PlayStation 3 developer ModRobert has started a project that will allow for implementation of CFW on the 4k models by figuring out a way around of having to sign for them, and hopefully, obtaining the keys.

Today (or yesterday) Sony said yet again: “Hey guys, we know about your ODE device” with a new optional update 4.65.
Though is not mandatory, probably is just an omen of what’s to come.

    A little background story:

ODE devices appeared out of the blue, 3 companies, 3 similar products of different quality but with a common goal.
Fill those demanding consumers libido, handed in silver plate with a nice price tag on it: Also, letting those to play online without being spotted so easy.
With a huge plus that this device works with “Unhackeables” models = 3K and 4K series.

The ones who made this possible, just created a new *breed* of consumers. Clearly this is not a stupid strategy but a well executed one.
Covering a huge range of people who doesn’t want to read nor wait anymore for something else.

    Lesser evil:

I still consider this devices a lesser evil in this situation. So far in almost 2 years, many people got bored with playing the *waiting game*.
While PS3 scene made progress and there are many people making contributions to keep it alive, ODDe’s managed to silent those annoying voices.
But also managed to piss off other people who don’t like the idea of emulation and want a free solution to all this.

Creators of this devices, could care less of those opinions. After all people still buy them, not using a morality scale while getting them at expensive prices.

We use our morals, each time we purchase something?:

A good question with a nice analogy.

Picture yourself entering into Puma or Adidas store, just to buy a pair of jeans.
First thing you will probably do, is check the price, size and color and if those jeans will look nice on you.
If you are satisfied with that, you will probably buy it and continue with your daily routine.

But wait…You made a background check BEFORE making that purchase about those two brands?.
I guess if you have an internet connection, you will know about the “Dassler Brothers”.

Even knowing about “Dassler brothers”, people will buy those jeans. Why?, because as consumers they need to fulfil their needs.
And if the product is good enough, who the fu$@! care about if those brands had a shady past?.
You need a new pair of jeans, you buy them end of this history.

Same modus operandi each time we have to buy something. Clearly we don’t use a strict moral code, we don’t need it.
Otherwise will we have to go to a party/work or whatever, naked.

Let’s apply the same example to what happen with ODE too:

    1) Do consumers care where it came from?.

Clearly not, if the product works and those features promised are there are more than enough.
They don’t have to struggle if CFW is 10 better and is FREE.

As long as the device work, nobody will bitch about it.
Let’s get back to the topic :P

    CFW and ODE: Getting online.

I use my PS3 with CFW OFFLINE and the other with OFW ONLINE. Many of us got tired of make the same reply over and over again about the risks of going online with a modified system.
Which clearly (not the first time we said this nor the last) you are breaking Sony’s TOS.
You’ve read that TOS?, i didn’t. I just use common sense, if my system was modified i will keep it offline at all costs.

Many CFW users will continue to go online, no matter what; without knowing nor caring about WHO founded Sony. Do they need that data?, nope.
If you buy a console is to play with it not to get morally conflicted by their policies.

Yeah, restrictions could by a pain in the arse. But hey, those are the *game rules*. You bought something that if you read carefully, it’s not even yours.

With that in mind, indiscriminate and reckless people will continue to ruin online experience.
After all you don’t need to pay a monthly fee for a subscription to play online. Just get the game, buy some *hacks* and ruin others experience.

ODE users as CFW users, do the same when comes to playing online.
With CFW which is free, going online is not something new. When ODDE’s appeared for the first time, that big promise was to get online without getting spotted.
Meaning less chances of getting hammered faster than blackwidow’s signature move.
So probably while you were in PSN, you played against other ODE and CFW users countless times.

Did you noticed?, could you spot the difference?. Furthermore could you tell which one which was clearly cheating was on CFW and which one was with an ODE?.
    I guess not.

PSN will remain free for PS3 users?:

Due to what i mentioned above, countless of ilegal *aliens* accessing to a network where you don’t have to pay unless you want PLUS.
Chances are that Sony probably will get tired of this shi! anytime soon and close it and make an imperative subscription to use their services.
    Pretty much like PS4.

Someone who is paying a monthly subscription, i highly doubt it that will jeopardize his account to cheat. Though i won’t discard this idea.
Reckless people make online experience terrible and if they are capable of pay for hacks, i guess they won’t have any *moral issue* while doing that.

    ODE, kill confirmed?:

Pretty much i covered most i wanted to say and it’s not a rant per se, but more a point of view which you could agree with or not.
I’m sure that they will block ODE from PSN. This 4.65 optional update was an not-so-encoded message alerting that they watch the traffic on their own network.
Is just a formal *salute to those ODE users*.

When the next update comes out, they will try for the third or 4th time to shorten ODE’s lifespan.
Many people using this device didn’t got caught while going online, until 4.60 update and this one forced them to make some changes.
But, IF the product keeps a fail ratio high enough and their consumers start to whine about not working properly.
ODE companies will have to make a decision, like happened with TB (trueblue) back in time.

Cease official support, cease manufacture process and hide for some months or years until they have something more to make business with.

I guess if we see the ODE getting fully blocked, another device will replace it. If they don’t find a workround.
As you may notice, people hating this devices and wanting free solutions those opinions and huge stances against them, Do NOT create awareness. Quite the contrary, more your bash something.
More interesting it gets for many. I guess is human nature, as curiosity killed the cat; some managed to skin it before that to happen.

So signal the sirens and rally the troops. Because next time, we might face another thing we probably don’t like.
No surprises though, happened several times and will continue to happen while we have more and more *uneducated* guests.

With the Lesser evil gone, is the devils’ feast ;)

There are rumors that Google backed out of the Twitch deal due to antitrust (monopoly) concerns, but there is not too much I’ve seen on the matter other than one or two articles, but the overall consensus is this: Twitch has been sold and for slightly less than Google had offered, at $970 million vs the $1 billion Google/youtube bid. Because youtube is a video streaming provider not unlike Twitch, I can see the rumor being true. On the other hand, this had gamers worried, since youtube is becoming increasingly notorious for flagging and taking down videos because other companies issue a content ID matches on all kinds of videos, not excluding Let’s Play videos (which until recently, Nintendo was committing in a shady way.) Gamers worried that Twitch being a youtube property would either result in the termination of Twitch as we knew it or it would be incredibly hounded like YouTube currently is.

A quote from Twitch CEO Emmett Shear that really sticks out.

We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.

It actually sounds like a victory, but what do you think about it?

User @mertonixx posted this and PSN is down ATM. (at least for me).
Seems that they didn’t waste their time to target several game servers: Blizzard, LOL and many others.
Strange enough a twitter user called = LizardSquad is the one who claims to be behind this attack and even taunting authorities while giving his name and address. (Which i guess those are fake)

While PSN is down and Sony posted the following:

Sony has posted an update on its blog confirming that the network outage is due to DDoS attack, and the safety of users’ personal information.

Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been breached.

We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Earlier today, Sony confirmed it was fully aware of the issue and is at work to get the network back online, which you can see below.

    Why a Political move?:

Well, that pic posted on Lizarsquad’s twitter seems quite literal = Today we planted the ISIS flag on @Sony’s servers #ISIS #jihad.
Maybe is just a smoke screen, but there’s no official statement about why this happened.
Though this is no near close to what happened in 2011, no personal data got leaked. Surely got a huge impact and raised an alert to Sony and other companies as well.

    I doubt this is “Hacktivism*.

Meanwhile Sony is trying to get back online ASAP.
Another thing that caught my attention that PS4 glich/error code had a similar issue some days ago. Several users reported this, meanwhile others had no problems while logging into PSN.

Let us know if PSN is up and running in your region.

Playstation Home will be no more at the end of March, 2015. Only in Japan and Asia. In preparation for the closure, sales of dedicated content will be suspended on September 24th.
Reasons?: Probably they have something bigger to show.
Though North American as European versions of the service won’t be affected for now.

    To quote:

PlayStation Home will be shutting down at the end of March, 2015 according to Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia. All sales for usable content in PS Home will be also interrupted starting on September 24,2014 in preparation for the service termination. The North American and European versions of the service won’t be affected for now.

Sony has not revealed the reason behind this decision, and whether or not PS Home will be coming to PlayStation 4 anytime soon. It’s very likely for the service to also be closed in NA and Europe in the next few months, or years. So, you should enjoy PS Home while it lasts, because you might not have another chance next time.

PSN is scheduled to be down on Monday. The posting doesn’t say why but I’m guessing that BESIDES the usual sweeping under the rug, they’re getting the network ready for Share Play.

The network will be taken offline from 9:40 AM PDT to 4:50 PM PDT on Monday. During that time, you won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, Account Management or Account Registration services, although you will be able to use Netflix and play certain games online, provided you logged in to PSN by August 20th.

Horror genre is and always will be an uncharted terrority. Probably the most exploited one lately and the one who lures gamers to explore even more their own weakness.
20 years ago, horror games were simple polygons and the plot was not so easy to understand without that game manual.

But what about now?, having such graphical displays of violence/murder/rape. Those answers still remain dormant somewhere deep into ourselves.

Fear, the oldest and strongest emotion:

The other day i was watching some Hitchcock movies that i own, like “Rear window” and “Dial M for Murder”.
Just to realize how easy was to scare the shi$!@ out of people without saying much nor showing that much, not like movies and games from today.
All that you need is to play with people minds and trick them to think something that will contradict their morals and principles.
Is a shocking and crucial factor, specially when you trow many details for and to the viewer who will try by any means to rationalize at all costs.

    But something is missing..today.

    Horror games today: Next-gen nightmares?

I saw many trailers, which are visually attractive. Like “The Evil Within” and “Dying light” and the last one “Silent hill(s)”.
In all of them, noticed the same pattern scrambled all over the place:

    •  An evil entity.
    •  A ghoul.
    •  A ghost city.
    •  Haunted places.
    •  Guts everywhere.
    •  Sense of not getting out alive from many situations.
    •  Plot twist.
    • Good sound effects to keep up with the ambiance.

I feel that Game devs are currently abusing from what they can show and measuring a game quality on how much they can show to the gamer with a proper M for mature tag.
Losing sight and energy while trying way too hard to trigger a shock event into the viewers senses.
Thus several times they achieve to do that, while graphics are getting even more and more *realistic*.

There’s no real horror behind that, at least for me. Is just a crude and repetitive display on how gamers who love horror genre, got used to it and absorbed and understood that formula or concept.
Only left for them to do: is to keep pushing those boundaries, until there’s nothing left to show.

A crude display, but no magic behind it:

This is not limited only to horror genre, others games genre have a strong mix which sometimes work and bring something new to the table.
For example, Kojima made such a huge impact only *hinting* in so many of those MGSV red band trailers.
Indeed, he managed to show the spectator something that could cause a reaction. Adding torture and a moral behind it.
Specially with Paz, when they manage to extract a bomb from her entrails that had a peace sign; to later realize that she had another bomb in her body inserted into a *sensitive* place.

I though in that moment, shocked by that scene. That was not the gore in it that caused a reaction in me. But more thinking that this could happen in real life scenario.
Thus i respect Kojima’s work, specially what he is doing with Guillermo del toro and “Silent hill(s)” (love that franchise).
He is just pushing those boundaries i mentioned above to try to communicate with the spectator, by making YOU part of it.

Still, i didn’t saw that magic nor someone playing with people minds by giving them enough resources to get tricked.
Just someone who wants really bad to show his view of this twisted and sick little world.
That doesn’t mean that is bad or way too good to play, but still something doesn’t feel quite right.
    Still, no magic behind it.

Lazy or non-existent plot and more guts:

That’s the plan all along, make you step into that world and make you feel part of it.
Just place entrails and guts everywhere and some butcher hooks and done.
    But wait…what about the plot?.

When i saw Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” movie, I didn’t saw that. Hell, i didn’t saw someone committing a murder.
Just a person sitting and observing through a camera, how his neighbors behave. Their arguments, their habits and so on.
But almost at the end of the movie, saw the *killer* face but no so much proof whatsoever about that murder. Still struggling if the main character was the one to blame for all what happened.

While today, i’m struggling just to understand what the hell they did with the plot in many horror games and what those developers wanted to achieve.
Indeed they can trigger many emotions, but not sheer horror.
If you don’t have a plot or well-developed one, you have nothing. So at the end of the day you have a mediocre title which has nice graphics, ambiance and very good voice acting, but wait..what about the rest?.

    When senses fail in gaming:

Sony and MS are focused to *stupify* their consumers senses. Morpheus project and many others are proof that they need to literally *blind* you get you into the game.
While several indie games achieve and execute those magic tricks without so much effort and more imagination involved.
Like the latest i played called = “Five Nights at Freddy’s”.

Is funny and scary, because you can’t do nothing to protect yourself. In horror games that sense of having no tools or arms to avoid a fatal event is the key to success.
You know that something will happen, thing is you don’t know when or why.
Five Nights at Freddy’s, performs a *Hitchock-esche* trick with a basic premise. You work late at night in store full of animatronics bears.
Yeah, you read that well. You have to watch them via cameras installed in the place and as you make progress in the game.
You have to avoid at all costs those scary animatronics or robots to reach to you.

So there’s no music, only random robotic noises and things falling to the ground. You have to endure 6 game hours and you can jump into the next level.
There’s a pseudo-voyeurism sense in it, while you have to watch inanimate objects moving towards you. Without any specific reason given.
It’s a normal situation where anybody who happens to work at night in some place, alone. Will start to hear things, specially if that guy is sensitive towards certain things.
And guess what?, no gore and no vulgar display of graphics power. Just a game coded probably with Unity engine in less than a year.

You can call me *old-fashioned*, but i think that many devs and game studios. Seriously they need to watch more old movies, just to try to grasp the idea on how to further exploit what still remain dormant somewhere deep into ourselves.

Maybe it’s time for them to *Dial H for Horror* and get some fresh ideas on how to scare shi@$ those consumers lurking in those dark corners of this digital realm.
    Waiting eagerly for a change.

    Good night (or day).

As huge fan of Alien (the movie) and H.R Giger’s (R.I.P) work. This is awesome.
You play as Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley in those shady events in the Nostromo.
A nice game of survival horror which will give you more than enough to understand what really happened and probably some scares.
Thus you don’t have any guns, you have to make your way with your wits and use your head to play along with the environment.
One thing i didn’t like that they keep using those screams of Prometheus movie (which is from Scott Ridley) kinda justified in some point because he directed Alien (first movie). All the rest is priceless.

This awesome CGI trailer was produced by team over at Axis Animation.

Alien: Isolation comes out October 7th on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PC and PS4
