the only way to mod is to a)savedata mod, b)have 2 ps3 and do data transfer utility and transfer mods from a cfw cex ps3 to a ofw cex ps3 this is a dex ps3 thread and dex don't mix with cex and psn online, get your fact straight before you come crying like a little baby and get the heck out of this thread!

Has anyone tested this file? I was about to download said file, but it had an ".exe" extension. I would like to test this out, but I'll be damned if I download a virus. Itskamel, if you did not mean to have that as an ".exe", please re-upload the file.

i dunno whats u downloading but its not a exe . ive dl this and it was a pup file on its own not in a folder or rar. u sure u clicked the right link on the website

u click on the bit that says "Click here to start download from sendspace" the other stuff are ads which i recon u clicked on

For the 3.55, no can not play anything higher than required for 3.55 CEX.

Yes, you can update to 4.11 DEX (or 4.20 DEX though I would wait til someone tests the 4.20 DEX) and play higher games

Yes, you are able to downgrade your 4.11 DEX system to 3.55 DEX once again with the 3.55 DEX Downgrade file.

The reason we say things like this are noobish questions is because they have already been answered, you just have to read through the articles (not comments such as these) to get these answers, TheFrenchy.

The reason you should downgrade to 3.55 DEX on occasion is because 3.56+ DEX firmwares do not have the "Install Packages" option.

Currently, you are not able to go back to retail, but there are ways being explored. Besides, there is hardly anything that CFW CEX firmware can offer that DEX now can not. We have many CFW of DEX firmwares that do almost exactly what retail CEX systems do now.

That is correct.

Peek and poke is required for backup managers (homebrew), but the method for running back ups on DEX doesnt use peek/poke or require a traditional backup manager. It uses PS3gen. Google it

or read the thread about "how to play 3.56+ backups on DEX"

No wonder, Yes only if you had a CFW CEX 3.55 system with lv2 peek and poke.

The problem is now with the higher firmwares, there are NO CFW so far...
So in order to play games higher than 3.55 either one or two things must be done.

#1. You must have a disc version of the game (not sure if it MUST be an actual PS3 disc or if it can be burned, don't have a burner for blu-ray discs.)

#2. In order to play from an external hard drive you have to use the BD emulator found in the debug settings, problem is (as I have yet to test this though) you have to have a hard drive dedicated to using on the PS3 because the BD emu will fully format the hard drive and also you must use new updates and modify them in order to use on the Hard drive.

there is a nice tutorial made by an anonymous source.
Fully copied, I did NOT write this tut, was copied from a thread here on PS3HAX.net

An anonymous source sent a method to running 3.6+ backups on a Dex machine

You will need these files.

ps3gen.zip
psn_package_npdrm.rar
PS3 Game Updater 1.41.rar
PkgView_1.3.rar

Preparing the usb hdd:

0. Connect an external usb disc
1. Go to debug settings on your dex
2. BD Access select "BD Emulator (USB)"
3. transfer rate option select "HDD Native"
4. "Format BD Emulator HDD"

Preparing the update:

1. First use PS3 Game Updater to get the newest Update pkg for the game
2. Then fire up Pkg View and extract the BCUS98295 dir into any dir -lets just call it targetdir.
3. Extract psn_package_npdrm.exe into this dir
4. Create a .txt into this dir and fill it with:

Content-ID = EP0001-BCUS98295_00-0000111122223333
K_licensee = 0x00000000000000000000000000000000
DRM_Type = Free
Content_Type = GameData
PackageType = DiscGamePatch
PackageVersion = 01.21

Rename the .txt file "package.conf".
Where BCUS98295 is the Title ID of your game and Packageversion has to be the Number of the Patch you downloaded

5. run it via cmd with psn_package_npdrm.exe package.conf BCUS98295
-> this will create a new update pkg for your game -> put on usb stick an install on DEX 3.55 ( don't know if you can also install it later )

Preparing the BD Emu Disc:

0. connect external usb with your pc
1. Fire up psgen.exe
2. fill in the title id: bcus.. put disc version to 00.00, copyright holder = sce, producer name = sce, tick trophy, click setup game
3. file -> import -> load up the param.sfo, click tab content information files and drag and drop the files from ps_game without the directories -&gt
; remove files that get a grey background -> click ok
4. click tab directory and file the structure with your backed up files
5. click build
6. click for bd emulator hdd tab and select the partition u want to use

I made a modified dex pup with custom font,theme,boot logo,built-in xmbn+ v1.00 renamed some xmb settings eg. added homebrew category....lots more stuff all done manually and it works great!!!...also with p&p and can install both retail and debug pkgs!!!

also i realised that when u removed certain xmd icon the ps3 gets faster and smooth.One more thing its also reactpsn enabled.

firstly no one can mod games online with this as the 3.55+ does not have that ability yet if at all again.

second DEX firmware does not allow online at all!

third the only way people mod online games is if they have 2 ps3 to data transfer from the 3.55 with the mods to the OFW.

do you do any research before typing **** that really does not apply to anything relevant?

If you want to not play with modders fine be my guest but good look trying to find that these days people like mods ok so there not for everyone but there there and there is nothing you an do about it apart from enjoy it.

I hope that even you can understand this but once something has started you cannot stop it easily like the say once the genies out the bottle good luck putting it back in.

I trust your firmwares and atm devwiki is down so we cant download any firmwares to try this out. I am downloading hermes 3.41 with v4 payload as we speak from a weird source, but I cant remember if it required a dongle or what

just get the 3.41 ofw from ps3hax and use mfw builder to patch it..
you must qa-flag your 3.55 and then no prob to downgrade the normal way with the recovery mode...

have done it and i have my root key... tomorrow i will fininsh with my DEX

On DEX even developers can't access to some isolated and secured area. So basically it's still a sandox. It's not even allow to get core dump when launching signed eboots, so no decrypted stuff can be dumped.

Hmm. I've read a bunch of guides, deciphered a lot of information, but the picture I've drawn hasn't yet convinced me of a reason to go from CEX to DEX. I'm not a dev, just an average user who loves his emulators and Linux (and a few backups that I admittedly pirated because why would I ever pay $$$ for games like FOTNS: Ken's Rage) but at times I do admittedly miss a few things that I doubt I'll see anytime soon on my PS3, such as:

1. Well, I hate PSN but I love Rock Band DLC. That's gone, along with all the DLC I'd ever want for any of my other games.

2. A giant userbase full of COD players that I could challenge at any time. That, and Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, are the only games I ever played online.

3. The ability to play certain newer games without having to purchase another PS3. (Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, Rage, etc.)

Now, I can't whine and beg "The Devs" for these things, because some of them lie on the road of piracy and illegality. I can't even say I'm incredibly disappointed with the progress of the scene as of late, because I can't really say I see any room (or possibility) for improvement without the dumping of LV0, nor do I know of anyone willing to try.

itskamel, I appreciate your contributions to the community. Regarding your latest efforts with this PUP, I've seen some of the significant advantages a DEX PS3 can bring me, but in all honesty, do you think it's worth it to make the change for the average individual? Is our ability to access PSN (even in times when they find a temporary 2 week workaround) permanently disabled? And since, at current, there is no way to return to CEX, can you elaborate on why that is, or link me to an article that does?

Hey Itskamel awesome work with this pup I was just wondering if there is any way to get blu ray movies to function under the dex firmware. If i put a game in the system reads it asap if i put a movie in I can only see it under multiman and it will not play. Ok so heres another "so i can" question. But here it gooes anyway.

So im on kmeaw 3.55. If i convert to dex 3.55 my backups will work the same with multiman dex version right?

And then i can switch back and forth from 4.11 dex with no backups (for now)but i can run retail discs like normal. and back to 3.55 dex to run my old backups and homebrew?

And the reason to do this is cause its easy to go back and forth and you dont need a hardware flasher?

I think i got it. Please correct me though

yes you can go back and fourth with firmwares, when you go up to get back down you will have to use a downgrader pup it can be found on the wiki.

yup looks like it..asking cfwprophet didn't work , it creates a elf file, there must be the important info hidden for game to work...played arround with it..first it worked but now when it was needed, it dumped nothing so this area is unclear to me

We found a way to restore Backup Utility in DEX:
