EDGE is currently celebrating twenty years as a source of gaming news and opinion. As part of this anniversary EDGE is releasing special covers for the magazine, looking at some of the most influential games in the past two decades.

Not only that but they’ve listed the top consoles of the last twenty years, and Sony’s PlayStation 2 has taken the honour of first place.

Qwikrazor87 and Acid_Snake keep the update’s rolling with this new “fix” for their already released VHBL exploit, be sure to check Wololo site for all this and even more.

The updates keep coming! As the latest VHBL release was a bit precipitated due to external events, the first release made by Acid_Snake and Qwikrazor87 wasn’t optimal, and some of you reported issues running, among others, famous Super NES emulatorSnes9XTYL. Qwikrazor87 has been hard at work over the past few days to address all these issues.

We have to keep in mind here that this is an unusual situation, not only because the exploit was announced much earlier than was initially planned, but also because technically, if you count the US/EU variations, the VHBL had to be ported (and maintained!) to a total of 8 games. This is a lot to test, and obviously the hackers don’t have all copies of all games. It so happens that most of the testing happens on PSPs, and sometimes tiny inconsistencies with the PSP emulator on the Vita can lead to bugs such as the one experienced in Snes9XTYL.

This latest patch fixes Snes9xTYL issues, but also seems to improve the experience in other homebrews. Some people have reported a better stability in Gameboy Advance emulator gPSP. As a reminder, you can find a huge list of VHBL-ready homebrews in this thread.

To be honest: Fuck@ you! Why don’t give some free PS4′s to Best-buy Managers?. Even better! Give some to Wallmart managers too. My god..this is insane and they gave also SEVEN games. :P

    To quote:

While Microsoft is thanking its employees with a special edition white Xbox One, Sony is courting GameStop managers with a free PlayStation 4 and seven games. According to Joystiq, the announcement was made during the GameStop Expo which is currently taking place in Las Vegas.

In addition to the PS4, the seven games are said to be: Killzone: Shadowfall, NBA 2K14, Madden, FIFA 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4 and Beyond: Two Souls. Before you go speculating, Sony has already confirmed that Beyond: Two Souls is for PlayStation 3. The others are all for PS4 and are a mix of physical and digital vouchers.

Not a bad move on Sony’s part; try and win over the people who are responsible for pushing your system to consumers. And I’m sure GameStop loves that Sony is all for used games and trading.

    Hope they don't fall short.

Over one million PS4 consoles have been pre-ordered. Fergal Gara statement about this that those pre-orders are higher than expected. While MS will be offering a free copy of FIFA 14 with Xbox-One (lol).
I hope they have enough units or costumers will start to get mad and the less you want is an angry mob.
Let’s see what happen in the next months.

    To quote:

Just in case you couldn’t sense the confidence from Sony’s camp by the announcement thatover one million PS4 consoles have been pre-ordered, Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara has reminded us that PS4 pre-orders are “breathtakingly high.” In all fairness, it was brought up over conversation that Microsoft will be offering a free copy of FIFA 14 with the Xbox One.

“That’s a robust promotion, I would say,” Gara told Gamespot, adding, “We are not seeking to accelerate our preorders any further, to be honest. [PS4 preorders] are breathtakingly high as they are right now. We do not have a preorder problem. We will remain focused on value, and there’s lots we can do around launch to make gamers feel looked after in a PS4 world.”

When asked if he expects the PS4 to sell out, Gara responded, “It’s highly likely there’s going to be a shortage.”

“Where we are today is, we’re trying to think like a retailer and help them not to disappoint their customers, so we’ve advised them to say beyond August 5th, we’re not guaranteeing day one delivery. So the very significant numbers of preorders they had up to that day we’re very confident will be delivered for day one.

“We hope that some more people will also get it day one, but as we finalize precise allocations by market and then by retailer, we can offer greater clarity there. For example, an Amazon customer that may have preordered on the 15th of August, might get good news. That’s better than getting bad news. We’re just trying to give them the clarity to communicate clearly with their customers. It’s better to overdeliver than underdeliver,” Gara concluded.

The PlayStation 4 is due out in the U.S. on November 15, while releasing in Europe on November 29. It is expected to launch in 32 markets. Meanwhile, Microsoft is sticking with the November launch window for the Xbox One while downsizing its launch market to 13 countries. The company has given no hint as to how pre-orders are faring.

What is Project Phoenix?: Is a squad-based, real-time strategy game that has a nice mixture of Japanese RPG design influences. This started over Kickstarter and passed 10,000 supporters.

They are planning to make a PS4 release. It’s really interesting.

    Estimated release: Mid-2015.
Check youtube video which explains the basics of the game.

    To quote:

The Kickstarter JRPG Project Phoenix is continuing to gather pledges and backers, and it just passed 10,000 brave supporters, sitting on $623,746 at the moment of this writing and inching nearer to its second stretch goal.

In addition to that, Creative Intelligence Arts released the first video of a series that will explain the battle system in detail. The video stars Director and Producer Hiroaki Yura as he explains the use of terrain and tactical advantages in order to win even the most difficult battles.

The video includes some really interesting concepts and a few pieces of lovely artwork, so it’s a must see for the fans of the project. If you still didn’t pledge your support and the clip persuades you to do so, you can help on the official Kickstarter page.

Aldo has released a very nice tool for all those people desperate to try and play the leaked psn pkg of Grand Theft Auto 5.

You will need the gta5 eboot and use the program to try and find the encryption key …. good luck ;)

Quote From Aldo:   This tool is more an EXPERIMENT than a real key finder… a 128bit key is expected to take milleniums to bruteforce it, but if you are extremely LUCKY you could find a rifkey using this method. Anyway, I’m sharing this because a friend asked me to make it to have some fun.

Here is a new update to PSNope by homebrew developer user, with version 1.05. This tool will allow for PSID spoofing. The Re-activation of the legally obtain PSN Content, fake OFW and more. Checkout all the details in the release quote from the developer below.

    PSNope v1.05 by user

    latest additions:

    • psid spoofing
    • cleanup boot_history.dat etc.
    • delete boot_history.dat etc.
    • beep to indicate successful rif creation

    v1 features:

    • activate PSN content
    • spoof idps
    • fake ofw (remove cfw syscalls)
    • firmware independent i.e. no version specific offsets

    Greetings to:

Q: I want to activate PSN content. How to get started?
A: 1. create the folders psnopelic on your pen drive
    2. put the rap files of the content you want to activate into the “lic” dir
    3. plug your pen drive into the rightmost usb port of your ps3 (/dev_usb000)
    4. run PSNope

Q: Do i need the “aa” account to make it work?
    A: No, you don’t.

Q: How can i enable changing my idps?
A: open config.txt, change “spoof_idps=0″ to “spoof_idps=1″ and set “idps=” to the idps you want to use

Q: Where does it look for config.txt?
A: It looks for config.txt in the following places and uses the first it is able to open:
    1. /app_home/config.txt
    2. /dev_usb000/psnope/config.txt
    3. /dev_hdd0/game/BLES08890/USRDIR/config.txt

Q: I spoofed my idps and and activated some content. Why doesn’t it work?

A: Because your idps is part of the decryption algo. Please set “use_spoofed_idps” to “1″ to fix it.

    Q: Whats a “.klic” file?

A: Its a decrypted “.rap” file. PSNope supports these as well.

Q: How can i disable certain System Calls that may be detected?

    A: remove_cfw_syscalls=1

Q: Will PSNope work on future CFWs?

A: It should work as is, because there are no version specific offsets being used (unlike the others).

Q: Is there any chance my console could get bricked by PSNope?
A: Nope  no changes are being made to your console’s flash.

Q: Can I use the source code or parts of it in my own projects?
A: Sure, as long as your project is open source.

please have a look into config.txt.
enabling or disabling the new features should be pretty much self-explanatory.

Framerates discussion, they want to lock on 30FPS. Ivory tower and Ubisoft Reflections statements about this:

Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections are “aiming for 30 frames per second locked” with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of next year’s open-world racer The Crew, creative director Julian Gerighty has told VideoGamer.com, stating that a higher frame rate would be unrealistic given the size of the world.

“We’ve never been at 60 frames per second,” Gerighty told us during a gameplay presentation this morning. “We’ve always been aiming for 30 frames per second locked. Today, unfortunately certain PCs have been overheating, so we’re having frame rate drops. It’s a hardware issue, not a software issue.

“60 frames per second is, of course, what we would all like to obtain,” he continued, “but it’s such a big world, and with all the online features running, it’s just not realistic to obtain that. 30 [frames] locked is really, really good and exactly what we’ve been focussed on.”

Despite being co-developed by Driver: San Francisco studio Ubisoft Reflections, development on The Crew is being led by French studio Ivory Tower, comprised of ex-Eden Games developers, which has created a proprietary engine for the next-gen racer.

“In fact, no,” Gerighty replied, when asked whether The Crew was running on a modified version of Driver: San Francisco’s engine. “It has the DNA of both Test Drive Unlimited, which was the world of Hawaii [and] seamless online, because it was conceived by Ivory Tower in France who are ex-Eden Games [developers]. But… this is a multi-studio project, so when Ubisoft asked Ivory Tower who [they wanted to] work with within Ubisoft, there is no better team - maybe in the world - for an action driving game, than working with Ubisoft Reflections. So Ubisoft Reflections are working hand-in-hand with Ivory Tower.

“The tech behind it is proprietary to Ivory Tower. This is something that is completely brilliant in terms of tools that allows us to build a very varied, very spectacular, beautiful world very easily… So it’s really more, in terms of technical side of things, Ivory Tower.”

The Crew’s open world is set across a map of North America, with Ivory Tower aiming to include “around 15″ cities. But don’t expect a 1:1 recreation of the US, Gerighty warns.

“It’s obviously not 1:1. If you’ve ever had a road trip even from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, it’s four or five hours away. We’re still in the business of entertainment, so what we’ve done is we’ve done a condensed version of everything. Running from San Francisco to New York will last about an hour.”

Yesterday, Dead Rising 3 developer Capcom Vancouver told VideoGamer.com that it was “targeting 30 frames a second” and working with Microsoft to help improve the game’s performance.

PS4 racer DriveClub, meanwhile, still runs at 30FPS despite development team Evolution targeting a 60FPS frame rate in time for launch.

Whilst Rockstar have denied any GTA5 leak, Sony have come out and admitted the leak and taken full responsibility, here is a quote from the source:

Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.

Annelies has posted a very helpful guide on modding Dark Souls for cheating purposes, here is a quote from his thread:

I do not condone cheating in online video games. This is strictly for educational purposes.

    • PS3 System
    • PC
    • USB Storage Device (FAT32)
    • Dark Souls Video Game

    Start by downloading this software:

    • PS3 Bruteforce Save Data 4.0.7
    • Modio
    • Dark Souls Mega Mule [PS3] - YouTube (Links in the description)
    • Dark Souls Save Editor
    • Xbox 360 Save File

    Let’s Begin:

    1. Extract the Dark Souls Mega Mule save file corresponding with your version of the game to your Desktop.

    2. Open Bruteforce Save Data and have it target the folder containing your Dark Souls Mega Mule save files.

    3. Select Decrypt PFD and then choose Decrypt All Files.

    4. Go into the Mega Mule folder and move the file called 01USER.DAT to your Desktop.

    5. Open Modio and then choose Browse. Find your 360 save and open it.

    6. Click Advanced and then Edit Package Contents.

    7. Go back to your Desktop and find 01USER.DAT and rename it to USER_DATA01.

    8. Drag & drop it into the Modio window containing the 360 save file contents. Overwrite and replace the existing file.

    9. Click Done and Save Changes.

    Here’s the Fun Part:

    1. Click on Dark Souls Remake.exe and open your 360 save file.

    2. Choose USER_DATA01. The character’s name should be o Bandit.

    3. Edit WHATEVER YOU WANT except Enable All Warp Bondfires, Unlock All Gestures and Killed Bosses because those are already in the save file and you don’t want to cause any problems, do you?

    4. When you’re done click Save All and close the program.

    Let’s End This:

    1. Open the 360 save file again using Modio.

    2. Click Advanced and then Edit Package Contents again.

    3. Right click on USER_DATA01 and click Save As and save it to your Desktop.

    4. Rename that file back to 01USER.DAT and put it back into your Mega Mule save folder.

    5. Go back to Bruteforce Save Data and click on Update PFD and then choose Update PFD (Partial).

You are now ready to copy the save file to your PlayStation 3 system and play the game. In order to do this you must:

    1. Plug your USB Storage Device into the PC.

    2. Create a new folder on the device called PS3.

    3. Create a new folder called SAVEDATA inside of the newly created PS3 folder.

    4. Move the folder containing your modded save into the SAVEDATA folder. (BLUS30782DRAKS005 for exmaple)

    5. Plug the USB device into your PS3 and copy the save over.

    6. Play the game and choose o Bandit - if you renamed the character, it will still say o Bandit the first time you load the game but your new name will appear shortly.

If you are from the UK or Europe, you might find it a tad daunting creating a US PSN account, as you need various pieces of information, like a valid US postal address and valid Zip/Post code, the tutorial was originally for this article:
    What Is PlayStation Plus ?

Not all homebrews will work with VHBL, head over to the gigantic VHBL Homebrew thread for details on what games work or not.

There is a bug with the default menu (wMenu) which might tell you with a red screen, something along the lines of:”Error! Couldn’t find any homebrews in ms0:/PSP/VHBL/ Please check your config file and/or restart VHBL”

This is a known issue, and happens only as long as you don’t have any homebrew installed. To get rid of this error message, press the LEFT TRIGGER on your console, this will force wMenu to go to the SAVEDATA subfolder.

The issue is a simple one but I was too lazy to fix that. People with the right coding skills might want to have a look at the source of wMenu here and send me a patch.

alternatively, you can give a try to an other menu such as 138Menu here

It is *strongly* recommended that you turn of all wireless connections on your PS Vita, and that you use OpenCMA on your PC instead of the regular CMA. This is recommended because otherwise your console has a way to force you to upgrade the firmware even before you get a chance to use the exploit.
Extract the HBL archive matching your version of the game in your CMA PSP Savedata folder. It is a folder on your PC named PSSAVEDATA/[lots of random characters here]. If you don’t know where it is, check your settings in CMA
Connect your PS Vita to the PC through the CMA, it should give you the possibility to copy the savedata from your PC to the Vita. If not, you probably extracted it in the wrong folder. (Note: You will also want to install some homebrews with a similar technique, read the section below)
To run HBL, start the game, then load your savegame, and go to profile-> alter name (except for Arcade Darts where that step is not necessary). At this point, VHBL should start

Installing homebrews on the PSP was an easy task. On the Vita, until better solutions are provided, it’s quite a pain in the ass.
The CMA will only let you copy savedata, and will not recursively browse folders.

To address this, HBL comes with a tool that can extract archives with a specific structure.

Packaging the homebrew for installation on the Vita:
    1) download PSP homebrews from your favorite website
    2) extract the homebrew somewhere on your hard drive, and with your favorite utility, zip it again with the store setting (no compression), in a file that you will name “INSTALL.ZIP” (uppercase is important). If your compression tool does not have compression options, I recommend 7zip.
    3) take any PSP savedata (but not the one used for HBL!), and add the “INSTALL.ZIP” to that folder, in your PC CMA folder. so your PSP Savedata will look something like this:
in folder PSSAVEDATA/1a2b3c4def5678/UCUS12345000/ (or something like this) you will have the following files:
    - ICON0.PNG
    - PIC1.PNG
    - DATA.BIN

On this page you will find several pre-packaged homebrews that have already been prepared to run with VHBL.

    1) run OpenCMA on your PC, and CMA on your Vita
    2) copy the previously packaged SAVEDATA (see above) with your homebrew in “INSTALL.ZIP” on your Vita
    3) run HBL (how to run HBL is explained in the previous section)
    4) navigate with the HBL menu to the SAVEDATA folder, then go to the folder you just downloaded (in my example, UCUS12345000), and click cross or circle on it
    5) At this point, the HBL menu should ask you if you want to install the homebrew. select yes, and wait until HBL is done extracting your homebrew
    6) The homebrew is now installed, and you can run it by going to the VHBL folder, if everything went well, a new subfolder with your homebrew has been created here, and you can run the homebrew

OpenCMA is strongly recommended to install if you want to use VHBL. Open CMA is a tool by Virtuous Flame that allows you to copy files from and to your vita without being connected to the internet. This is useful, especially if you don’t want Sony to forcefully update your firmware.

A lot of GTA V information has been leaked from yesterday till now with no comment from Rockstar, as every one on the internet knows that the game appeared to download on PSN by mistake and many people downloaded it and start posting files and screens on the internet, also i was surprised a couple minutes ago i discovered that the game has been uploaded to the torrent websites!!!

Rockstar finally commented about it and clarified that every thing leaked is totally fake:

“As we get closer and closer to game launch, there will be lots of people around the internet posting supposed leaked information about the game. Please do not proliferate such things here as we certainly don’t want any misinformation spread from things that are fake nor do we want spoilers spread regarding anything that might be true.”

Also many people worried that the company might approached the release date because of the Pre-Load version, The company has also denied that:

“Anyone engaging in such discussion here at the Rockstar Newswire before September 17th will have commenting privileges revoked until well after the game’s release. Thank you for understanding, Rockstar Games.”

You can check some soundtrack ripped from the original game from here.
