• PS3 Hacks, Wii U , 21.11.2012

Well the Wii U has been out for a few days and we have already seen some interesting developments regarding the console, the console has sold out in many places and seems to be quite popular.

But it seems that not everyone is a fan of the new console, take Oles Shishkovtsov developer of Metro: Last Light for example, who says the game will not appear on the Wii U, here is a quote from NowGamer:

One of these titles will be 4 A Games’ Metro: Last Light. Chief technical officer, Oles Shishkovtsov, explains why Metro’s sequel won’t be appearing.

“[The] Wii U has a horrible, slow CPU,” said Shishkovtsov to NowGamer.

Even his colleage, Huw Beynon, confirmed there would not be a Wii U version of Metro: Last Light, and couldn’t justify the effort required to bring a comparable version to the Wii U.

“We had an early look at it, we thought we could probably do it, but in terms of the impact we would make on the overall quality of the game – potentially to its detriment – we just figured it wasn’t worth pursuing at this time. It’s something we might return to. I really couldn’t make any promises, though.”

    Source

Gustav Halling Lead Designer had this to say:

“I don’t actually know what makes it slow, but enough “tech” people I trust in world are saying the same things.”

“GPU and ram is nice to have shaders/textures loaded. Physics and gameplay run on CPU mostly so player count is affected etc.”

    Source

so in other words "we could do it, but that would mean actually coding specifically for the wii-u and not just porting it so its too much hassle"

Just because the wii U didn't make the mistake of the 360 and ps3 of using overkill cpu's doesn't mean wii u has done it badly, in general gpu and ram are what's needed, not a beefier cpu.

Well I'm getting ready to fire mine up now... hope ZombiU is actually to my liking since I went with the cheaper option over the $350 with that **** game Nintendo Land.

Can't wait until the A+ title "The Homebrew Channel" comes out :D

Thats what I took from it... I played Metro and though it did look pretty good the specs for the game were kind of overkill for it. There are always ways around hardware restrictions, you always hear of games within the first year of a console release "stressing the console to its limits" but then then at the end of the console life every game that comes out looks 10x better. I'm not too worried, though I do think the fact that the pro controller not having a mic/headset port and the triggers not being analog is pretty dog **** on Nintendo's part. I'll whine, ***** and moan but I will end up with all 3 of the new consoles.

I plan to get a Wii-U eventually, I like Nintendo games.

It is a shame though that they didn't put a better CPU in, how will it compete against the 'true next gen' if it can't even run some of the games for this gen? For Nintendo to be top dog this time round they need to run the same games as the others, they need the catalogue that makes people think "I don't need a PS4/Xbox 720" not "I'll get a Wii-U as well".

You are omitting a detail: They could do it from scratch, but then it would end up being a different game, as the console is underpowered for what they have planned.

      RE: The article
How is this surprising, though? This was to be expected. Nintendo take last generation's hardware, slap a gimmick on it, and sell the same games they have been making for the last 20 years. Those, and of course casual shovelware, with the rare gem here and there.

I grew up with a NES and the Gameboy, then went on to the SNES and the N64. Even had a gamecube. But recently I have come to dislike the company. If for nothing else, then for their constant regurgitating.

It's not under-powered, it has a GPGPU architecture to offload CPU calculation to the GPU and it seems the Metro Devs have been trying to run everything like they would on an Xbox 360 not taking into consideration how different the WiiU's internals work.

First of all I don't understand why anyone would be under the impression that Nintendo released a powerful console. As long as I've been gaming they've ALWAYS been underpowered. Just because the WiiU released 7 years after the 360 doesn't mean the games will be better. Look at the Wii, released 5 years after the Xbox and there's not a single Wii game to rival DOA3's graphics, Halo's huge maps, or Otogi's completely destructible levels.

Nes was more powerful then the Master System
Snes was more powerful then the Megadrive
N64 was more powerful then the Playstation
Gamecube was more powerful then the PS2 (it was actually slightly more powerful then the xbox, but only just)

You clearly haven't been gaming very long.

For me it'll be like it was this gen.
I'll end up with all the consoles, then they'll gather dust because I do most of my gaming on PC

Nor Me, off course that won't come as a surpriise to some people on here. End of the day it's my choice. I choose too only have one console this gen with a PC, same will be next gen, plan on getting nex PLAYSTATION.

You realize that a good CPU is what a lot of developers NEED to bring you 'Fun and Good' games?

If GTA V is not on the Wii U , I rest my case. Then again, who cares if it isn't on the Wii U, you still have Mario to play, right?

why is the cpu weak? it doesnt have to be more powerfull as it is because the wii u has a gpgpu which is doing jobs, what normaly the cpu would do.

ps4 and xbox 720 wont be as much better as the current consoles. sony stated that aswell. even if they will. go and pay a computer price for a console! dont forget that the wii u costs 299$ on launchdate!! ps3 launched for 600$.

nintendo could also fill that console with monster hardware but it would cost much much more and would many people buy it still ? Nintendo is also a traditional family console. most people cant pay 600$ for a gaming console. many guys are still struggling to pay 299$. and the hardware of the wii u IS POWERFULL ! dont compare game graphics on launch day! ps3 and xbox360 hadnt that graphic on the current games at the launch date. plus the current games are just ported to the wii u! they doesnt take the full power of the wii u. The Wii U uses all the same features of DirectX11 in OpenGL. It supports Compute Shading and Tessellation. Thats a great thing!

and what do people expect from 8gb hdd !!! it is not there to fill it with games ! game sizes are too big for that! it is there to install updates and game saves! it isnt randomly named as 'basic' !

it is good because people can choose for themselves if they want a 500gb or 2 tb external hdd to fill it with their stuff. they pay the minimum prize for themselves. USB 2.0 is definitly good enough! why pay more for a usb 3.0 if it isnt relatively much effective for that more price?

why people cry that there is a update for the wii u? s0ny released updates every two weeks.

im very sure that the 'long loading time' in the settings will go away after some time with another update. what is the problem? on of the latest ps3 updates bricked some ps3's. and now?

i own a ps3 system. but i dont play much on it because there arent many games that really makes fun!

on the wii u you got the classic nintendo games plus you got the good 3rd party games like batman... in one console! its a great thing. you dont have to buy multiple consoles.

i could go on with this writing but i stop now.

WII U IS REALLY A GREAT CONSOLE ! THIS SOURCE IS CORRUPTED.
I also heard that this guy who stated that cpu thing doesnt have much money anymore. they are going to break. do a research. so they arent able to work on the wii u because their team and budget is limited.
thats why he wants to safe his ass with such statements.

thats so funny how this article tries to put nintendo into a bad light. but with so weak arguments.

i guess they got paid like many other sources.

damn you got mario bros, mario kart , smash bros and many other nintendo classics on that console and on a great graphic. PLUS you can play your bo2 and batman and other 3rd party games on that console! for a launchprice of 299$! what do you want more? why are people comparing the wii u with consoles that arent released yet and which costs probably the twice price !!!

Nes was nowhere as powerful as the master system. The colour and sound from the master system were far more advanced.

And no, gamecube was not more powerful than the original xbox. The original xbox was most definately more powerful. Yes the cube was more powerful than PS2 though.

Simple googling can help back these facts up And I'm kindof a huge Nintendo nerd.

Let's see... On one side, the Wii U side, the Nintendo side... We have the inferior version of console multiplatform games, a very lackluster online service, an iPad-like tablet-shaped controller that nobody asked for, third parties don't give a damn about the thing, and a ton of Mario games I just don't give a good God damn about. What more do I want? What do I even have?

Looking forward to playing Bayonetta 2, Zelda, Xenoblade, Last Story, etc in Wii U... ya many better developers than Metro guys will make games for the Wii U. I started playing Metro then played another better game.

how can you report about a lackluster online service in the early days after release? there are the normal wii controller and the pro controller beside the touchpadcontroller. i saw many people saying the same that they think that the padcontroller is a bad thing. after they played on it, they changed their mind. see that padcontroller as a bonus thing!

How the hell did you already know what my post was going to be about before you read it? How are you going to make it seem like I'm the ignorant one when you admitted in the first sentence of your post that YOU are ignorant, yourself! User, please!

No, I don't own a Wii U and never will. Everything I know about it is based on information given to me by other reputable sources.

Their online service has always sucked. If I was a Wii U owner of rather just not have one if it was going to be that bad.

I do not care at all if you have "seen" people change their minds after using the Wii U tablet. What the HELL does that have to do with anything I said about it. Nobody asked for it. Period.

Who cares if I hate Nintendo? What does that have to do with any of the points I made? Stop side-stepping.

I'm not against "PS3 hacks." I just don't care about PS3 hacking. It could exist or not. I just don't care about it anymore. Again, what did that have to do with ANY DAMN THING?

HOW can be the ps3 better? in which points?
damn, why dont you just say the truth.
technically, the wii u is stronger as the ps3.

even if the wii u has the same strength like the ps3, i still would prefer the wii u because it would be like a ps3 with a build in nintendo. you can play games on it for both platforms.

can you tell me concrete things, that arent good in the wii u?
not your personal oppinion about the design or the pad.

      tell me facts

and the ps3 isnt so much cheaper as the wii u.

even if they will support or not.
even if they will rush and just port the games to the wii u.
for me, its a great console. nintendo will stay long on the wii u and will make much of their classic games for it. it will probably come some mario bros., some mario party's , maybe more than one mario kart and so on. i dont think they just leave it on the new super mario word u. i think they will continue a series. and all that on a good graphic ! thats soo cool. thats a unique experience that you dont get on playstation or xbox.

of course i think the 3rd party devs probably will support the wii u.
i dont think that if they make games for the ps4 and xbox720, that there will be a problem to port their games to the wii u. they want to make the biggest profit they can. the more consoles support their games, the more money they will make.
man you still got fifa13 for the ps2 and wii.

for greedy europe guys. buy your wii u from france (amazon). the basic costs there 269eur and the deluxe 315eur. i think the shipping isnt to much aswell.

who asked for the new controller?
who asked for the last controller?
who asked for the kinect controller?
who asked for the psmove controller?
who asked for bluray in ps3?
who asked for extra cheese on their whopper? (that would be me)

      see where im going here?

its not about "what the customers ASK for" because it simply does not work that way. its about what the manufacturer MAKES. the choice is then on the customer to buy or not to buy

nintendo do things differently and that leads to their success. they have proven without a doubt that power does not sell a console alone. as for the question regarding the controller. maybe the people with ds/3ds appreciate it as the ds was very successful due to its dualscreen combo and can now use a home console in the same way

they dare to be different and it works well for them.

f*ck going mainstream. who wants 3 consoles so similar that they play exactly the same games in exactly the same way with exactly the same controllers?

xbox and playstation are too similar for me (graphics and control wise) to differentiate between, and the pc is just better graphics but less fun for me. pc gaming seems formal as opposed to console gaming being relaxed

if you dont like first party titles, it doesnt mean their console sucks, it just means that you fail to appreciate it. many things in life are like this.

e.g. football to me, is a waste of space / money and it seems like the gayest sport to ever have infested our culture but mny people love it and it is huge worldwide. i cant deny it and the problem lies with me, not the game.

you dont like wii-u, thats your fault, not theirs. they ,made a product that you didnt like so dont buy it. no point crying over it as if they personally insulted you........ just ignore it and move on lol

I personaly own a wii U and enjoy playing it Graphic hounds erk me just because its not top notch doesn't make it a bad system or bad game all games dont have to be the same theres enough love to go around for all typs of games that being said ZombiU while not as polished as most wanted it to be was a great game i enjoyed the hell out of it best survival horror i played in a while and Black Ops 2 runs quiet nicely on the wii U also and as far as Metro sounds more like they can't afford to do it. Not sure ill stake any claim personaly in a company thats a few days from going belly up key word there being no Wii U Metro right now this tells me make the dummy games you know how to code already hape they sell a few copies use the money to add some fancy wii U controller goodies in the game release it later and act like its the best thing ever wii u is great so will the ps4 and the 720 every system is amazing and supirior to each other in its own way and all 3 will have games that can't be played on the others that you wish you could put your dirty litle hands on

well 1 night a week at the arcades for the family = ~60 so if i get 5 weeks worth of enjoyment out of a wii-u its money well spent for me

      see where im going here?

its not about "what the customers ASK for" because it simply does not work that way. its about what the manufacturer MAKES. the choice is then on the customer to buy or not to buy

nintendo do things differently and that leads to their success. they have proven without a doubt that power does not sell a console alone. as for the question regarding the controller. maybe the people with ds/3ds appreciate it as the ds was very successful due to its dualscreen combo and can now use a home console in the same way

they dare to be different and it works well for them.

You clearly haven't been gaming very long.

For me it'll be like it was this gen.
I'll end up with all the consoles, then they'll gather dust because I do most of my gaming on PC
Sir, are you saying those consoles are more powerful after those you referred (SNES was more powerful after/then Mega Drive)?

There is a difference between 'then' and 'than', which, is obvious.
