This is a tutorial on how to boot Playstation 2 ISO's on the PS3 via external HDD. The original founder of this method was ifcaro, this tutorial is a step-by-step method on how to get PS2 ISO's to run on your PS3. Original thread can be viewed here (http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=8750). PS3Hax takes no responsibility of damage caused to your PS3 through this method, and all information here is for informational/educational purposes only.

How to play PS2 ISO's on PS3 via USBAdvance (aka USBLD)

YouTube - PS2 backups playing on PS3 via HDD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X3aAbCBDOo)
(Video by idone)

What you need:

Swap Magic 3.6+/3.8(Purchase here (http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Where_To_Buy.asp)or here (http://www.google.com/products?q=swap%20magic&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf)) (Must be actual copy, burned copies do NOT work).
Launch PS3 (20/60gb) - NTSC/Japanese (Must have emotion engine, only launch PS3's had this).
Flash Drive (PSP in USB MODE will also work).

Here is the EASY and suggested method:
Here is the SUPER EASY method to run USB Loader.
1. Create a folder on a compatible USB Device (ie: PSP) called SWAPMAGIC.
2. Place the USBLD_0.2b.elf file (DOWNLOAD HERE: http://www.haxnetwork.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=247) in this folder and rename it SMBOOT0.elf
3. If you are using the same drive to boot the game from place it in the root of the drive.
4. Load Swap Magic with the USB Device in the FIRST USB port.
5. Press UP and L1 and USB Loader should boot.
6. Press X for a PAL console or O for a NTSC console
7. Wait for USB Loader to boot and select your game.

jBDgDpyqh-E

Long, Old method, use if you have issues with easy one.

If you are a Japenesee PS3 user you need to rename the folder BADATA-SYSTEM to BIDATA-SYSTEM -This guide will assume you are a USA user and call the folder "BADATA-SYSTEM" in the download pack.

Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=240).
Extract the contents of the folder USBADVANCE to the root of your flash drive/PSP.
Boot up SWAPMAGIC and once loaded into the menu screen, people who are using swapmagic v3.6 press UP (on D-Pad)+L2 on your PS3 controller to browse through your flash drive. People that are using Swapmagic v3.8 go to the SMBOOT menu and select uLaunch from there. In the pack provided uLaunch is SMBOOT1. Go to configure, select any button you want (I usually use X or O), go to MISC and select FILEBROWSER binding it to the selected button, go down and hit ok. Now go to the browser. (Props to Crono (http://www.ps3hax.net/member.php?u=38818) for telling us how to use v3.8 Swapmagic). If you are unable to view your flash drive, then it is not compatible (use another one).

Copy the BADATA-SYSTEM folder and USBLD_01.ELF file to your Virtual Memory Card (on PS3).
Go inside BADATA-SYSTEM folder and cut/move the Pictures and SWAPMAGIC folder to ROOT the Virtual Memory Card.
Remove your FLASH DRIVE, press the (PS) button and quit the game and go back to XMB and launch swap magic.
At this point you should move the Playstation 2 ISO's of your choice to your external HDD/flash drive. You need to have them properly formmated and copied over via USBExtreme or USBUtil (is included in file you downloaded above). If you are not sure how to do this, there is a quick tutorial that guides you through the process. Make sure your USB/Flash drive is plugged into your PS3.
Once booted, browse and launch USBLD_01.ELF
And there you have it, if you followed this tutorial properly you should see the Playstation 2 ISO's there and just click and launch

How to copy PS2 ISO's to a external USB/flash drive

Method 1

Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=240). (Ignore if you downloaded it in last tutorial), and extract the folder USB EXtreme to you desktop.
Plug in your USB HDD (or Flash drive)
Put a PS2 game into your disc drive (if the game is already on your computer you can mount it with Alcohol 120 (http://www.download.com/Alcohol-120-/3000-2646_4-10158124.html))
Open up the USB EXTREME tool on your compute.
Select your Disc Drive the PS2 game is in, Media type (most are DVD's) and your USB/Flash drive.
Now you can name the game and hit start.
There you have it a properly copied game to your HDD, just pop it in your PS3 and follow step 8 from above.

Method 2 (Easier Method)

Download USButil located here (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=242).
Format your external drive/usb drive to FAT/FAT16/FAT32 format.
In the download pack you downloaded there should be a folder called USBUtil, go inside that and run the EXE.
Go to FILE and click on "OPEN ISO to create game".
Search and click on your PS2 backup, and click CREATE.
The program will now copy the ISO over to your pendrive (it takes some time).

How does this compare for loading speed? Since the PS3 has USB 2.0 ports, does this make use of the extra transfer rate? USBAdvance was pretty sad in comparison to disc loading on the PS2, let alone HDLoader.

so ps3 backups to do this method is impossible? because of the ps3 not yet capable of loading ps3 backups. swap magic ps2 disc? not yet ps3 disc. so the needed services is just for ps2. not ps3. Anyways very nice, at last! final fantasy on ps3! weee!

yes, this will not lead to any ps3 backup loading. this just allows u you to play ps2 backups (with slower loading than just playing the games off a DVD rom) off a USB storage device with very limited compatibility, on a limited version of the ps3 console. i dont see what is so great about it honestly? were no closer to a exploit for "homebrew loaders";) i guess any form of piracy for the ps3 is better than none?

if they could get hdloader working for ps3 and be able to install ISOs to teh internal HDD, then that would be more pratical...just my 2 cents

If only the USB driver would use the 2.0 instead of 1.1.

Wonder if anyone could compile from PS3 linux and port it for PS2, or something to that sort.

oh my god!! what a tool, yes we can play ps2 backups!!

no one wants to play ps2 games on a ps3, go and buy a modded ps2 for this and play your old games with amazing grafix;-)!!!

on a ps3 you have to play ps3 games, thats what is build for, god damn.

have much fun with this tool, i think 1% of ps3 users need this.:thefinger:

@pirate: only ps3 consoles CECHA and CECHB are launch consoles with hardware ps2 compatibility!!! -> http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Model_Differences

chris_redfield

this is only for NTSC PS3's CECHA and CECHB!!!!!!

Yeah i know, i still wanted to see how it works in general. It was my usb stick, which causes Swap Magic to freeze. I dont know why, but i tried another one and it worked until the point where i am supposed to copy the data form the usb stick to the virtual memory card. Every time i try to click on mass: (my usb stick) Swap Magic freezes and i cant do anything. It doesnt load, just nothing happens. Could it be the stick or the problem something else?

I certainly need this. I never had PS2. :)

I use to own one but had a chronic case of DRE so I ended up buy a Xbox instead. Then when XB360 was released I bought one (ended up getting 4 to date) and with the RRoD and other refurbished mishaps with the license for my DLC (this was before the DRM transfer program and they no longer refunded MS points) so I ended up buying a PS3 60GB because I was sick of dealing with the BS.

Best decision ever (on buying a PS3 and BC at that) and now people like chris_redfield is telling me and other people who never really got into PS2 era to not to enjoy PS2 games on the PS3.

Man how time has changed, I remembered back when the PS2 vs Xbox where the xbox had better graphics and all the PS2 people are stating "It's about the games and we have more.. hahaha" while xbox people are saying "We have higher res and have less jaggies and when HD era hits we wouldn't see a eye sore". Now somehow the Sony fanboys are putting down their own people by telling others to stop playing PS2 on the PS3 because it's a eye sore?

Man people like chris_redfield should stop assuming that people don't like to play their older games, because last time I checked it's a friggin game machine and no matter how old a game may be if it's fun then who cares?

Oh and chris_redfield, don't even bother saying just get a PS2 instead (in general not for running backups) because people like me who didn't get a PS2 will have to technically end up paying more because of the added accessories and I hate second hand consoles and accessories unlike games.

One thing I have to say about PC gamers that I respect more than console gamers, they don't put older games down if they can still play it on a future computer/Operating system.

I love games and that's why I have both (gaming PC/consoles).

I just had to say it: +1 man, +1. And the thing is, even I played on consoles, most of my life, I am still playing them at this day. I often find myself playing PSX games nowadays (because I had and still have one :) ). Games. They're not just about graphics. They're about the soul that shines of effort that has been put into them. OK, call me a looney. :)
Either way, I'm sorry for this off topic. Back to waiting for the PAL version...

Q: But my PS3 is backwards compatible, why doesn't this work?
A: It does not work with SOFTWARE EMULATION (which is what your PS3 most likely has). If its not a "launch unit" it will NOT WORK RIGHT NOW.

Can't wait for 80GB support =)

I had this problem too. Boot up Swap Magic,

Press any direction on the Dpad and then to enter Config.

Press again at default and then in the new list go down to 'MISC/' and press

Go down one to 'FileBrowser' and yes press again

Now the old config menu should appear go down to 'Ok' and press

Step 4

At this point you have to make sure 'FileBrowser' text is gray by using Dpad directions and pess when it is gray. Then you'll be able to browse your usb drive. ^^

Read my post above to get the file Browser up, then press ok. You should have more options, (copy R1) and some others, anyway go to where your USB drive is and find BADATA.

press R1 and click copy, then go inside mc0 press paste. Do the same for the USBLD_01.ELF file. Its all in the tutorial. ^^

i have Swap Magic 3 Plus (3.6) and an original launch PS3 from Japan FW 1.10 (it was originally 1.0)

that whole up and L2 thing never seems to do anything, but when i hit the square button for "special boot" while selecting "load program" that always seems to do it when it comes to loading code off a usb stick or PSP. however, on this occasion I haven't gotten anywhere yet. i always get either a black screen or one of those errors that you get when the PS3 seems to detect a disc swap has happened.

I looked at the files in the download here and i noticed there are a few files not included that were mentioned earlier elsewhere. I'm wondering if these files need to be there and if so, where do they go and what files are they? I know there are some proprietary Sony files that cant be distributed freely, so im thinking thats why they arent included. These files would be the USBD.IRX file (which supposedly has to be within a very specific range of versions. I'm wondering how we are supposed to figure out what version it is without using a hex editor, and if someone could just flat out tell us what PS2 game would have the right version of the IRX file for this app so we could just simply get it off that game and know we have the right file) and the other files are I think XMCSERV, XMCMAN, and there may be a couple more like that. Do we need these?

also, for the BADATA-SYSTEM folder, do I need to rename it to BIDATA-SYSTEM because im on a Japan unit? Keep in mind I'm using a J PS2 game to swap into a US Swap Magic disc, so i am a little confused as to whether or not the folder should be named for US or Japan formats.

With 3.8, you just pick "SMBOOT" then "SMBOOT1" and you're in. Then go to Config, and for the Default option, pick "Misc/File Browser", hit OK, then wait for the browser to open.

I've noticed that on FW 2.60 at least, if you have a BADATA-SYSTEM folder on an assigned PS2 memory card, the game will exit back to the XMB immediately after the PS2 logo. I just unassign the MC, boot, then assign it.

Oh, BTW, I'm using a burnt copy of 3.8 (http://rapidshare.com/files/83595856/SWAP_MAGIC_3.8_DVD__CHEATS_CODES.rar) ;P

If you could download swap magic, burn it and play it, swap magic would never exist in the first place.

On the other hand, if you have the right hardware, you could burn it. But that comes at a price.

OK Here are some Swap Magic answers. I may edit this post for corrections.

(1) Swap Magic 3.8 and 3.6 both work

(2)SwapMagic 3.8 may say 3.6 on the cover.

(3)You can burn a copy of Swap Magic, However as it will be a copied disc and the Ps3 can't boot them normally you will have to open the ps3 and swap and original disc once its been detected for your burnt SwapMagic disc.

(4) Your version of Swap Magic needs to be for your region as the Ps2 does not play different region games. (Again opening the Ps3 and swapping can work around this restriction).

(5) The USB Loader so far only works on Jap and US Consoles. If you don't have a Jap or US console with backwards compatibility then it won't work for you. (This may change in the future or it may not).

(6) Once you have SwapMagic booted you can use either LaunchElf or UlaunchElf as your ELF Loader. The first one LaunchElf picks up mass: by itself where as ULaunchElf needs an extra USB.IRX file).

(7) The USB Program will boot on all consoles with BC when installed correctly however it will only detect an external USB device on JAP and US Consoles. If you have followed the instructions you should see the application boot but it will just tell you that it can't detect an external USB device.

Updates will continue.

And I meant it works in that it detects my usb drives and boots the games. I mentioned this in the other thread.

I've been going through my games and making a list of what ones work, don't work, or work with errors. So far all that worked for me have had starting/stopping during the fmv's. I'm guessing that has to do with the usb speed. I believe I read earlier that the driver isn't using usb 2.0.

There is no PAL version released yet.....

I've managed to copy all the files, then instead of booting back up, (which then would lead to the swap magic screen appearing for like two seconds then trying to read the HDD, but dies shortly afterwards.) just scrolled down to the ELF file, but all i get is a black screen which hangs.... Where did you read that they solved it? If they did, then surely someone would of updated this thread.

I know it doesnt work with PAL consoles.
But the only reason is, that the USB hdd cant be found by this version of the USBLoader. ifcaro said, that this might be because the EE chip, but he doesnt know for sure.
You should at least get to run USBLoader, but not be able to detect the USB hdd and load any games. I think DJ3Sixty mentioned he has a PAL console and gets USBLoader running, but the program cant detect the USB hdd.

Perhaps, they will update the USBLoader so it can detect the HDD, then we can boot off the hdd, but for now, if its the EE chip doing the work, im sure they'll find a work around for EU consoles.I've only been signed up for a day or so, so i dont know who DJ3Sixty is :dontknow:

yes, this will not lead to any ps3 backup loading. this just allows u you to play ps2 backups (with slower loading than just playing the games off a DVD rom) off a USB storage device with very limited compatibility, on a limited version of the ps3 console. i dont see what is so great about it honestly? were no closer to a exploit for "homebrew loaders";) i guess any form of piracy for the ps3 is better than none?

if they could get hdloader working for ps3 and be able to install ISOs to teh internal HDD, then that would be more pratical...just my 2 cents

If swap magic or similar is able to get hold of playstation again. Maybe they can work out on region free ps3 (LOL just kidding). But I see if swap magic is to develop for the ps3 is when users needs a full access file manager for the ps3.

PSP = Rapid prototype version of the ps3.

But the question is: What doesnt work?
To even get to the program USB Loader or to load the PS2 isos from an external hard drive?
As far as i read, you should be able to get to the USB Loader wit a PAL console, but the program wont detect any usb devices.

So my question is:
What do i have to do to get to the USB Loader and get rid of this blackscreen as soon as i start Swap Magic?

From what ive read, you can download a iso of swap magic, although it is useless as its pressed over a ps2 disk. if you look at the bottom of the disk, it has rings around it. Probably some sort of copy protection.

But if you had the tools to press one yourself, i don't see why it wouldn't work. Its just easier to go and buy it. :joyman:

Location of irx file and also the version of that file.

I'll quote the guide here and list what I used/did differently. Just to make sure I've got everything correctly I reformatted my flash drive and created a new virtual memory card to test this.

How to play PS2 ISO's on PS3 via USBAdvance (aka USBLD)

What you need:

Swap Magic 3.6+ [Some reports of v3.8 are recorded to work, others have been unsuccessful] (Purchase here (http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Where_To_Buy.asp)or here (http://www.google.com/products?q=swap%20magic&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf))

I've been using Swap Magic 3.8

Launch PS3 (20/60gb) - NTSC/Japanese (Must have emotion engine, only launch PS3's had this) [Note there have been reports that this method works on NTSC BC consoles] .

Mine is a US 60gb console.

Flash Drive (PSP in USB MODE will also work).

I've used a kingston DataTraveler 4gb and a corsair flash voyager 32gb flash drives so far.

Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=240).
Extract the contents of the folder USBADVANCE to the root of your flash drive/PSP.
Boot up SWAPMAGIC and once loaded into the menu screen, press UP (on D-Pad)+L2 on your PS3 controller to browse through your flash drive. If you are unable to view your flash drive, then it is not compatible (use another one).

Since I'm using Swap Magic 3.8 I go to the SMBOOT menu and select uLaunch from there. In the pack provided uLaunch is SMBOOT1. Go to configure, select any button you want (I usually use X or O), go to misc and select filebrowser binding it to the selected button, go down and hit ok. Now go to the browser.

4. Copy the BADATA-SYSTEM folder and USBLD_01.ELF file to your Virtual Memory Card (on PS3).
5. Go inside BADATA-SYSTEM folder and cut/move the Pictures and SWAPMAGIC folder to ROOT the Virtual Memory Card.
6. Remove your FLASH DRIVE, press the (PS) button and quit the game and go back to XMB and launch swap magic.

Though this shouldn't make any difference I just select reset game.

7. At this point you should move the Playstation 2 ISO's of your choice to your external HDD/flash drive. You need to have them properly formmated and copied over via USBExtreme (is included in file you downloaded above). If you are not sure how to do this, there is a quick tutorial that guides you through the process. Make sure your USB/Flash drive is plugged into your PS3.
8. Once booted, browse and launch USBLD_01.ELF
9. And there you have it, if you followed this tutorial properly you should see the Playstation 2 ISO's there and just click and launch

For this part I have a sandisk cruzer micro 4gb that for some reason isn't recognized by Swap Magic but works fine here.

How to copy PS2 ISO's to a external USB/flash drive

Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=240). (Ignore if you downloaded it in last tutorial), and extract the folder USB EXtreme to you desktop.

I've been using USBUtil ver 1.02 (http://sksapps.com/hd/USBUtil_v1.02.zip) mainly because it recognizes flash drives, so I can load directly to the flash drive instead of first to my hard drive.

2. Plug in your USB HDD (or Flash drive)
3. Put a PS2 game into your disc drive (if the game is already on your computer you can mount it with Alcohol 120 (http://www.download.com/Alcohol-120-/3000-2646_4-10158124.html))
4. Open up the USB EXTREME tool on your compute.
5. Select your Disc Drive the PS2 game is in, Media type (most are DVD's) and your USB/Flash drive.
6. Now you can name the game and hit start.

Since I'm using USBUtil ver 1.02 (http://sksapps.com/hd/USBUtil_v1.02.zip) I don't need to mount the backup image unless its not an iso.

7. There you have it a properly copied game to your HDD, just pop it in your PS3 and follow step 8 from above.

No, it won´t work for you or anybody else with the 80gb ntsc model. it also doesn´t work with the 60gb PAL models

I'm having the same issues with pressing up and L2. My swap magic disc is the DVD 3.6+ version. When I press up and L2, nothing happens. I can press X and square to try to boot but swap magic restarts itself once, and if I try to boot from the swap magic menu again, I get the black screen and it kicks me back to the XMB.

Hi there,

There's a point which confuses me. I own a 60 GB PAL PS3 which logically should have the emotion engine (because of the CECHC label on the back), is that right? :hmmmm:

The tutorial says that no PAL PS3 will run ISO's, but I actually don't understand why... Or does the CECHA, CECHB, CECHC, CECHD label only matter on US and Japanese PS3's? :dontknow:

However, I wanted to try it, but unfortunately my PS3 doesn't recognize the copies of Swap Magic 3.6. I burnt both CD and DVD from an ISO file with PowerISO but can't boot any of them. Can anyone tell me why?

Thanks in advance and greetings from Luxembourg! :)

idone,

Ah balls man, things don't look to good for the PAL ps3 then.. although in the thread it did say something about PAL getting some sort of support. Im sure thousands and my myself included, don't wanna be left out in the cold. That said there's been some great progress though :D

Misaer, I think there's a little e(which is its region code) after the CECHC on pal units, yeah it may backwards compatibility but its slightly crippled (plays only 70% of ps2 games.) Anyway the PAL had its EE chip taken out, replaced with software emulation.

I'd imagine it applies to your unit as well. As it's a 60 GB it should have its EE chip in, but it was a miss interpretation 60GB PAL+no EE Chip... =higher compatibility but not full. That's why most 60GB EU owners feel like they have been sold short.

No PAL machine has the EE.

The author of this said they'd try to get it to work on PAL machine, but in this thread, stated it's pretty much impossible.

So basicly, either someone reverse engineers the USB Loader software or makes one
of their own.

Mikkuru, how hard would it be to reverse engineer the USB loader? As its a home-brewed piece of software, theres gotta be some chance, surely?

Mikkuru
01-24-2009, 08:53 PM
Hard if not nearly impossible. I'd say the later.
Someone who allready knows PS2 well could and should build a team at PS2 dev
to make their own USB Loader or so I think.

Note:
No, you'r high school coding wont cut it, so don't volunteer.
No, if you know slightly jave/C etc, you won't cut it.
No, if you don't know Linux or PS2 architechture, you won't cut it.
No, you won't learn it over night.

Bottom line, if you fall to the above categories, don't go bothering the good
folks at ps2dev.

when are we going to get this for the 40gig usa

Hobson
01-25-2009, 12:12 AM
217zombie101,

At the very least the method they use for this will require some form of being able to play PS2 games. The 40gb model can not load any PS2 disc, meaning loading swap magic is not possible. But it'll be exciting to see this move onto the PS3's without the EE chip, keep up the good work

thedoginthewok
01-25-2009, 04:48 AM
when are we going to get this for the 40gig usa

Like Hobson already said, this will NEVER happen.

But there is a extremely little chance that it could happen:
If the PS3 will be hacked one day, and PS2 Emulation will be made possible on 40GB PS3s than it could be possible, but in case the PS3 is hacked we dont need any PS2 Programs anymore :-D

Glad I'm not the only one. Yea I sorta went out of topic lol but people like that really piss me off sometimes.

Hey Pelu, finally managed to get past the Buscando part, you just need to make a BEDATA-SYSTEM(mc0) folder and put the .IRX file in there, then boot up the ELF. at least this way you'll see the USB LOADER. I tried a fat-32 usb but nothing came up ..progress at least ^^

04 is just the region code, sounds to me like thats a launch console, we just have to wait a bit longer until someone figures out how to make backups work on a pal. Is yours 60 or 40GB
grimlord?

grimlord
01-25-2009, 07:52 PM
It's 60 gb. I understand it does not work on PAL consoles, but in this FAQ it sez it works on "CECHC" consoles. Does that mean on all CECHC consoles except the PAL ones?
How is it possible that I have a launch console? I bought it a year ago. Or it doesn't matter when I bought it? :) Does CECHC04 means my PS3 has EE? I thought it was emulated on all EUR 60 GB models...
Oh and, I am wondering is it 100% safe to update to the latest firmware?

gliitch
01-25-2009, 08:41 PM
I have the latest firmware installed which is 2.60(but check with the mods to see if its safe) more then likely it is. I can bring up the usb loader.

It is emulated in all PAL ps3's.
It doesn't matter when you bought i don't think that is an issue.
04 is an EU one which doesn't have the EE Chip in them.

Have you tried loading the USBloader?

Hope this helps

i got it to work finally , on USA PS3 60gb using (SanDisk - Cruzer Micro 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive) & Magic Swap 3.6
i formatted my flashdrive to fat32
i renamed the volume of my flashdrive to local disk

used the usb extreme software to copy & convert my ps2 disk that i wanted to backup and made a copy of it to C:/
once it was done i moved the three files from C:/ to my flash drive

then i booted up swap magic 3.6 dvd

i ran usbadvance from off of my internal ps3 memory card

once loaded i just connected my flashdrive and my game showed up on the game list

pressed start

my screen turned black then some writting appreard after that the screen turned black again for like 6 mintues then my game loaded

i tested the game x-men next dimension the loading time is very long and the cut scenes are choppy but game play was normal

My Tutorial 4 you!

First i have formatted my USB-Stick or any other Memory Stick in Fat32 Format...then i putted all of the Files from the tutorial above on my Memory Stick, but before i put in the MS into my PS3 to boot SwapMagic, i renamed the BADATA-SYSTEM (Folder) to BEDATA-SYSTEM.
I also put the Hermes psxloader (download it from here (http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid=14534) on it (on the root from MS) and then i start SwapMagic and follow the Steps of the Tutorial from Pirate...
but in distinction to the step where to start the USBLD_01.ELF (put the ELF FILE in the psxloader-folder!) i started the psxloader.elf and in the Main Menu i pressed Select and choose the USB-Option "E" and then start the USBL_01.ELF and your Stick and all Games on it should shown on the USBADVANCED-MENU...

here's what i found:
download the emulator files for snes+pgen, extract all the files to the root of the hdd.

so you should have:BEDATA-SYSTEM, USBD_IRX, SWAPMAGIC and PSXLOADER all at the ROOT of your hdd.

Copy USBLD_ELF straight into the PSXFOLDER. (grab this file from the download Pirate posted)

In (mc0)make a new BEDATA-SYSTEM

Copy the USBD_IRX file into BEDATA-SYSTEM

reboot swap magic, then press UP+L1

You should see the USBLD_.ELF.
Press SELECT and make sure option E is chosen.

It will boot up, you'll see the games show up as well as the hdd being recognized.

should be ok now, still cant load the iso's as it comes up with a black screen.

This method is so much easier then installing switches. I have already ordered my swap magic disc. I wonder since Sony has seemed to have abandoned backwards compatibility will they patch this. well i ordered it so oh well =D will play around with it tomorrow when it comes.

@ Cruisx Hehe, Great stuff. From what i gather, everyone gets a black screen for loading ISO's atm. But thats now been fixed. We are still waiting on the fix though. :P

you have to convert your iso with the USBExtreme software to c:/

after its converted you'll see some files that start with ul.

take those files and transfer them to your usb flashdrive

Ive also transfered them to the root of my usb, i also have the ul.CFG file too :S its not working for you because you have a pal ps3 and as far as i know this doesnt work with pal. also pal 60 gb ps3's dont have the emotions engine chip that could be another reason why it doesnt work....

I don't own ff12 so im not at liberty to say, but i presume everything will be sorted.
Do you own a pal ps3 as well then. I think they lagging issue will depend on what speed the USB loader will run at, as it should run at 2.0 it should be a ok. dont quote me on it though :P

hold on a second. everything running in ps2mode is still using usb 1.1 drivers. so this is going to run as it would on the ps2.
no one knows if you can use usb 2.0 in ps2mode on the ps3 because there are no 2.0 usbd.irxs.
Maybe now with the loader some coder might have the incentive to see if they can make it possible.

gliitch
01-26-2009, 10:25 PM
Yeah perhaps, anything is pretty much possible. But they said that 1.1 doesn't handle fmv's very well so they might speed it up. Just one other thing, now that we are pretty much there with the ps2 iso loading, could we load the ps1 games off the hdd as well?

I know well usbextreme because i use it in the past to play games on ps2 to save lens from broken.

for play ps2 game on ps3 you've not only make the correct procedure of this post but you've to integrate some tricks also on the games , instead you get black screen.

i explain it better.

If you have original games like me , with any disc tools, make an ISO of it.
With a tools such as Ultraiso scannig all the iso you've to find 2 files DNAS (not always present) e IOPRPxxx (pay attention can be more than one of the same files DNAS and IOPRP).

Then you have to replace them with other of the same version of other working games.

ES.

Dragon ball z budokai 2 doesn't run ....has IOPR280 and no DNAS
you can take it, for example from another game that works perfectly that contain the same IOPR280 copy it and replacing the one in the iso of DBZ.

After that save the new iso and then finally with USBextreme copy it on usb hd...this time game starts!
Xmen games works to first shoot

there was a site where a year ago i post patch for very game i buy
http://jaydium.servehttp.com/usbextreme/gamelist.php
but it seems that is no longer available.

If someone know another site like this post it here

i can confirm that if loader doesn't use 2.0 speed usb, it will have audio and video choppy on presentation but gameplay isn't affected.

i have a ps3 60gb PAL, in this weekend i try if works.

If anyone remembers from before that you had to patch the iso to work online. Does this method of patching the DNAS still work even if the iso is running from a USB hdd? Also does anyone know of a good adapter to use for my ps2 guitar hero controller? Guitar hero is the main reason I want to do this, because I have so many different versions of guitar hero 2. Also since this now works with PAL units does it also work with NTSC units that lack the emotion engine? I have an original 60 but I have a friend that would luv to use this method on his BC ntsc 80 gig.

Dnas/Ioprp patching is necessary only if you use your game on HD with USBextreme
Regarding Dnas it's a file that concerning online play, but i haven't veryfied it because i havent't used ps2 for online play....so i don't know.

if Guitar Hero adapter has the same form of wired joypad, you can try some adapters Ps2-->Usb for use it with ps3.....also if you've to check if game recognize it on a USB

I buy one for use ps2 joypad on Ps3 for play with a friend at Resistance Fall of Man.

hope this help

Really the best adapter your going to find for PS2 GH guitars to PS3 is the TAC Converter......It's available at most EB Games and Gamestops. Or is available online......just google "The Ant Commander. There are a few little issues with this specific converter for playing on the PS3 but at the moment its the best on the market

If people are getting slow copy rates with USB Extreme, go to your USB HDD, click properties, Hardware, and select your disk. Then click properties again and select Polices, select Optimize for performance Your disk will receive the iso ALOT quicker.

Hmm.. it seems that its region locked ie PAL ps3's only play PAL games :(

hmm, the games you might be trying might not work with usb loader because I´ve launched a few NTSC games on my Pal console. so far I´ve only tried cd or dvd rips but I don´t see how it should make a difference with dvd images.
I just thought of something. are you using a SDTV. then ya, without RGB cables you might have a problem with different region games if your tv doesn´t support NTSC.

mrkrud
01-27-2009, 06:03 PM
yes that's what is happening

gliitch
01-27-2009, 06:18 PM
@ mrkrud Delete your current ps2 memory card and make a new one..

here's what i found:
download the emulator files for snes+pgen, extract all the files to the root of the hdd.

so you should have:BEDATA-SYSTEM, USBD_IRX, SWAPMAGIC in the ROOT of your hdd.

In (mc0)make a new BEDATA-SYSTEM

Copy the USBD_IRX file into BEDATA-SYSTEM

reboot swap magic, then press UP+L1

You should see the USBLD.2_.ELF.(you can download this at the front of the site) Go to file system and you should see the USBD02.elf

It will boot up, you'll see the games show up as well as the hdd being recognized.
