• many of you who are familiar with PS3 Media Server(PMS), will have heard of the developer SubJunk was a major contributor in the PMS circle, he even had his own build version, well it seems he has taken that build version of PMS and created his own seperate, but identical application, which he calls Universal Media Server or UMS, here is some information regarding this application:

Universal Media Server is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server.
It is based on PS3 Media Server by shagrath. It is actually an evolution of the “SubJunk Build” of PS3MS.
UMS was started by SubJunk, an official developer of PS3MS, in order to ensure greater stability and file-compatibility.
Because it is written in Java, Universal Media Server supports all major operating systems, with versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
The program streams or transcodes many different media formats with little or no configuration.
It is powered by MEncoder, FFmpeg, tsMuxeR and AviSynth, which combine to offer support for a wide range of media formats.

Here is a list of devices that it works with:

    • Sony PlayStation 3
    • Microsoft Xbox 360

Thanks for the heads up on this! PMS has been giving me a few issues lately and I've been using old builds. Maybe UMS will rejoice where PMS has sinned.

Has anyone tried this out on their ps3? Just wondering if it is better then PMS and what differences there are.

Seems Fine here... I uninstalled PS3MS and Installed this..
It prompted me to install AviSynth 2.6 MT And Set a Memory Limit..

Seems to work Fine.. Also Running as a Windows Service on Windows 7.
PMSMS sometimes crashed if it was running so Hopefully this version is more Stable.

Been using the Subjunk build for ages and never had any problems.. It's Mencoder is much better as the PMS version.. But then again, I don't think you'll really notice any differences with it if you don't have any problems with PMS..
