VGLeaks the website well known for releasing leaked information on games consoles, has released some interesting information on what appears to be an Xbox Mini, here is a quote from the source:

    Xbox Mini

The “Xbox Mini” is not a 360 add-on, it is a stand alone product that contains Xbox 360 functions for gaming, and alone it is meant to compete with Apple TV. Since it is likely it will not have a disc drive, it is being designed with “always online” in mind, and with internet being required for Live functions. Xbox 360 Games can be played on it by purchasing Games on Demand on Xbox Live (for new purchases) or if already purchased, simply download it. This also applies to music and movies. To further clarify, the Durango will also have these (TV) functions, just with next-genration gaming hardware instead of Xbox 360 at a higher price.

When used with Durango, it offers connectivity with it for backwards compatibility with both disc based and On Demand games, and it’s no more different than what Sony will be doing with Gaikai for playing PS3 games on PS4, only with Xbox it will be done locally and not through the cloud. You can control the Xbox Mini under a single interface and not have to worry about switching between devices in a single display input.

These connectivity functions cannot work with existing Xbox 360 units due to the difference in external interface. The Xbox Mini was designed for this along side Durango.

Interesting evolution on the 360 with no disc drive and always on... wonder how quickly it will be hacked and if it can be.

This is it. This is how they are going to creep "always online" and "online only" and no disc drive into the console market. Its exactly what microsoft and sony would do if they were going to do it...and here microsoft has done it. Dont invest too much, just release a always online version of the CURRENT console to keep costs and risk to a minimum. Then if/when its a success, introduce it in a future xbox/playstation. Profit

That's exactly what I was thinking, Sony has a patent for (at leat that I know) using a PS3-on-a-stick, so it might be possible we'll see something like that coming to the PS4, where you just buy the stick, plug it into your PS4, put the original PS3 disc in the PS4 and play the freaking game..
The PS4 itself is quite capable of running an excellent PS1 and PS2 emulator through software, but for a PS3 it's propably still too slow, so it'll need a real CELL at least..

They will likely remove every pinheader we've used to do RGH on this 'mini' as they already know there is no console we can't RGH now due to a special bootloader leaking a couple months ago, there is literally nothing MS can do on current consoles with software to stop RGH, only hardware. So this hardware will just be missing the required soldering points for RGH and solve the problem.

Not sure if many people know who ^^^^ he is but he knows his stuff when it comes to xbox. He has a few guides that I had to refer to when I pulled a pad or 2 off of my squirt glitch chip and it saved me from buying a new chip.

      Good to see you here

As he said I see many of the points being gone, and if this rumor of no disc drive is true that will also kill the drive flashing community. Personally I will stick to the dual nands I have and if Durango has no BC and I am forced to buy this well I will just keep my dual nand boxes around.

So far they have removed the hana, tried to hide post out..... at least we can give them an A for effort

Sony don't want us to download PS3 games on the PS4, they want to stream the games to us.

My very first console was a Magnavox Odyssey 3000. My second console was an Atari 2600. The third was Nintendo followed shortly thereafter by a Sega Master System as the fourth. I've bought virtually nearly every console to date since then with a few exceptions. And I won't be buying things like the 'Ouya' or gaming sticks.

I miss the days of just being able to pop a game into the system. No updates, No online, and No trophies. I feel bad for the generations of gamers who will never know what gaming without the extra headaches was like. I know those days are gone but announcements like this one makes this a sad day for old school gamers like myself.

The idea of having to stream games and having to be always online disgust me. I hate the politics and business side of gaming today. Gaming used to be about fun. Now it's about greed, quantity over quality, and ruthless business ethics.

I seldom find a use for online gaming. Just the other day I was in a BO2 lobby where a 42 year old man cried because a guy who didn't have a mic wouldn't leave the lobby. That reminds me of a particular friend I had when I was a kid who used to smash his controllers to pieces whenever you beat him at his own games. And this is what the industry is pushing us towards? No thank you.

Due to the politics and aggression directed from console devs and game devs towards their own fan base and each other, I've long speculated that the Wii U would be my last gaming console. Announcements like this seem to all but confirm that decision.

Let's not forget they're killing two birds with one stone by doing this. It's also a last ditch effort to boost console sales for the current platform. We've had three different models of PS3 so far and this will be the 3rd model of the 360. While the Wii had most of their success with just the one model before they started manufacturing the Wii mini. $ony also had two different models of the PS2 as well...three if you count the PSX. They're make smaller consoles that allows them to remove harder that restricts piracy and CFW while boosting console sales.
