In june we saw the first leaked images of this new 4k series of PS3′S now according to some sources Sony will not announce it on gamescon = Agusts 14.
Speculation around this whole new series keeps feeding the news site. Hence this is a *prior* step to the announcement of the PS4 (so they said) Something cheap to entertain a few while most of us still waiting for an official release date of *ORBIS*.
They say that 16GB SKU is indeed REAL not a rumour but the problem or how to say it..the rumour involves that the console is based on FLASH memory.
Article keeps feeding us with some more details and some info that was posted on June as well = the 16Gb PS3-4000 will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage.
I can only think in a mediocre product being delivered, but it’s what i think about this. I don’t see anything innovative about this, maybe in terms of security can be the final showdown against the dongles. And above all for a *cheap* price
PS3-4000 skips gamescom, 16Gb Flash SKU goes cheap
A VG247 source has claimed that Sony will not announce PS3-4000 at its gamescom press conference on August 14.
PS3-4000, the latest, slimmest version of Sony’s current console, will not be announced at the main Sony gamescom press conference on August 14, VG247 has been told.
A gamescom reveal had been planned, but stock levels of the current build are said to be too high for Sony to move onto what is probably the last take on PS3 before PlayStation 4 is announced next year.
In addition, a source today said that the rumoured 16Gb version of PS3-4000 is in fact real, and is based on Flash memory. There was some confusion surrounding the figure, which originated from Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications, with many assuming it was intended to read 160Gb.
The new model will stack up against Microsoft’s 4Gb Flash-based Xbox 360. As the 16Gb PS3-4000 will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage, we’ve been told today that the announcement “may” be accompanied by a huge price cut, with the entry version potentially dropping as low as £99.
We’ve since been told, however, that there are no plans for a £99 PS3.
In addition to the 16Gb version, 250GB and 500GB options have been rumoured.

Sony will more then likely release a scaled down version of the PS3 as they have for the entire history of the Playstation series of gaming consoles. Is this it? I dunno, but removing the mechanical drive and using newer tech would lead to a lower price for consumers.
I might add that the PS2 is still selling well especially for people that have a limited income which in the USA is around 15% of the population, but I'd include more then that figure due to more external factors not included in the official USA's poverty level.

I blame the bad situation with world economy.
Just saying, this is pure BS. I will not buy something like these...but maybe has something *new* to show us.

Honestly, I'd spend 99 (about $150 US) just for a PSN companion to my DEX machine, to bad it's only a rumor. I hope DEX never has a PSN exploit. Even if DEX didn't allow backups, the fact that we can now play retail 3.56+ games and retain 3.55 backup capabilities is a major breakthrough.

this reminds me of the psp cheap edition with one speaker, im still confused whenever or not it has a hard drive ?, it has 16gb flash which makes me wonder the cost to produce flash, but theres 250 and 500gb so it would have a hdd.best not too think too hard with these rumors.
look ugly too, like a fat ps3 crushed

I dunno... I'm sure it will still have a hard drive dock. If thats the case I don't see any reason to NOT own one.

Please, I implore you, explain to me what this new SKU has to do with dongles? (This isn't the first time I have seen you post "dongle showdown" when the article contents do not have anything to do with dongles).
From what I already know:
SONY has made it next to impossible to use jigs (the original JB dongles) and DRM dongles are meaningless on OFW past 3.55.
So WHY IN THE HELL does the title say "dongle showdown?" Why would Sony be fighting something they won with the 3.60 updates?
All this thing is is a face-lifted PS3. Perhaps Sony put in some more fortifications against hacking into the hardware, but other than that, it is the same 'ol same 'ol.

If in series 3000 they managed to render useless hardware flashers, in series 4k they will render useless the system and probably open *serious* doors to the one who want to explore this *new* system a little further (knowing how sony works).
So probably according to 2 Anon sources, the SKU along with another security measures will allow some kind of downgrade (rumour) on this 4K ones.
Hence the product it's not top tech and neither top quality.
Maybe it's the last resource for the DRM dongles (or the ones actually trying to do some profit with them) they will expect the release of this 4K.
For reasons that i don't know.
It's all i can say.
I know since 3.6x they lost the battle, but they managed to poison us almost a year or more.
Maybe..(speculation/rumour) this is the last resource. Until ORBIS is announced the last scream for profit from sony side as well from DRM dongle creators.
And yes it's the same ol' story just a poor intent to squeeze some more dollars from a mediocre product.

That said though, knowing how Sony reacts to hacks, I doubt they will lay back and watch it get hacked. Keep in mind that it is virtually impossible to downgrade past factory installed firmware.
Either way, no matter if Sony slacks off with the hardware, there is virtually nothing dongles will be able to do.

Cheesethief They let the dogs *out* already, i doubt they will stay still on this one.
The method helped so much the end user, allowing to do with certain limits the hell what he/she wants with the product they bought.
So in terms of TOS, and among other legal paraphernalia they have all the winning cards so far.
I hope many of the *converted* ones are aware that this won't last forever. (Not to sound like total d0uche) but it's true.
$ony being too silent for so many time (i don't buy this charade). For me it's a bad omen.
And all of the *SINS* using $ony bible, converting a retail unit to a debug one with method used by them and gets filtered. I think it's the worst one you can commit to get *big daddy* angry.
Some heads will roll, im sure.

Until dongles can work on 4.xx+ this console will be bullet proof, f*ck you Trueblue! hahah!

If models that come with firmware above 3.60 cannot be downgraded to 3.55, how do you expect a 4K model which will come with a stock firmware of above 4.10, to be downgraded.

16gb is completly useless most games require a mandatory game install that will be sucked away in no time, yes microsoft can get away with 4gb because thier games don't require game installs and game disc capacity is max dual layer, but sony trying to think they can release a 16gb is beyond poposterous.
Stupid stupid sony, they released a 20gb ps3 before and what happned to that?

Sony being too silent is because they don't have that lame Hirai on the CEO's chair anymore, giving orders to pursuit the sceners.
In fact, Sony is trying to recover from the losses of the TV's, the Smartphones and other consumer devices. The Playstation is not important for Sony at the moment.

sony is doing this becuz, with the psp being nearly 100% hacked on every version b4 the vita it brought in good profits because ppl were buying them just to hack them well after sony thought the psp would die out.so imagine how many ppl wnna bust open a ps3?the 4k series is just the basics of a ps3 wrapped in a small package.not made to look flashy or anything its just the bare minimum so if u can hack it u can most likely hack the others, and what i personally believe sony is doing is tryna recreate the psp scenario all over again
