    ======================================================================
This package includes the system software update data for
    PlayStation(R)3 debugging station.

    WARNING:
Do *NOT* update from versions below 0.96 directly to this
flash. Instead, update from earlier versions to version 0.96, then
update to this version. Failure to update to 0.96 prior to applying
this flash may render your hardware inoperable. Such hardware must
be returned to SCE for repair.

Please update the flash memory with a file included in
this package. Instructions for the update is the same
as an update for a reference tool.

The following storage media can be used.
    - A USB mass-storage device with a capacity of at least
256 MB, which can be connected to any of the USB connectors
    on the debugging station

Perform the following steps on the host computer:
    - Make a directory named PS3 in the root directory of the
storage medium, and then make a sub-directory UPDATE in it.
    - Copy the update data to the created PS3UPDATE directory
    in the medium.
    - Remove the “.NNN.0xx” portion from the file name (to
    rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP).

Insert the storage medium that contains the update data,
and then select and launch the “System Update” in the GUI
menu. Select “Update via Storage Media” for “Select an
update method”. Follow the instructions shown on the screen
    from then on.

    :Update Data

    ———————————————————————-
    Changes in Release 441.001
    ———————————————————————-
    <System Software (GUI)>
    - The update data for debugging station has been updated
at the same timing as the release of the system software 4.41.
This update does not affect titles.
Also, there is no change in the system software GUI.

    [Known Issues/Restrictions]
<Check menu in the Game column>
    - Validation of a media or the file system itself cannot be performed
from the Check menu in the Game column.

When submitting a master disc, make sure to verify the disc that no error
is present using the Disc Image Generator for PlayStation(R)3 or
the Disc Image Checker for PlayStation(R)3.

    - When performing the check from the Check menu in the Game column,
if the number of result files exceeds approximately 80 to 100 depending
on each check item, the file entries of the root directory in the USB
mass storage run out and the subsequent check result files may no
    longer be stored.
In such case, move the check result files to another directory.

    ———————————————————————-
    Notes
    ———————————————————————-
    - The system software of the debugging station can be now downgraded
    to 4.41.
Using this update data, you can also downgrade the system software
version 4.X0 or later to 4.41.

    Note:
Please refer to “5 Updating Flash Memory -> Downgrading the Flash Memory”
of the “Reference Tool Software Setup Guide” document for more details
    on downgrading the Flash memory.

It's not on the ps3devwiki yet ([MENTION=131344]euss[/MENTION]?), but I have heard rumors a couple of weeks ago it was "about".

I have no way to personally verify, and people with C2D converts should steer clear of this for now, or risk bricking... Anyone with a legit DEBUG PS3 and a flasher want to confirm or deny?

      Version.txt looks legit....

Cool, thanks for the post OP
now the big question is...will this brick C2D converts?
Id have to assume that whatever checks they put in the other official DEX firmware is still there and will probably brick converts.
Hopefully a DEX CFW can be made from this but its not really needed yet.

      w0313,

According to devwiki, you would want a backup of your dex dump, as your flash would already need to have the target ID of dex in it. But, the debricking process seems to be a little different. You'll need to patch your dump at ROS0, ROS1, trvk_prg0, trvk_prg1, trvk_pkg0, and trvk_pkg1. I think there is an autopatcher. Let me find it.

Yeah, they do have an autopatcher for the process: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1...koff.rar_links

The update WILL brick your console though, because of the addition of the check in EID5 for a valid target ID (they're may be additional checks, FSELF Control Flag, Debug Support Flag would be easy enough to add, and converts don't have these flags set) and I haven't been able to find a single person who confirmed being able to use a flasher to restore their converted unit back to 4.20 (or 4.25) from 4.30 or higher (where EID5 check is added in. I would assume you could downgrade and fix, but I don't know for sure.

All of the fancy shiny buttons. This is important more because Rebug can now make a 4.41 REX CFW for CEX consoles. The other important thing is that 4.41 CFW will now have proper Cinavia bypass now.

The joys of DEX is that it can load a game over LAN as well as being able to play pretty much 99% of all games discless. These features are included in Rebug REX CFW. I would love someone long time (no homo) if they patch the next REX with RSOD bypass.

cinanavasia bypass is not necessary for me since my 25' monitor is the same one I use for playstation so I can just watch the avi's that are protected with cinavasia using vlc instead of wifi'ing them to ps3 and then maybe they will work or maybe not.

I am more interested in LAN game mounting and 99% discless. I have an HDMI out on my laptop, so I can connect that to my 42" HDTV and have at it.

No. Reason: DEX is not a public firmware and isn't legal to redistribute. Sony would get their panties in a twist over us linking to it.

if you decrypt the 4.x basic_plugins.sprx, just search for:
      Code:
      409E002048000010
      and replace with:
      Code:
      4800002048000010
this is based on rogero's 4.x bypass patch and i have only searched for it to patch it myself to lower 4.x cfws.

[SPOILER]i dunno if it is related to rsod, but he also added some trophy patch. i am using both of them

to patch np_trophy_util.sprx based on rogero, just search for:

      Cyberskunk,

Thank you so much for confirming that for more; it's been bugging me like crazy because I couldn't get a confirmation. I have a retail ps3 and a real test/debug ps3, but I really didn't want to convert my retail NAND ps3 to dex, solder in a progskeet, and than brick it on purpose just to see if it was a recoverable brick. I may have too anyway, because of my curiosity with the checks built into newer dex firmwares, and it shouldn't be to difficult to dump and compare my retail console on 4.20 (or 4.25 dex) and my debug on 4.20. As always, looking forward to the release of a newer fully functional REX firmware.

If you have a valid dump, you can recover from any brick caused from a bad/corrupted flash.
In fact, with failed firmware installs, you can recover without a valid dump. Just dump the flash, patch for downgrade, and install firmware.

      @playerkp420 ,

I understand the ability to recover from a failed firmware update, or a brick from bad/corrupted flash. Sadly, I've got quite proficient at soldering progskeets to NAND consoles to fix various bricks for myself and friends (well, in reality learning a skill is a good thing) I was always curious about this particular kind of update, because 4.30 or higher DEX will install successfully on converted units, but upon restart you receive the RLOD. I would naturally assume you can debrick through traditional methods, but the dev wiki lists a different recovery method for dex units.

And honestly, since there seems to be little out there on why convert units brick (aisde from EID5 check, which we cannot properly decrypt or "fake" generated data for) We seem to know little (relative) about EID5, aside from its connection with aim_spu_module, and for my consoles (all NAND), its location is 0x0080C50 to 0x0080D0F. I don't think we even have the proper keyseeds to decrypt EID5. The only real thing I've found about the checks were in a random pastebin: http://pastie.org/6169158#40,43,50

In all reality, I just didn't want to tell @w0313, that he could recover 100% from the brick, without knowing for sure, so I was grateful for @Cyberskunk giving a confirmation, since I couldn't find another one.

@habs_powerSGK You can find the firmware file on ps3scenefiles, among other places, if you need it, but obviously other members nor I can just post an open link for you.

      1. THIS IS A DEX FIRMWARE. For Official Sony PlayStation 3 debugging units. This will not work on CEX to DEX converts as they are not fully DEX units. IT WILL BRICK CEX to DEX CONVERTED UNITS! You will need a hardware flasher and a good, valid dump of your NAND/NOR to get it back to working order.

      2. This firmware, if you manage to install it on CEX will brick your console and you will need a hardware flasher and a valid NAND/NOR dump to get it back to working order.

1: Install Hardware Flasher of your choice.

      2: Dump your NOR/NAND

3: Unpkg the COREOS out of REBUG 4.41 LITE PUP to obtain the 7mb 'content' file.

4: Patch your NOR/NAND ros0/ros1 using the 7mb 'content' file

5: Write the patched dump back to PS3

EDIT: (User is in DEX if they were able to install this 4.41 DEX)

6: Turn on PS3 and install REBUG 4.30 D-REX from XMB

7: Use REBUG Toolbox to switch back to CEX (Included in 4.30 D-REX)

8: Install whatever CFW you want after this.

[MENTION=10242]Cyberskunk[/MENTION]We are so many to wonder why don't you release spoof right now, are you testing it ?? Because for now we are waiting for your clean spoofer instead of this from SGK or others, or for Cfw 4.46... Thanks for giving us some news, we love rebug

Firmware version 0.96 is the lowest firmware this update can be safely installed from, so yeah you should be good to go.
