This is a tutorial on how to boot Playstation 2 ISO's on the PS3 via external HDD. The original founder of this method was ifcaro, this tutorial is a step-by-step method on how to get PS2 ISO's to run on your PS3. How to play PS2 ISO's on PS3 via USBAdvance (for PAL SYSTEMS ONLY)

What you need:


Swap Magic 3.6+/3.8(Purchase here (http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Where_To_Buy.asp)or here (http://www.google.com/products?q=swap%20magic&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf)) (Must be actual copy, burned copies do NOT work).
20/60 GB PS3
Flash Drive (PSP in USB MODE will also work).

Here is the EASY and suggested method:
Here is the SUPER EASY method to run USB Loader.
1. Create a folder on a compatible USB Device (ie: PSP) called SWAPMAGIC.
2. Place the USBLD_0.2b.elf file (DOWNLOAD HERE: http://www.haxnetwork.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=247) in this folder and rename it SMBOOT0.elf
3. If you are using the same drive to boot the game from place it in the root of the drive.
4. Load Swap Magic with the USB Device in the FIRST USB port.
5. Press UP and L1 and USB Loader should boot.
6. Press X for a PAL console or O for a NTSC console
7. Wait for USB Loader to boot and select your game.

Below is the long method if you are having problems:
Download the USBAdvance Tutorial File Pack [PAL] (http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=242).
Extract the contents of the folder USBADVANCE to the root of your flash drive.
Place the Playstation 2 ISO's of your choice to your external HDD/flash drive. You need to have them properly formmated and copied over via USBUtil(is included in file you downloaded above). If you are not sure how to do this, there is a quick tutorial that guides you through the process. Make sure your USB/Flash drive is plugged into your PS3.
Boot up SWAPMAGIC and once loaded into the menu screen, people who are using swapmagic v3.6 press UP (on D-Pad)+L2 on your PS3 controller to browse through your flash drive. People that are using Swapmagic v3.8 go to the SMBOOT menu and select uLaunch from there. In the pack provided uLaunch is SMBOOT1. Go to configure, select any button you want (I usually use X or O), go to MISC and select FILEBROWSER binding it to the selected button, go down and hit ok. Now go to the browser. (Props to Crono (http://www.ps3hax.net/member.php?u=38818) for telling us how to use v3.8 Swapmagic). If you are unable to view your flash drive, then it is not compatible (use another one).
USB Loader should start running now. And there you have it, if you followed this tutorial properly you should see the Playstation 2 ISO's there and just click and launch

Copying backups to your USB Drive
Format your external drive/usb drive to FAT/FAT16/FAT32 format.
In the download pack you downloaded there should be a folder called USBUtil, go inside that and run the EXE.
Go to FILE and click on "OPEN ISO to create game".
Search and click on your PS2 backup, and click CREATE.
The program will now copy the ISO over to your pendrive (it takes some time).

Q: Does this work on my 80GB PAL System?
A: No

Q: Does this work on my 40GB PAL/NTSC/JAP, NTSC 80GBs after the MGS4 bundle or my 80GB/160GB PAL System? And will it ever?

The FAQ says this will not work on PS3's without emotion engine... this was on the original version of Ifcaro's USBLD.

USBLD_0.2b does work with PS3's that run PS2 games with software emulation.

Same mistake is on the NTSC/JAP tutorial thread, I guess.

I'm having difficulty trying to run Manhunt 2 PAL Uncut (2.43GB) on my PAL 60GB console.

I just get a black screen with no attempts made at reading from the memory stick in my PSP.

That list is not for this actual method of usb booting, its for usb extreme/advance on the ps2, with the old method. There are some games working on the ps2 that don't work on PS3 with this new Ifcaro method, and vice versa.

We have to make a new list, just for ps3

Few thoughts:

The tutorial says to press Up + L2. The correct method is Up + R1, since it's SMBOOT2.ELF. Or at least, that's what I had to do after getting it. I also didn't find 0.2b in the file, I had to google it.

Also, if you have save games on your PS2 you want to transfer, but you have no memory card adapter to turn it into .psv, you don't need one.

Use uLaunch on the PS2, then copy the whole folder of the game you want. Copy it onto the USB obviously. Then simply launch uLaunch on the PS3 and copy it into the virtual memory card. I tried this with Atelier Iris and it worked perfectly.

Anybody know if it's using USB 2.0 yet? Speed could use some work.

Also, these are the games I've tested on PAL with 0.2b.

Atelier Iris: Works, but I think it froze trying to start a new game.
Ar Tonelico 2: Black screen
Tales of Legendia: Intro works - I won the first battle, background was a bit funky, second was funky too. Also, map overworld is a bit funky here and there. Still, it may be playable if you really want to. I saved it after Shirley gets kidnapped.

There is no way to run the games in 1080p, because it is using the backwards compatibility mode of the PS3. This means any access to the PS3 side is cut off, so what you can do with normal PS2 BC mode is what you can do with this.

Unless somebody comes up with a new way to boot ELF's on a PS3, there is no way to boot this by any means other than Swap Magic 3.6 or 3.8.

i think your usb-stick will not be recognized...

i have tried 5!! Sticks until i get one running with swap magic 3.6


Also the tutorial i think its not really correctly... but try on your own...

i got it working with 0.2b usbloader and without a vmc... but i think the trick is to find a stick which is recognized by swap-magic... (or you got a psp in usb-mode this should work 100%)

The Stick i used is a old 512 MB Vertatim Stick.. it blinks blue (USB 2.0 Mode) when i stick it in the PS3 and if i load Swap-Magic 3.6 it turns red (USB 1.1)... its the only stick working for the moment for me...


if someone has tested putting the usb-loader directly to the external hdd and got it working pleasse feel free to post :-)

this happens with EVERY game, all the FMV's skip and jump, but the games should play fine, it is all to do with the USB 1.1 read speed, nothing more.

Also the tutorial i think its not really correctly... but try on your own...

If u can get USB Loader to boot then all u have to do is this:
during the opening video of USB Loader plug ur USB HDD into port 2 of the ps3 and it SHOULD see it, u will be booting the games from the hdd and loading USB Loader of ur memory stick. i have tested this and it DOES work. i used my psp to boot USB Loader and my external hdd, that swap magic doesnt see, to run the games from.

it didnt work for me with the usb_loader 0.2b.. i have fixed it this way:

there is no need to have the USBD.irx file anymore, USBLD_0.2b runs without it, it is all in the read me files and change log for it. the only file u need is the elf file, renamed, in the SWAPMAGIC folder.

but if u got it working then great, but just TRY removing the BEDATA-SYSTEM folder and running it again, it will more than likely work with out it.

the ONLT folder i have on the memory stick is SWAPMAGIC.

I think its because the PS2 only had USB 1 and the PS3 emulates only 1 so it's more compatible

I just got my Swap Magic 3.8 discs, and i got my USB stick ready with the book files and such.
I start up Swap Magic and then choose boot1, i get to a black screen taht tells me

(translated with google since my spanish is a bit rusty :P)

Looks like in DOS or soemthing, i have put 2 folders on the USB Stick, SWAPMAGIC and BEDATA-SYSTEM, both from the file provided in the first thread.

there will be NO WAY to use USB 2 for this as the PS3 is running in PS2 mode, and there is NO ACCESS to any of the PS3 side of things. it is a shame, but almost ALL the games that work play fine, its is only the FMV that have any problems.

Im sorry, but i just cant understand this, either im just plain stupid or something...

I get as far as to the Elf loader on the PS3, and i cant browse my USB Stick... BUT, When i try to run any of the SMBOOT0/1 i get error messages, the 1 in spanish saying that it cant find the USBd.IPX , and the SMBOOT0 in english saying it cant load USBD.IRX...

My USBD.IRX IS in the Root folder of my USB Stick, and it is the one that i downloaded here, that was included in the pack...

I tried moving it around, into swapmagic folder and so on, but i always get the same error message...

this would be because ur USB device is not compatable with Swap Magic.


I got the file called USBD.IRX

u dont need this anymore, altho some reports are coming thru that USBLoader 0.2b has some limitations of the games it can play, see the compatible games thread for more details on this!

i got a maxtor 300GB... i think its not the HDD... its the usb-adaptler you connect your hdd with.. the hdd have to be formatted with FAT32-Filesystem and the usb-adapter have to be real usb 1.1 compatible...

your adapter has to change this at its own.. i think you cant change the mode of an adapter... i got a "concept usb 2.0 adapter" and it works with the maxtor 300GB HDD... but i have swapmagic 3.6+ maybe thats the difference?

i have been using my PSP to boot USBLoader from, and i am using V0.2b

make sure u ONLY have one device plugged in when u load swap magic, it doesnt like more than 1 device at a time, also make sure u dont pull the device u r loading usbloader from too early or it wont have time to load all the code. i have found that even if u wait till u r at the game screen u can still remove the first device and plug in the second and it will find the games!

that worked a treat thanks, only problem i have now is i can't get the games to boot, what is the max file size on a fat32 hard drive?

edit: also how can i get the files i need to boot on a virtual memory card save? instead of using my psp each time i want to play a psp game.

i tried this but my external hard drive does not show in the usb advance menu, this is what i do.

i load up swap magic, press the PS button, press UP and L2, press X to choose PAL, when the usb shows on screen plug the external into slot 2 usb, wile the psp is still in usb mode in slot 1, when the menu appears nothing shows up, it just says "no compatible ps2 backup found" i exit usb mode on the psp and plug the external into slot 1 and it says "no compatible usb device found"

i really wish there was a way to use my external, i am going to try putting the game on the psp but i would really like to be able to use my external instead as it has more room, anyone please help me out here as i've spent all day trying to get this thing to work and it's doing my head in so far, imo it's faster to just use my chipped ps2 instead lol

edit: also how can i get the files i need to boot on a virtual memory card save? instead of using my psp each time i want to play a psp game.

The max File size on FAT32 is 4 GB.. but if you use the Tool to put the isos on the hdd you will never get over it...

usb-loader did not recognize the iso-file "as they are" you have to "convert" it with usbutil 1.02 (its the actual one)...

don't worry i have found out in the other topic that i can't use a external hard drive yet because i am a pal user, only american ps3s can so far, it's not fair, and yeah i used the utility to convert them to a file the program reads, it doesn't matter now though, i'm stuck using my psp for now until we are able to use externals (whenever that will be)

there was other users in the topic that had the same problem, it also said in the topic that pal users cannot load from a external at all until there is a update to the program, i have a 3.5" 160gb external and no matter what i do i can't get the program to recognise it (it only recognise my psp slim), i would really appreciate it if you could tell me what steps you took to get it to work please, and yes i am using the latest USBLD_0.2b

all u need is a USB Device that is compatible with Swap Magic, a folder on the USB Device called SWAPMAGIC and the USBLD_0.2b.elf file renamed to SMBOOT0.elf and ur away.

i got it, i wound up just using the newest Ulaunch elf & renaming it to SMBOOT3.elf, then one @ the load prog screen,m hit Up+R2 (or R1) & it loaded ULe, & i copied my files to the VMC, so im all good now......only issue i have now is, i was origannly thinking i could take me drive outta my ps2, hook it up to a usb & then load from that.....well apparently the File sturcture of the Internal IDe drive for my ps2 & the Files structure of the/a USB device are differnt....so now i have to pull all my hombrew stuff off my ps2 HD, load it all on my comp, then use another dirve that is setup with the USB file structre & put them all on it, & i will be able to play all of my Japan imports....man i cant wait

u have to convert them all at the same time, then u will get 1 config file with all the games in.

i convert cames seperatly, then put the minto a folder with the game name, then when i wanna play one i just pop the game files and the config file onto my usb drive and play it.

Is it somehow possible to play an NTSC game in PAL mode? Because I have an old TV in my room, so now when I brought PS3 here, I can't play NTSC games cuz of the flickering screen.

I get USBD.IRX error, i have 60 GB PAL PS3, i tried both the EASY and SUPER EASY method and i keep getting that error. It says i have to put USBD.IRX in the B?DATA-SYSTEM, doing a search on google i found that the "?" in B?DATA should be the letter for the region, in my case, europe -> BEDATA-SYSTEM. What did i do wrong?

If you use version 0.2b, you shouldn´t get that error.
Since you do have the BEDATA-SYSTEM folder on the vmc, you shouldn´t be getting that error with version 0.2 either, unless you forgot to assign the mc to slot 1(mc:0) or the usbd.irx is not supported.
anyway, ver 0.2b runs without any folders on the vmc.

While your in the XMB, you have to make a vmc, virtual memorycard, and assign it to slot one. your going to have to do this anyway if you want any game saves but just use usb loader 0.2b once you´ve made the vmc.

I picked my 1 GB usb pen.
Created folder called SWAPMAGIC, then put file usbld02_b.elf into folder.

Connect usb to port 0 in PS3, start swap magic DVD, UP+L1 also UP+R2 and i got the mentioned error with ..IRX

^ Err... it should be like this: On pen you put 2 folders. One is BEDATA-SYSTEM with USBD.IRX in it, and other is SWAPMAGIC with 2 files - SMBOOT0.ELF and SMBOOT2.ELF. I believe you did not put the first folder at all. And usbld02.b.elf should also be renamed, as I said, in the SWAPMAGIC folder.

i've tried alot since i got my Swap Magic discs and i'm totally desperate. I found out that only my 128 MB usb stick is compatible with the SM disc. I use the usbld_02b.elf and run it. Then im in the window of usbld and to find my game i must pull the stick out and then there is visible my hdd where my game stays.ok. then i pull the stick in and want to start the game but then theres the problem. there a a few lines in spanish loading sth and then there's a blckscreen. I've tried this with copiing games myself or an downloaded iso but nothing works. the games are on the list under the header of is compatible. So what i'm doing wrong.

So maybe s.o. could help me, thx

if u have a PAL 60gb console, and Swap Magic 3.6 then all u need to download is USB Loader 0.2b

smboot1.elf = up+L2, smboot2.elf= up +L1, Smboot3.elf = up+R1 ( i thnk) Smboot4.elf = up+R2 (once again i think, 3 & 4 might be switched)

also if u only have 1 file in the swapmagic directory on ur USB it can be named any of those 4 ^^^^or you can just rename it to SWAPMAGIC.elf & the key stroke to load it is up+L1...........


side note.....

for some reason loading the Old Ulaunch (3.1 i think the one that come with the pack) i am able to view my usb drive. howevr, if i try to launch the newest Ulaunch 4.39 or 69 (cant rember) it will go to it, but no files are there.....i have the 3 .irx files in ALL the loactions on the usb drive (USB, USBFSHD, USBMAss) but it freezes sometimes...i even configured uluanch to load each one of those files, but no go......anyone know why?

i tried 5 USB-Sticks... the last one (an old Verbatim 512 MB Stick) is the only one recognized by Swapmagic 3.6+ ...

its tricky but it works...

You have to make this folder on the stick

SWAPMAGIC

in this folder put usbloader0.2b and rename it SMBOOT0.ELF

Put in the Stick, Boot SW and press UP+L1 . Then the USBloader0.2b should load... if not.. try another stick..

Swapmagic is very strange in recognizing the sticks... Best Change is to try old ones which are in USB 1.1 Only ...

I am finding the same problem. Maybe it's the games I'm trying or maybe it's the method I use to create ISO?

Can anyone confirm the best way to make ISO from the original game disc?

At the moment my setup is:-

PAL UK 60GB PS3 CECHC03
SWAP MAGIC 3.8 CODER
USBLOADER 2.0b (just rename to SMBOOT0.ELF)

I use MagicISO to open the disc then jsut save as ISO, then use USBUtil to transfer them to my USB HDD

I can boot to usb loader okay (but i must use my psp, as it gives black screen from my usb hdd)

once at usb loader, my usb hdd is recognised, games listed, but none run.....i get the white spanish text at the top for a second, then it goes black, and stays black...i leave games for about 5 or 10 minutes before i give up.

is it just my hdd at fault, or maybe the games?

i put the Games on my external 300GB HDD... have to put out the usb-stick.. then after 2 seconds the usbloader scans the usb-hdd and shows the list...

then you can put back the usb-stick in cause the games dont load if the stick is not present...

i have tried 8 games for now and 6 of them running... also a ntsc game... it runs on my pal machine ;-)

i also see the spanish lines but then the usb-hdd is in action and the games are loading.. dont try anygame with a movie in the beginning... usb1.1 is to slow for the movies..

GT4 works fine for me.. Did you use usbutil to convert the isos in the right format?

And put the files on the root of the usb hdd.. in a folder it dont work for me...

yes, i've done everything as it should be done.

what is really confusing me now....

...i have 2 games working.

ICO - runs perfectly, even video's run almost without flaw.

A Dog's Life - runs well, but all videos suffer severe stutter

however, other games, even ones listed as compatible (e.g. gran turismo 4), don't work.

in the case of GT4, it boots to the warning about manufacturers and locations may not represent the real things etc etc......but then it just goes to a blackscreen.

how can some games boot fine from this hdd, and other not?

I have tried several methods and all rsult in the same outcome.

I have found the best method for booting to be:-

Use my PSP with swapmagic\smboot0.elf to get to usb loader. then when i see the press x for PAL, o for NTSC option, switch to my hard drive (which also contains swapmagic\smboot0.elf) with my iso's on.

then it's all done through usb port 1, and the games that work, boot up fine.

any ideas why i can't get other compatible games to work?

Ok great, with the method of Gloris the Game could be started till the first vid sequence. Then after a few pics it freezes. But its a progress. Thx for the hint. I just try other games now.

PS: The screen freezes also in game. The sound goes on but screen freezes and cant go on.

Anyone know what my problem is? Everything's up and running (I used the super easy guide), USBLoader loads, I choose the iso, it boots it like in the video (The white texts flash in the upper part of the screen), then it just stops there. The ISO is working, I can play it with a PC-base emulator, but somehow it just won't start on my 60gb PS3 PAL launch unit... The game I'm trying to run is Persona 4 NTSC, but it should works since Swap Magic can manage that, right?

I have found the best method for booting to be:-

Use my PSP with swapmagic\smboot0.elf to get to usb loader. then when i see the press x for PAL, o for NTSC option, switch to my hard drive (which also contains swapmagic\smboot0.elf) with my iso's on.

then it's all done through usb port 1, and the games that work, boot up fine.

edit: that doesn't work either :( i'm going to get swap magic 3.8 coder soon and see if that helps, i currently have swap magic 3.6 +

hi i had the same problems but now the games work till one that freeze. But 2 of 3 works fine. I had irx data on my ms0. Dont think its necessary but i had it because of other emus. Then you have to have the dir SWAPMAGIC with same elf data like on the stick and same nr(i mean f.e. SMBOOT0). And if you are on the screen where you choose pal or ntsc you put in the hdd with game on root. When it isnt available on usbloader stick it it in usbslot2 maybe then. And if you wait 30 sec or so my games start all. Not always but try it again.

I hope it works now for you. I have also SW 3.6+

honestly, i think that perhaps the compatibility of a game depends on too many factors to create a reliable compatibility list at the moment.

it will depend, it seems, on your model ps3, your make/model usb stick/external hdd, the quality of your source iso/disc, etc etc......

i've kinda given up on it for now, since i even get some games that will sometimes freeze and soemtimes boot.

best thing we can do it try and see what games work well for us individually, and just use those until a more compatible loader is released?

Hi everyone

Im seriously going mad here ! Ive followed the guide at the start of this thread and also tried the new easy method with just the swap magic folder. Im using my 60gb launch console on firmwire 2.6 and a swapmagic 3.8 and also using my PSP. Ive read on here a post by SypherZ who also had the same problem but manged to fix it.

When I load swap magic 3.8 I then go to SMBOOT and then select SMBOOT1, I then get a sceen with some spanish writing on it and it looks a little like DOS. Ive tried everything and im sure there is a simple solution but at the moment I cant see it. Any help please would be greatly received.

Ya, if your using 0.2b, you don´t need anything else in the SWAPMAGIC folder or vmc.

First, yes you can play NTSC Games on a PAL system. I have DMC1 and it works.

Second, i found out that only self made isos works with me. I downloaded 6 and they all freeze in the game after a few sequences. But the isos that i made by myself on pc from original disc work. Can anybody other confirm that? Or do i only have this problem with downloaded isos?

Hey guys, new here this is my first post, great site very informative keep up the good work.
Been playing around with this for a while and i got it working with a Western digital drive in a USB enclosure. I used the quick method (usbld2.0b.elf renamed to SMBOOT0.elf in a SWAPMAGIC dir) and booted from Swapmagic 3.8.
Also i found with 3.8 you have to choose smboot from the menu as the up and L1, L2, R2 or CP3PO dont work.

You should've done some research before buying Swap Magic
Swap magic isn't the only PS2 disc there is, you should know if your PS3 supports PS2 discs or not

Can somebody help me please... I did exactly as it is shown here (i have a PAL 60gb PS3) and i get to the point where i can see games in USB loader. So I select the game and start it, but it wont boot up. Its Castlevania Lament of Innocence and I found it compatible with USB loader (version RC1 v.03). When I start the game I can see ''loading please wait'' and than the screen goes black. The PS3 seems to be working hard but after about 15 min and still nothing...

What should I do?

Privet BurniN-SnikerS,this method dosnt work for PS1 games,though there are other ways to play PS1 backups,in which it consists of opening up your console,not really worth it for a PS1 game,there are also other options,like playing the games on your computer via an emulator.

Yes you can load from the same drive. I loaded mine from the same external HDD. Just place the game at the root of the Drive. Where when you double clicked on the icon and it pop up. Eg: drive I:/ABC/
that is not the root. but I:/ is the root.

Since SM and usbloader do not use the same usb drivers there can be incompatibilities. Usually it´s the other way around. compatible with usbloader but not SM. What he said, my Trancend 2Gb stick doesn't detect by swapmagic 3.8. But my 40G hdd is sometimes detected and sometimes doesn't. The only Drive that work 98% of the time is my Seagate 60G from my PS3 60G PAL. Repaced it with a 500G drive though. So i boot everything from one HDD. So far got about 14 Game titles worked on it.

I have a Swap Magic 3.8 CODER. The USBADVANCE boots without a problem off of my PSP's Memstick Pro. When I switch the USB from my PSP to my iomega hard drive (all happening in port one, here), USBADVANCE seems to recognize the hard drive, and it's capacity. It will even offer to format the drive if I select "Format". I have a Swap Magic 3.8 CODER. The USBADVANCE boots without a problem off of my PSP's Memstick Pro. When I switch the USB from my PSP to my iomega hard drive (all happening in port one, here), USBADVANCE seems to recognize the hard drive, and it's capacity. It will even offer to format the drive if I select "Format". Your game may be not compatible with the USBUtil. Which version are u using? USButil1.02 or USBUtil2.0? Title of the game? Beside you can't put the raw ISO file at the root of your HDD. It will have to be transfer using USBUtil to convert into a format where it will recognise. Use the USbutil2 or 1.02 to tranfer, File-> import ISO file, locate your ISO file then "CREATE" it will importing the game in partials of 1GB maximum each pieces, If the game has the right setting or compatible then it should say 100% 1/1 close. Else it will say something like this" Missing SYSTEM.. file" or "No I/O file ..." or some other errors. If the game is compatible it will just finish and have the status of "OK" else it will be "BAD" but even though "OK" status game is compatible to convert to USBloader format, it is no guarantee that it may work with the USBloader. You will have to test it out to see if it work or not.

You can do a simple screen shot of what you did, and the error you experienced and send it to me. So I can see what you did wrong.

By the way Firmware 3.00 is coming out, there is no confirmation about the USBloader will still be working with it. I guess lets hope it still working.

Thanks a lot, maxximuscool! The problem was, I was using the software bundled with the USBLOADER package offered on this site. I was using "USBExtreme", when I should have been using USBUtil2.0.

Sweet.. no worry, Do check out my spreadsheet of compatibility list. And do help adding some more if you testing any games. Because this could help someone else in the near future when they rewrite the coding of this Usbloader. They can adjust the compatibility to be more reliable. Hello guys.
Have anybody of you tried new version PS2 Loader 0.6 ?
I cannot get it done.

I put file into folder called SWAPMAGIC on mine usb pen.
Then renamed file to SMBOOT0.elf.
Load Swap Magic CD or DVD.
Pressed UP+L1.
Nothing happens, just Playstation 2 is displayed in center of TV.

I ran 0.2b from same usb pendrive, so it shouldnt be a problam...

Did you put it in the first USB slot? : ) Some people have had trouble with 0.6 :( a new revision should be out soon.

Just put ps2loader to SWAPMAGIC folder and rename it to SMBOOT0.elf .

And my second problem.
I got booted 0.2b. Put 2,5 external hard drive to first usb slot. Games were found, but when i select it the screen just remained black and nothing happened...

There is no need to copy to the MC0, as that was due to the emulators, which has nothing to do with this Open PS2 Loader.Some games will boot others wont, try God Of War, that boots and runs fairly well up until certain point, where it will freeze.

I have tried numerous games, which boot and work, with stutter, on 3.15 firmware. I also have an EU 60GB PS3

fix for the hdd-problem:

after starting 0.2b-Version have to pull the usb-stick, put hdd in than the list appears... then put the usb-stick on another usb-port....then most games begin to boot ;-)

Ok. I found out some interesting facts about booting this way.
At the moment I have 1GB Muvo USB pen, 8GB Kingston and new Transcend 500GB external hard drive.



I was booting absolutely with no problem from 1GB stick version 0.2 half year ago. I can boot up that version also today. BUT if I put version 0.6 on that and try to boot, the PS3 hangs after launching, displaying PlayStation 2 on the screen. It took me some time, because i didnt see reason why it shoudlnt boot, if PS3 can recognize the stick, and Swap Magic can boot from it. I don't know, but other than 0.2 is not launchable from this stick.

8GB Kinston Data traveler is somehow absolutely death. I can't launch any version from this. It always freezes up after pressing UP + L1, R1, L2, or R2. I can neither run games from this. Tried booting up from another usb and switch to this, but it wont recognize my pendrive.

5oo GB Transcend works actually BEST, i ran 0,2 0,6 with absolutely no problems, i have just 1 small problem that i explain a couple rows down...


Okay, another mine problem are intro movies in games and loading times. It takes too much to load something, the intro movies are lagging, i can see interlacing spaces and sometimes it freezes. For example GTA Vice City, it hang up after playing Rockstar logo. Another. Tekken 5 runs well but intro movies also interlacing, lagging, weird voice.. Why is this happening..... ? I see absolutely no reason External hard drive in USB must be much more faster then DVD. Isn't it ? The HDD isn't problem. Because half year ago, i put games on another 500GB Western Digital and same thing was happening to me.. Freezing movies... The Transcend shouldn't be fragmented because its brand new and the games were first files put on it....



Finally. GTA San Andreas. How to get this work ? When i do it normally via UsbUtil 1,2 i can't run the game. Always hang up. In compatibility list i found advice to patch game via UsbUtil v 2.0 After trying it, it says me something that SYSTEM.CNF is missing. I can't patch it, can't add the iso to the list...
