How Long Does It Take To Download a System Update?
    Answer:

The length of time it takes to perform a system update varies depending on the speed of the Internet connection used. Please be patient.
Due to the amount of new features and applications included, the system update may take an extended amount of time when performed during the initial setup (for some users it could take an hour or more to download and install). Do not power off your system during this time.

Nintendo say in the article that "IMPORTANT: After the Wii U system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable. Content deriving from the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system may be removed. Failure to accept the update may render games unplayable.

So what they have added drm malware like TB did, use anything we dont like and we'll **** up your system!

Looks like Nintendo are learning from $ony. TBH I think I wont be buying any new consoles in the future, just stick to my PC.

That same warning was on every original wii firmware update, and never once did Nintendo put out a firmware that did anything that rendered the wii useless. Its the normal Nintendo firmware update jargon.

NO! the update is around 1GB in size and not more. It takes about 10mins give or take to install (from NeoGAF forums).

That 5GB rumour started from a tweet from some guy at GameTrailers.com lol.

It writes files directly to the OS section so even the 8GB (some reserved for OS and rest for save data etc) basic console is fine for getting it.

There will be an option to update via other media but Nintendo hasn't made an official statement regarding it.

A tip: Wii U supports the old Wii USB LAN adaptors (even 3rd party), so if you have one of those around, it's recommended to use it since Wii U causes problems over wifi for some users. Also downloading the update should be faster over wired LAN compared to wifi.
