I hope Showtime will support *.dat files in the future

.dat uses mpeg-2 doesnt it? Showtime supports mpeg-2... have you tired renaming it to an mpeg incase it can be played but simply doesn't handle the extension .dat ?

I guess you're right. I never tried renaming it...
I should test it, maybe it works. Even if it does work the problem is you can't rename files on a cd or dvd; You have to move them to hdd first which is annoying. So supporting dat files directly would be a cool feature.

Ah I get you now. Hope it works for you, but more I hope .dat gets direct support from the Andoma.

.dat support? WTF is .dat? I only know it as a generic extention which can be anything..

damn, i responded but i think i switched tabs and accidentally closed this one before clicking post.
anyways, to sum up, i remember vcd and i remember it not being that great, kinda like laserdisc. what i'm getting at is, you didn't think of renaming files, so maybe he's not heard of dat video files. i think i sound like a jerk but i don't mean it, i just had a decent response that got deleted.
i always wanted rmvb properly supported and i got lucky and it just happened. i posted it every now and then on here that i love showtime and want rmvb; i'm not sure if the creator saw that but it happened.
how showtime works, i know it'll happen for you. i probably waited and updated every chance i got for about a year and it happened. on earlier versions, it would play the video, just very slowly. i was stubborn and didn't want to change file types because i have hundreds of videos in rmvb format and just figured i could wait and i was right.

But as I said, .dat is not an official videofile extention, it can be anything.. I can't remember the one vcd that I have to have an extention .dat, but it's been a long time since I've looked at that one..
But It would be great ofcourse if it would also detect the fileformat of files which have a different extention, so you won't need to rename it yourself..

yep showtime is really progressing nicely. last time i used a release was almost a year ago with a dual audio mkv and it didnt play a/v in sync. but know it runs them perfect, even the skippin forward doesnt mess it up. very great app

darn been following this app for awhile but sadly this broke 1080p mkv streaming playback via media tomb for some titles i am going to have to roll back..in some cases certain files which played fine before now kick back to xmb in others i freeze on a black screen I am still on 3.41 (yes i know I am sticking to my guns I play latest releases on 360 to be honest...) perhaps that is why?
I have rolled back to showtime-3.6.1-gb5a6dfb and the titles play fine (which means my media tomb server is fine/my ps3 so it's the showtime update...)
I don't want to sound ungrateful (this app has literally changed my life!) but I do look forward to new releases...I'd be happy to run any tests right now my setup is within multiman I have this 3.99 version and from the xmb I have 3.6.1 installed...

i tried this version of showtime with the file: "Game.of.Thrones.S02E06.1080i.HDTV.DD5.1.MPEG2-Fizo"
what it do is just getting a black screen then of course XMB..
you said something about renaming it? an example would be appreciated.

The only version that appears is "showtime-2.99.534.gf7419".
Does anyone know why?
