• I posted this article regarding the Xbox 720 a little while ago, so i thought id post more rumours, here are some of them as carefully detailed by Gematsu:

• Announcement: Microsoft will announce the new Xbox on May 21.
• Full Details: Though it will be announced on May 21, Microsoft will fully detail the system, including launch lineup, at E3 in June.
• Developer Platform: Microsoft will discuss the Xbox developer platform at the Build conference in late June, “based on clues on the Build website.”
• Release Date: The next Xbox will launch in early November 2013.
• Windows 8: The next Xbox is based on the “Core” version of Windows 8, which, according to Thurrott, “suggests a common apps platform” or “one similar to Windows 8.”
• Price: The system will launch at two prices. The standalone model will cost $499. A $299 model, which requires a two-year Xbox LIVE Gold subscription plus an additional $10 a month, will also be released.
• Yuma: Microsoft originally planned to offer a full version and an “entertainment” version of the next Xbox code-named “Yuma,” but put those plans on hold.
• Blu-ray: The next Xbox wil use a Blu-ray disc reader.
• Always-On: The next Xbox “must be internet-connected to use.” According to Thurrott, “this is the source of the ‘always on’/’always online’ rumors and isn’t as Draconian as many seem to believe.”
• The next Xbox will “indeed have some form of an always-on requirement.” According to the site, this is both to support the non-gaming apps that will be launched with the console and as an “anti-piracy tool.” The console will support “digital rights management and anti-piracy checks using an internet connection.” Under Microsoft’s current guidelines, “the decision of whether a game will require an internet connection to work and if that is a one-time authentication or a constant connection, will be left up to individual publishers.”
• Xbox 360: A third Xbox 360 revision will be released this year at a “slightly less expensive” price than previous models. Code-named “Stingray,” Thurrott said it is “not clear if this device is required because the next Xbox isn’t backwards compatible, or because Microsoft simply wants a low-cost entertainment box alternative.”
• Video Sharing: Like PlayStation 4, the next Xbox will include the ability to capture and share video through networks like Ustream and Facebook. The system will capture your gameplay like a DVR, allowing you to go back and select highlights. This function can be turned on or off, or set up to auto-capture certain in-game events.
• Achievements: Publishers will be able to add more achievements after launch without the need to add download content. According to Polygon, “this is designed specifically to allow developers to tweak player behavior.” Achievements can also be tied to “broader events,” like a weekend challenge where a number of players contribute to a goal of 10,000 kills. Cross-platform achievements, like those earned by playing a game on the next Xbox and then using a companion app or website, are also being talked about.
• Xbox LIVE: Microsoft is looking for a way to better align Xbox LIVE with social networks like Facebook and Twitter. There won’t be a friends cap anymore. The friends system will now act more like Twitter, where people can choose to follow one another.

Not really feeling this always on crap. I feel bad for people in the boonies that have intermittent inet connections. And this $299 model that requires 2 years of xbl + an additional $10 a month crap, REALLY? So basically lets do the math.

$299 + 120 = 419, now lets say you have the 720 for seven or eight years that's an additional $120 a year x 7 which is 840. That's $1259 just for the system and the 2 years of xbl gold. Now factor in the additional $300 for the remaining 5 years of xbl.

Grand total: $1600 for the moneybox 720. Talk about a company that has lost its way.

I agree. Thats way to much of an upkeep for a gaming console. Their treating it like a phone plan. And all that $$$ isnt even including the over priced games that keep getting more expensive as the generations go up. I remember paying $30 for newly released ps1 games. I wouldnt be surprised if you couldn't even play games offline anymore. Im really starting to get tired of all the effort to kill piracy. They are just ruining the fun level of games for me. I loved the old days where all you had to worry about was if the disk was scratched and if you needed another memory card. In my opinion consoles will become too expensive for the average joe and people will move on to pc or mobile gaming( which I think has come a long way.)

The sad thing is it's proven that piracy is somewhat of a good thing. Contrary to what devs say, piracy will help determine whether or not someone will buy a game. I pirate **** all the time, if I like the game I buy it.... only one game I didn't pirate and wish to God, that I had... and that is Mass Effect 3.

Blah...I didn't think I could be any less enthused about the 720. The more I hear the less I care. Right about now, I'm feeling very comfortable with my PC and Wii U. At least the Wii U gives you choice of whether or not you want it updating and whatnot while it's powered down. These sound like a bunch of sh!t. $ony and Miro$oft are taking their platforms right where I feared they would if they were backed by the power of enough greed and fanboyism. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who feels this way.

So far I am liking the idea of a PC/PS4 combo.

For the price of one PS4 or Xb0x 720 = You can build two high-end rigs that will beat the **** out of this two probably.

It's an engine battle today with next-gen consoles and pc gaming.
Yesterday (so to speak) was the exclusives to consoles and PC gamers have to wait 3 or 4 months until some decent game got released.
Always consoles have/had top priority when some new game cames out.
I won't name franchises nor some game specific but you get what i mean.

Now the issue is not about which one deliver first. If to consoles or PC gaming some ****ty ported version of the game, it's about which engine (next-gen) games devs will use and if it works well or it's well optimized for PC.

You don't need to use your third eye to understand this and how the this whole situation is seriously ****ed up.

Sony as MS will use any dirty trick to "label" this next-gen products as a console when it's a high-end with the lifespan of butterfly if they don't give the choice to end user to upgrade their consoles = GPU/RAM/HDD.

$299 + $120 (2 years of live) + $240 (the mentioned $10 a month) = OUCH please use lube the next time you rape me.

The reason I say I think it may be wrong is that MS might be doing the same thing with the next xbox that they are doing with the current Xbox 360s and that is a price cut if you subscribe to 2 years of live at $10 a month. If that is the case then that makes the price $539...... ok now that I have done the math I think they may try to pull the bs exactly like you have it written. So the $299 price tag ends up costing $659 and you are locked into a contract with a box MS can disable for non payment and breach of contract. They are already disabling boxes for people that get the $99 360 and dont stick to the terms of their rape.

I use live but I will not be falling for that crap. I think I will just pay my $500 up front LOL if I were to get one of these.

Live used to be cool before I had to view ads on a paid service. Every app has ads and the dashboard is full of them. PSN has less ads and it remains free (for now)

This next gen is really starting to make me sad and I am really starting to pat myself on the back for diving into PC gaming when I did

Nothing here making me think wow...except illumiroom, which is just a gimmick any console/pc will have when its cloned

I'm thinking more and more to just get a decent PC (used to be a huge PC gamer at uni), and forget this generation of console$.

Note: you wrote always-on bullet point twice in the main article :P

I'm not really interested in a console that depends on Internet connection, nor sympathize with the prices. But I know I'll buy, depending on the exclusive titles.

I mean, for me it's useless to have a mega hardcore pc if I can not play the games I want...

So pay 500$ to play MAYBE a dozen games that will cost you another 500$... seems legit.

Actually the games that made me buy the ps3 and xbox360 not come close to a dozen.

Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon were the reasons why I bought a xbox360, and GOW 3 and Uncharted made me buy the PS3.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Tekken God of War, and Socom

SOCOM was ruined by Seth Luisi (thank you Sony)

Metal Gear was great but I dont see it staying an exclusive especially with Kojima mentioning the fox engine on PC.

God of War was also awesome..... well God of War 3 was awesome. Now any God of War game is a desperate attempt at milking the cash cow some more. Series shouldve died with Zeus at the end of 3.

Tekken of course has went multi platform and sadly what was once a great fighting game exclusive to the PS brand plays better on Wii U and 360.

In other words I have learned my lessons about exclusives. Sure I have played some great ones but I am going to have to see a lot of great ORIGINAL exclusives to make me even want to look at another console.

I see PC and Steam really picking up and I doubt consoles will exist in the generation after next. I see services from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft popping up on PC with peripherals for PC. Well they will still exist but they will not have the fanbase that they once had. PC gaming and mobile gaming will be the death of the console.

I mentioned SOCOM and exclusives for PS3 but I failed to mention the exclusives on 360. Gears of War needs to die too. Halo 4 was great and I hope they can keep that up but I see MS really trying to push Live on the PC more with the next xbox and windows 8.

carldenning will like this one. Another reason Why I love the PC. This video is older and there are more maps now like Crossroads.

I don't see consoles going anywhere. A console's biggest strength has always been that it's purely recreational.
