Two fun bits of Wii U News, the first one i thought would happen but wasn’t sure.
D0RK50UL posted this video on IRC, its shows Wii Homebrew running on the Wii U, via the Wii Channel, im guessing much like PSP Homebrew runs on the PS Vita:
Source PS3HaX IRC
The other news is that a member of NeoGaf found a secret dev menu, when messing around with Miiverse, here sis a quote from the source:
Well, I was messing around in Miiverse trying to find out how the hell to do the initial set-up of my friends list to no avail. In doing so I accidentally found the “debug” menu on Miiverse. At first I thought, “Hey, neat!” thinking it was just a legit secret or something. I can even access something with the name “prototype” that seems to be the actual prototype Miiverse in Japanese. Apparently John Lennon is still alive and is posting on the Japanese Miiverse. Most buttons that I tried don’t work (Acid_Test?) so I thought, hay, maybe GAF could have fun with this or translate it. That is when I found the admin list.

I think I either hacked the Wii U Miiverse or I am stupid.

Nintendo never invested $$$ for console security.
I bet Wii U will be "cracked" in month.

hhhhh , it's like they knew it's worthless to invest in security
wii was so weak in security but still the best selling console in it's generation
maybe hacking make the console appeal for many people who don't wanna pay for games!!

All manufactures of consoles must include enough security to inspire confidence in developers to invest time and money to make games
Let's say you own activision and develop call of duty do you
A. Make the game for Xbox and ps3 with good security and guarantee an income
Or
B. make it for a console with no security and nobody except the honest folk are going to pay

C. Make it for the console with the biggest marketshare, and accept the 1% to 2% that will be pirated as a loss. Not that most of the pirates would have bought the games anyway. So.. no real loss.
Your logic sucks.

You all stupid. They do make a console with zero security, the pc. Consoles actually have to be modded by the person to remove the security.

Nintendo gave up on security on the Wii after 4.3 update (June 2010).
I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii channel, which is used to access the wii side of BC/Wii ware, will have added protection.
But once thats cracked, wii homebrew at very least will be prevalent again.

Got to love Nintendo. I would gladly pay a fools ransom for Zelda and Samus any day. I can remember having to replace the battery in NES Cartridge of Zelda several times for myself and others. Personally I have never "hacked" any Nintendo product unless you count using Game Genie.

I used to work for activision yo are all ****ends if you think they will make games for a flawed console and just give money Ava's for nothing
And as for pc there is security just because it's easy to hack doesn't mean there is zero security am off this site there's too many dicks with no thinking part of the brain shame for all the good modders on her

Just because of one or two people say something silly does NOT reflect the entire forum site beyond this frontpage news.
Is it me, or am I the only one who is tired of know-it-alls coming up here and assuming all users here are old dumb male users with a penis for a brain and can't work a computer correctly unless it has boobs or an opening for us to benefit from.
Please just stay the hell away if you are such a sexist, we don't need anyone else telling us how we should and should not think according to paid software developers.

And remember, the best console in history, the PS2, is still being produced because of the mass piracy, homebrew, hacks, game catalog, whatever. The PS2 was hacked I think, at half of it's lifetime and yet, game studios never stoped making games for it. Actually, they had made the most awesome titles ever.
The PC has zero security. You can install any compiler for x86 that you could think of, make your own code, run it, and exploit whatever you think of. It's up to you, your imagination, your knowledge and your skills. You put some DRM in some piece of code?, very well, someone with some Disassembler and Hex will crack it to the bones.

No it doesn't, it was a key press for a hidden menu. Ninty dd a fix within mins to stop it showing. Thats not a hack.

I'm not surprised at all this happened so quickly. Nintendo sandboxed the Wii functionality for a reason

Nintendo has commented on this. He accessed Nintendo's "mock up" menu for the Miiverse. If you recall from before there was a Yoshi symbol on the main Miiverse hub when Nintendo originally showed it off. According to Nintendo it was only there for mock up purposes.
“It has come to our attention that some people were able to access a mock up menu on Miiverse following the launch of Wii U in the US. Please note that this was only a mock up menu and has now been removed and is not accessible.”

Wow! That vid was awesomesauce!
I was just asking the g/f this morning if she wanted to get one too...
My wii has been hacked to hell and back for almost 2 years now and now that my cat chewed through my sensor bar I'm suddenly motivated to accelerate my plan to purchase a Wii U.
This video just added nitrous to it.
I wonder how long it'll be before we see cfg USB loader on the Wii U (for wii games) as I'm not quite ready to give up my wii library.

Wii U Launch: What Went Wrong?
Nintendo's Wii U has launched in the US, but the new console has a ton of issues that are only just coming to light. Is this Nintendo's worst launch yet?
Published on Nov 19, 2012
Wii U’s US launch has been and gone and with Nintendo’s new console nearing release in the UK (on the 30th Novmber), and eventually Japan (on the 8th December), there have been a number of worrying revelations coming to light from US gamers that puts the Wii U immediately on the back foot.
Nintendo has been rather coy when it comes to confirming just what’s housed within the Wii U and how it compares to the current consoles. With the Wii U finally in the hands of players details are emerging that Nintendo’s new console isn’t quite the powerhouse player’s were expecting.
Also, with reports emerging that many of the Wii U’s third party games suffer from numerous issues, that the hardware itself is shoddy and that it’s riddled with a number of substantial problems, we decided we should take a look at the Wii U’s biggest issues.
Is Nintendo’s launch of the Wii U the most lacklustre the game’s industry has seen? Here are a few reasons it might be...

I wonder if you can mount with Wii homebrew a Gamecube game like in a real Wii and what would happen. I'm pretty possitive it should work because If I'm not mistaken what they did is kiiinda simmilar to what early PS3 models did, they included a veeery cheap to manufacture combination of the Wii CPU and GPU unified in a chip which SHOULD give among with Wii backwards compatibility also Gamecube backwards compatibility. Nice, great work actualy! I guess I'm gonna get it when it gets a pricedrop but if they hack it in it's WiiU side too, next day I'm buying it despite any price.

EDIT: thinking about it we would need *.DVV files cracked to bypass verification of GC disc in the WiiU, unless the WiiU does read GC discs? Any one know?
Tueidj will come up with a clever solution no doubt, but it will require you to verify your own discs... perhaps via PC.

Even if in the early life of the WII U we see some lack of security
I suppose it brings eventually some folks to it that wouldn't think about it in the first place and anyway Nintendo would try to fix it in short term.
Main point is: You buy it, you own it, some clever guys shows the way to do whatever you want with, then enjoying retro gaming and all kind of homebrew is nice.
PS: please do not blame me, if my English is not up to the level...
