Today, I have been trying to hack a bit the Open PS2 Loader, in order to achieve better network speeds, but to no avail. It's open source, I can do that, right? lol j/k Anyways, a guy that started if first was very polite, and helped me to try and optimize it. But as I said, I did not achieve a thing. Or at least, not much. If I get anywhere, I'll let you guys know.

Did you try patching the game before trying? It's just an idea, I did not try it out.

Yeah Ive loaded it, played it too, the problem is with loading games via Wifi (which it does work) it just keeps crashing if i don't press start or X repeatedly, also, the loading times are horrendous. Works fairly well via usb though. : )

monsieur grimlord, i didn't think that 0.6 OPS2L worked with patches? Could be wrong though.
grimlord
02-01-2010, 07:15 PM
Yeah, it works with patches. In fact, some of the games do not even boot, without patching them first. So now, I always patch a game before I even try to run it. :D

what patches are there that u can use for games that dont work?
grimlord
02-02-2010, 04:52 AM
Patches I'm talking about are DNAS and IOPRP patches in USBUtil, when creating games. When copying a game, you have that option on the right side, to check, in the newest USBUtil, for which I uploaded on this thread a couple of pages ago.
Gambeno
02-02-2010, 11:26 AM
Im guessing the Patches doesn't fix the FMV pauses.
Also, Berserk and SD Gundam Generation Wars work over WIFI, but the FMV are choppy as usual.
grimlord
02-02-2010, 12:32 PM
Nope, does not fix the FMV stutter. For that, you should try loading a game over USB or over LAN cable, but it might not help (much).

Anyone have any advice ? I have a 60 gig Ps3 so it has the emotion engine.

Wow the CGi parts are stuttering like crazy. The loading is a little long, but not gamebreaking for most parts, but the CGI stuttering is really annoying.
Are there going to be any fixes for this, i know geohot hacked the ps3. Any chance of Ps2 Emulation etc... being on the ps3 someday ?

Why don't you try 0.6? Also, try patching the game first and using loader's compatibility options.
Fixes for stuttering? We sure hope so. The devs are working on improving the loader, so we can all look forward to new releases.
I too have a 60 GB PS3, but it doesn't have EE, only emulation. U sure it has EE? If it's UK, then I think it's only emulated.
Emulation on the PS3? You mean like a total bypass of backups without the loader? Well, if PS3 gets hacked for real, then I can say we can expect this as well. But you just keep on playing with the loader, for now. ;)

I have a US 60 Gig so yeah its Emotion Engine.
I tried 0.6, and it worked great.:) Its really not too bad besides the CGI scenes stuttering obviously. Its really amazing what people are doing with this, and its so easy to install. I cant wait to see what happens in the future. Thanks for the replies.

Ah 60 GB US, that's a good model. :) My fav actually...
Great to hear it worked. If you come on to a game that is not working, then try all the loaders released, with different compatibility modes enabled. If it still does not work, check out the source changes and compile the newest build. There is always a chance your game will work then.
I was glad to help. Have fun, dude.

Then you are experiencing a problem I suffered from, before I bought a monitor I can hook up a PS3 to. But my old tellie is still here, for the old school feeling when playing Genesis and such. :)
But to every problem, there is a solution. Here you go:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LPXDK8UM
This is a PAL to NTSC fix that you use to patch up your game images. You can either patch them to be always boot in NTSC, or you can select option to have a region selector when the game is booting. It is quite easy to use. The only problem is, you won't have the whole picture when converting from PAL to NTSC, because of a different Y position of a PAL screen. But when you get more familiar with it, you can try using Y-FIX OFFSET function, to try and get a better position of your game screen. There is an instruction included, but it's quite simple. Good luck, and have fun!

Excellent stuff! I tip my hat to the team!
I tested the following, streaming from PC -> PAL 60GB PS3. Using latest revision software (206, i believe, only with default settings) from this thread, streaming via wired from Win7. All games run unpatched.
-Deus Ex, unknown region, not working, choppy movies, stops after menus before gamestart.
-Thunderforce VI, jap, somewhat choppy movies, perfect gameplay!
-Lode Runner, jap, working fine.
-Outrun2SP, jap, hangs at car selection-screen.
-Espgaluda, jap, very long loadtime (even with alt-read method.), choppy gameplay and sound. I believe the problem is linked to the music, which can't be turned off.
-Rogue Hearts Dungeon, jap, some flicker on top of screen, otherwise playable, audio runs great.
-Haunted Mansion, unknown region, absolutely perfect! Looks better with picture smoothing off.
-Space Channel 5 part 2 Special Edition, ntsc-us, loads, stutter, out of sync, unplayable.
-Dog's life, unknown region, runs fine, low framerate, playable. (dunno of the framerate was like that in the original game)
-Rule of the Rose, unknown region, runs great.
-Haunting Ground, unknown region, runs fine.
-Shining Force Neo, us-ntsc, flawless besides a slight music stutter. Highly playable.
-Police 24/7. Doesn't load.
-Ibara, jap-ntsc, stuttering audio and gameplay. Unplayable, but running.
-Jet de go 2 - lets go by airliner, ntsc-jap, works, but hangs during gameplay.
-Do don pachi, jap-ntsc, stuttering, unplayable.
-Baroque, us-ntsc, hangs for ― a sec, every 5 seconds. Unplayable, but runs.
-CSI, unknown region, works fine.
-Glass Rose, pal, works fine.
-Mushihimesama, jap-ntsc, stuttering audio and gameplay. Unplayable, but running.
-Gauntlet - Dark Legacy, unknown region, works perfectly.
-Monkey Island 4, unknown region, works fine.
And thats all the testing i'm gonna do.
Btw. what is the IGR-keypress to return to the ps2 loader?
I also believe Action Replay would be possible, if someone coded a version that reloads the ps2 loader, after the code-selection. This has been done with a combination of Action Replay and Swap Magic. (google "ar max evo - swap magic edition")

If you have a 80gb PAL PS3 then itīs not ps2 compatible so unfortunately thereīs no way around that.
@dak1dsk1.
ya, the IGR is to return to ps2loader. you have to put the ps2loader elf on the vmc. I think it has to be named BOOT.ELF and inside a folder called BOOT.
This will only work on the NTSC(US or JPN) 20gb and 60gb consoles with the EE chip.
Has anyone tried this on the ps3 yet? Itīs a pretty cool feature, to bad it wonīt work on my PAL ps3. :)
I havenīt even had the time to try wireless yet. since everyone has said there hasnīt been to much improvement on speed Iīm hoping the new network modules havenīt been added yet.

I dont think ps1 iso's work, but ePSXe runs them nice on a single core pc...

It just needs a bios.
And some nice shaders to make it look spunky...

No, not that the moment, hopefully they will design a loader that incorporates the playing of ps1 iso's too. Would be handy, as there are quite a few ps1 games worth nabbing too. Also, i doubt we would have any fmv slowdown like we do on the ps2 games atm.
samson
02-12-2010, 09:36 AM
There is a psp emu that plays ps1 iso's converted, pops i think
and a guy on you tube managed it i think on a jap fat ps2 with BB Navi.

Thatīs pretty cool. I never seen a ps1 game running from hdd before.
Unfortunately that would never work on the ps3. I donīt think the BBnav disc boots and we donīt have access to the hdd. :(
A ps1 emulator is the only way to go though. We will never be able to boot into ps1 mode from ps2mode on the ps3. Not unless something new is discovered about how that all works. the PS1DRV module is missing from the ps2 bios on the ps3.
So are best hope is for ffgriever to finish or release a beta of his ps1emu for the ps2 and then cross are fingers that itīll work on the ps3
samson
02-12-2010, 07:03 PM
Thats a lot of hoping, crossing wishing and waiting for something that may not even work or get relesed publicly, No offenece @ ffgriever.
True the ps3 needs more hacking into, no hdd access but there must be code, source already in the psp and bb nav emu's thats usable in some way?

I made a guide for Codebreaker 10 with PS2 Loader .06 on the PS3 if anyone is interested
1. Make a folder in the root of a USB device, name it
SWAPMAGIC and copy the SMBOOT0.ELF into it.
2. Copy SWAPMAGIC Folder to MC\:01
3. Launch Codebreaker disc
4. Find your codes,go to the options menu and make sure
"Automatic Eject" is DISABLED.
5. Launch your SwapMagic disc in and
press UP+L1, then Open PS2 Loader should start.
6. Choose your game and cheats should be on.
samson
02-14-2010, 07:39 AM
Can use codebreaker with just swapmagic i think...
http://sites.google.com/site/psx4ever/ps2
From read me.
This Codebreaker is patched using ffgriever's patch to boot HDL (ps2 loader renamed). readme.txt included with the patch for you to know its search pattern.
HDLoader modification for CB9.2. It will let you launch hdloader (ps2 loader renamed) directly from hdd/usb/mc, without any cd in drive. Searches for file in following order (launches first file found):
hdd0:/__boot/boot.elf
mass:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
mc0:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF
mc1:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
mc1:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF
"?" means region code.
So it go's
1. Codebreaker 9.2 for HDL.ELF rename to SMBOOT0.ELF put in SWAPMAGIC folder (usb)
2. make BOOT folder and put ps2 loader renamed to BOOT.ELF (usb)
3. Copy both folders to mc1
4. Launch your SwapMagic disc and press UP+L1
codebreaker starts - select cheats - start game - cross fingers - ps2 loader starts - select game and start :joyman:
a few cheats :)

The Swap Magic is not blocked on the FW 3.15, nor it should be ever blocked in the future.
To use emulators, just rename the elf of the emulator to something from smboot0 to smboot3, where the number defines on which button the elf is being executed - L1, L2, R1 or R2. The installation of roms depends of the emulator you are using, but it's quite similar, and you should have no problems with it. gliitch is an expert there, so if you get to the point where you can run the emulator but can't load a rom, I'm sure he'll help you. :)

Heh thanks man, hehe. I see you read the posty bout no need for a root key ^^ all we need now is a easier way to run the exploit ^^ at Samson thanks for the friend request :D if you want, you can add me on msn if you like : ) pm if interested
yo yo man. whats the easiest method to launch pgen and snes station emulator, while using the 0.6 open ps2 loader? do I still have to go through all the steps here: http://www.haxnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=5480 ? if so can I just get all my old files from my other harddrive that had the 0.5 installation on it, and just put the ones belonging to that install of the emulators on my new hdd which has 0.6 running on it?
thx
Edit: Can I place the old folders from my old hdd installation (BEDATA-SYSTEM; psxloader; SWAPMAGIC) and just edit the smboot #'s on each file to something other than what my current hdd with 0.6 has ?
Edit 2: Nevermind. I got it. So I put all those old files in, and just renamed the SMBOOT0.elf from there to SMBOOT1 (up+L2). Works sameo sameo.

At dookie, that is correct :D sorry I havnt been around in the forums, been busy with putting Linux on ye MacBook, with out mac, nightmare I tell ya. So if you wanna add mega drive to the list (pgen) just relable it as SMBOOT2.
Should be ok from there, I wonder if they have updated the emus now. To run snes station from USB with games, make sure it's the USB version ^^ not the cd

Ya, thatīs why Iīm waiting for a more stable revision plus having a PAL ps3 the new changes donīt really affect me. Another interesting feature Iīve heard might be implemented is .iso file support when running from SMB. since you donīt have the FAT32 size limit. that will save time and avoid any bad installations that ocassionaly happen with usbutil.
I donīt have my PS2 sdk setup right for ps2loader but if anything I really want is added before an official release I might just take the effort to do that.
the Lukaz tutorial is good but I think your still going to need to make quite a few adjustsments. you should try this. I think somewhere in the thread theres even a precompiled toolchain to download.

IGR & power off are nice but not really needed in a game loader & if you look on google docs

could you reupload/repost the snes/pgen "usb" versions, so I dont have to use all the psxloader files and stuff? (the megaupload post earlier was broken link). it works fine now, but if the Usb version reduces the amount of files I have to actually use, that'd be nice.

Hi Samson,
I used to use USBInsane alot before UsbUtil 2.0. I use USBExtreme alot when installing straight from disc. 2 of the games I had tested with 0.2b, POP Sands of Time and Casper, would only load when installing from usbextreme. wierd. Thanks anyway for the links though. Iīm sure other people can find it useful.
Iīve seen Jimmi posting so maybe heīs feeling better and back in action. Iīm still using ver 0.6 for testing because I donīt want to use revision builds for the compatibilty list. to confusing. when 0.7 comes out then Iīll use that one for the list. I do use the revision Grimlord posted for SMB though.
Iīm not sure but I think there might be an option to not use IGR. A stripped version wouldnīt be bad though. thereīs alot of stuff I donīt use on the ps3.

Hi, dookie11.
the link samson put is for the right emulators but you still need psxloader to run them. Those emus require missing ps2 bios files to run. Unless someone recodes them using homebrew modules as replacements, weīre always going to need psxloader to load up those modules externally.
I donīt know to much about ps2 programming but I do know how to change the modules but the only source code I could find for pgen wouldnīt compile plus it was an older version without usb access.
I did recompile the NES, PVCS(atari2600) and Gameboy emulators to work without psxloader. Also the NES and PVCS emus didnīt work on the ps3s without the EE chip before. I stumbled upon the code that wasnīt working right but that was more luck than programming experience.
if anybody wants those I can post them.

Hereīs a link for the gameboy emulator by KarasQ

hereīs pvcs(atari2600) itīs an older revision though. I have a newer version but I canīt find it.
http://rapidshare.com/files/352609360/pvcs_mc_ps3.rar.html
Thereīs nothing special about booting them. You can just put the elf in the SWAPMAGIC folder, renamed to the SMBOOT#.ELF of your choice.
You can also 1st boot Launch.elf or uLaunch.elf and then boot the emu or elf that you want. thatīs what I do so i donīt have to be changing the elfs inside the swapmagic folder all the time.
Iīm going to have to compile the NES emulator again. Iīll post that and pvcs reloaded as soon as I get a chance.

Ok,
thanks for the source file for the emus. Iīll take a look as soon as a get I chance.
Iīve been using that pre built sdk that you linked.:)
itīs good but it wonīt compile opl :(
It will compile alot of ps2 stuff though. that site has a compilation of apps to download that will compile with that sdk. so itīs good to learn from. Unfortunately getting things to compile can be a big headache because the sdk is also always receiving new revisions and patches. then you never know if older code will compile
Also could opl boot back to swapmagic.elf renamed to BOOT.ELF via the exit path?
Iīm not sure about the swapmagic.elf but it will only work if you have a ps3 with the EE chip. the versions without EE cannot boot elfs from the memcards.
I would of posted on the thread you listed except out of respect for DJ_3Sixty Iīll add it here, even though thread has been inactive.
http://www.haxnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=6858
But most importantly because that thread is for ps2 homebrew that works on the ps3.
Thatīs a great iniative on your part but you posted in the ps2 section. thereīs alot of ps2 homebrew that doesnīt work on the ps3. then thereīs some stuff that works on the ps3s with the EE chip and not on my PAL version or the 80gb ntsc model.
I donīt remeber which version your using. the 80gb ntsc?
anyway if you want you can link those 2 emus but you can just use the normal versions on the ps2. thereīs alot more stuff for the ps2. you can check skapps for most of the stuff.
edit.
Well it seems like I canīt add the GB emu to that thread I posted.

If the threads dead start a new one in the ps3 section for ps2 apps on the ps3 & as for the sdk (i think my pc is missing some files) if someone can upload the files in question. My os is xp pro, but i have a empty 30gig slave in my pc is it worth installing a second os (vista) on that just for a dev enviroment to live, not be C?

Hi Samson,
Iīm using good old WinXP myself. Iīve heard about problems with the SDK running on Vista or ver 7. So now Iīm definately stuck on any advice I can give you. I pretty positive i just unzipped the sdk to C:\ and starting using it without any problems. iīm a newbie myself thatīs why I use the pre-built sdk.
Did you already try installing a sdk on your pc before. If you did maybe thatīs what could be interfering with the prebuilt one? Iīm just grasping at straws though.
Oh ya, I was able to resurrect the old dead ps2 homebrew on the ps3 thread. I still havenīt looked at the source for pgen or snes and I still have to find my NES one.
....and to keep this thread on topic about opl, Iīve added a few more games to the compatibilty list, ver 0.5 and 0.6.
iīll be adding Silent Hill Shattered memories, which I know works and Iīll be testing Hitman 2

@mods
Iīm aware this thread is old, 411 days old, but this is something new.
Hereīs the NES emulator coded with homebrew modules so you donīt have to use psxloader to boot. Just boot directly with SwapMagic or use uLaunch. elf to boot.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/gjhdltalzzy/fceu92_PS3noEE.rar
If the screen is off center just go to the options menu to center it and then save the configuration.
So those two files, I just drop into my SWAPMAGIC folder, and rename them to SMBOOT# and SMBOOT# ? Or do I need to drop it into a psxloader folder?
Also, there was the "usb" versions of snes and pgen you linked me to earlier, and they extracted into folders that had zillions of files... my guess is that they're the sources?? or am I supposed to drop the entire folders into my HDD and rename the elf to SMBOOT# ?
OR... was that message to someone else who's gonna make a "usb" version for us?
CONFUSED :)

you can use swapmagic cd or dvd to run SNES STATION, by
renaming usb_snes_0.2.4 to SMBOOT.ELF (case sensitive)
and put the SMBOOT.ELF into a folder and name that folder to SWAPMAGIC (case sensitive)
and there u go, put swapmagic disc in, and run

Hi, I've tried everything to make my crossover cable work with my ps3, I know it works because in the PS3 os it shows my media servers. but when I go to opl it simply give me a network error. I had to made a bridge between my wireless and Ethernet so I could have acces to Ad-Hoc.
I've tried many things,
I know the PS2SMB is shared because I can acces it by the wireless of another PC
I've tried to change the ip on the Ethernet network card but still dosen't work...
have you any idea what I could try next?
thx

A question - is anyone finding the new IGR updates to be of any interest? I don't care at all for any of them, as I don't use it, but it seems that devs find it to be a priority task. Too bad, to me it feels like the project is dead for some time now. Hope to see some speed and compatibility improvement soon...

Bud i'm a xp user & 2k before that, the hardest thing about that linux vm dev is moving files in & out, and thats just a matter of plugging in a usb drive & clicking on a lil' icon (bottom right) & there is no command involved, you can even D/L the source from within the vm using firefox, give it a go who knows you may like it.. :)
gliitch
03-03-2010, 08:50 AM
With the vm (by vm i think you mean virtual machine) the resources are being split in half so everything will be just that bit slower, also the graphics wont be rendered very well. i found it to be sluggish at times XD id much prefer to use Linux at its full speed without the unpluging of devices : \
samson
03-03-2010, 01:46 PM
The Truth is, its not that bad, takes a while to load/shutdown, taskbar at the top is a bit buggy(flashing) & it is a tiny bit sluggish, but no need to unplug. it does it for you just click the icon bottom right & it disconnects from the host pc & connects to the virtual machine pc, click again to disconnect from the virtual machine ect. even firefox is ok to use.

Nice Theme,
I donīt think Gilgameshīs code is posted anywhere. I think that was his personal additions with only a few people to test it. At 1st it seems some of the other people werenīt to keen on the idea because they were worried it would cause slower loading. Although I think itīs been determined that it doesnīt affect the speed so I wouldnīt be surprised if the icon feature pops up in one of the new revisions. If not I guess you would have to ask Gilgamesh if he wants to share his build.

you should only try the lastest builds, like the rev 239
and you should need a porgram called power defragmenter
and use that on the usb drives/sticks your using, cause the games need too be unfragmented

What gladiator5 said but try 0.6 first as its the most stable, then rev203 & rev204 (before IGR got messed with).
Since they've been screwing with the IGR, a total pointless waste of time for a game loader, if your a gamer(1hour min) & not a lazy opl game tester(5mins to see if the game works) sure its fun for about the first half dozen go's but useless 80% of the time as for most games it needs to be turned off for them to work/load.
Really they should be putting all there efforts into getting games working 100% with no lagg usb & smb, before all these fancy features are added. SORRY BOUT THE RANT
And to contradict myself i found this, looks interesting a opl GUI developement fork by volca i think its rev240,

Hi Samson,
Again many thanks for your assistance, I am asking for your expertise yet again.
You mentioned compiling an elf from source code is a matter of a couple of mouse clicks, is this possible to do with windows as my os (that may be a really stupid question) or do i need Linux installed to carry out the compiling?

Hi again, I have just had a thought (doesn't happen very often i'll grant you), I used to play a couple of NTSC PS2 games and therefore I have a virtual memory card already on my PS3, would this be affecting my attempts to run games (white screen problems explained earlier) in it's current state as i know the earlier versions of loader required you to alter the contents of the virtual memory card? My question is, does anybody know that if I delete this folder off my PS3 then it may cure the problem or am I barking up the wrong tree completely and it makes no difference having this folder?

First off huge thanks to Samson who has taken the time to try and help me out.
Right, here goes, I formatted my sandisk cruzer and defragged my external hd which already had games on, I transferred Tekken 5 onto both and put on 4 versions of the loader onto the cruzer. These were 0.6 Rev239, 0.5, 0.41 and USBLD_0.2b, guess which was the only one to work......yep 0.2b.
I don't know why this is but it loaded Tekken 5 off the cruzer & External HD no problem and it also loaded GT4 off the external (although I didn't try any other loader for GT4 as I ran out of time) Do we know why this may be or is it just coincidence with Tekken 5 and the other loaders should work with other games?

Hi Samson,
Thanks for your pm's, I have a 320gb iomega (LPHD-UP) formatted to fat32.
I was hoping to use 0.7 across the network with a PS2SMB folder as opposed to USB.
I have just realised that I was using the older version of USBUtil and the new version has all the bells and whistles so I will be using that.
If you could perhaps do me an ELF the same as rev240 that supports my HD for me to try I will be very grateful, I realise you are busy so only obviously if you get chance. As I said 0.5 supported it but not 0.6
I will try to do the patching thing with the games that don't work and hope that it gets some results.
Once again, many many thanks.

Sorry buddy not that good yet, but i'd format with this tool for large usb hdd's.
This utility will format any USB flash drive, with your choice of FAT, FAT32, or NTFS partition types. also allows creation of a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB
http://sksapps.com/mis/USB_format_Tool.rar
& start again ripping your games with the latest usbutil but network will be the better option as the speed is a lot faster than usb, i think the ps3 emulates the usb1.1 when in ps2 mode, if someone could confirm this as i'm not 100% sure.
Edit

No one knows that, not even the devs. It will be out when it's out. But in the meantime, you can play with the compiles of the current source code. The 0.7 should not be any different than the latest source at the time of the release, so it's not that important for people that compile and track the development. :)

I am using windows Vista, I have created the PS2SMB folder on my desktop and used USBUtil 2 to transfer the iso's.
I have used rev245 but it just counts down to 1 when I click on network games and sticks there, I have clicked on the share the folder option first so i don't really know what else I have to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure it is me or not, but when I browse to find the USBLD_01.ELF, I find that one of the files is corupted (I am using the long method as is seems to be affecting the short method) I have downloaded the file a few times, wondering if it is corupted if there is something I am missing.

Hi, I post this as to not keep bugging Samson who is swamped in mail.
Can anybody tell me if they have a rev260 or later compiled as an elf that has a network configuration option so i can change the IP details to enable me to connect to the network as I can with rev245?

In that link if you get ubuntu package then get scripts v2, follow instructions in that thread now on ubuntu extract the scripts v2 onto your desktop and use compile both if you want both or if you just want volca then use volca then compile

Tryed patching a few last night & now some more do work but this list is very inaccurate to what games do work, so if it says on the list not working (Ex. armored core 3) try patching it first with usbutil before you start deleting all them games.

Hello, first post. I've been doing this for 5 hours and now all I can do is the easy method described by Pirate, but I get a black screen. I'm actually putting my blackberry into usb mode and it is running off of that. Format is FAT32. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? I downloaded what was in the easy format and followed it 100%, but still nothing outside of a black screen. I read this monster of a thread, but reading at 4 in the morning, Indiana here, doesn't really help with retention. Can someone please guide me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

dont put your games in a folder put them on the root of the drive.
Will this run imported games? I tried it with a game I imported because it was the only game I have small enough to fight on my flash drive and when I try to load it, all I get is a black screen.

does usbadvance delete everything on the usb, or does it copy "around it", like say if i put everything on the usb on one folder (in the usb) and then run the program would it work? and what if the iso is on that very usb?

I think i understand what your asking even if it is a bit confusing.
you mean
media, apps and whatever else in one or a few folders
and the game files on the ROOT of the usb not in a folder or they will not work, then yes.
thats how i have it with a few folders along side of my game files.
it splits the games "iso" up because of the ps2's fat32 1gig file limit.

I read thru the last few pages, but u expect me to read all 96 pages??
The reason I ask, is because I see an HDD column in the OPL menu.
Also, I don't think it would be hard to implement, sice the XMB doesn't let you copy all kinds of files, but if you rename the game files as mp3 or avi, I think it would be possible. Then just program the OPL to read .mp3 or .avi extensions.
Easy :)
Another question:
Did anybody try executing HDLoader or HD Advance on the PS3?
Just asking, as I am about to try it myself.
Update: I just tried executing HDLOADER and I got a Hardware error: Your PS2 system is not compatible. I suspect it's because the PS3 uses a proprietary file system.
But making a PS3 compatible HD Loader would be as easy as just implementing the new file system. Same with the OPL menu.

The MMO that installs in your hard drive?
That's a good idea worth trying..
I don't have it, but I have a US console, so I might give it a try.
I know there are a lot more games in Japan that install in your hdd (Final Fantasy X for example). In US there are only a few games that install in your hdd, but in Japan that feature was implemented in most major releases. It would be nice trying to find out which games so we can see if one of them can do it.

i would like too help you with this
but i have a pal ps3, so i will try the USA version of resident evil, in hope that it works. cause there are no pal games with hdd support.
i found that i have ffx jap on my hdd here so i will try that one too
i downloaded a hdd add on from the jap store. dont know if that matters
i will post the result
Results:
the ffx jap version does not give an option, when loaded though opl on ps3
this is because if the game support the hdd on ps3, the option will be given when the original disc launched from the ps3 xmb
then it will make a partition for ps2 hdd use
so, the pal gamers are already out of luck, cause there are no pal games with hdd support
for the jap and usa users, they need a original disc, too make a ps2 hdd partition on the ps3 hdd

i use usbutil to put my games on my usb hdd, patching options are built into this program , and opl has been built and designed so no patching is required for 90% of the games.
if a game does not work try the compatibility settings in opl, if the game still refuses to play ball , defrag , still no cake then you patch in usbutil, and check if its reported as not working , if it is your out of luck....
you can also try the none working game in opl 0.5 before you wipe it from the drive.

* Go to FILE and click on "OPEN ISO to create game".*
* Search and click on your PS2 backup, and click CREATE.

Would you read the tutorial properly, it clearly states that it runs on 20/60 and the 80GB including the MGS4 bundle and those produced prior.
It will not work on 40GB, EU 80GB, 120GB, or any other versions.

When i said read the thread properly, i meant, it already tells you that it can run on 20,60 and 80GB models including and before the Metal Gear Solid bundle.
Just so your sure, it isnt only special edition 80GB's that it works on,
If you want to check, if your console is a compatiable console or not, check this thread http://www.haxnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=12138
Also if you have an EU 80GB, then that automatically rules your console out of compatibility as they cannot play PS2 games.

the usbloader should still load up even without an iso on the root of the drive, it will just say no games found. You appear to be doing something wrong/have an incompatible usb drive.
