The developer @aldostools bring us a new update to his popular Iris Manager mod,

This is an “unofficial” version of Iris Manager 2.93 by Estwald/D-Skywalk. This version includes all the new Cobra/Mamba payload and ISO features added by Estwald. The changes that I made are mainly related to the user interface (buttons layout are more XMB-like, quick access to File Manager, progress bar when game list is scanned or file permissions are applied, colors, 15 gui modes, etc.). It also includes the Payloads for 4.41DEX/4.46DEX/4.50DEX/4.53CEX/4.55CEX from Rancid-O‘s PS3ITA Manager. The most notable feature is that unlike the official version, it scans GAMES/GAMEZ on the external drives.

Changelog 2.93-1: Added the features from official Iris Manager 2.93: Added support for Bluray and DVD ISOS and MKV videos on Cobra/Mamba (4.46, 4.53, 4.55); Use separated icons for MKV and DVD ISO; Scan /VIDEO and /MOVIES folders. /MKV path can be customized in settings.ini

Aldostools has updated IrisMAN, a fork off of Iris Manager. The new update brings a MM style button interface, and changes from official Iris 2.87 updates:

    Changelog 2.87-1: (FEB/10/14) —- UPDATE #1

Added the changes from official Iris Manager 2.87 Instead of a new ‘GUI mode’, the ‘disco’ animation is a background ‘color’: That means that the new animation is available in all GUI modes of IRISMAN.
Removed the useless “character set” test from Global Settings.
Added 2nd default to Video Adjust: press O twice
To change effects in the new “disco” background use LEFT/RIGHT arrows in Global Settings.

The Italians over at BiteYourConsole are working on a new backup manager for our enjoyment, aptly named BiteYourflow.

BiteYourConsole seeks to bring to the fore a new backup manager known by the name of PS3Flow (PuneFlow), for the first time and exclusively in the pages of BiteYourConsole it is released PKG file

The backup manager takes as its basis a new GUI library called libps3gui, a porting of the most famous libwiigui, graphics library for Wii, originally created to help structure the project in a more complex interface.

Our intention at the time was to confirm that they are working properly, only two options for the Path GUI mode, and while there are still advanced features that will be added later.

BiteYourConsole is committed to wanting to build a first fork named BiteYourFlow, integrating some of the features of Iris Manager suitably developed to allow full control over the new libraries. A big thank you goes to Giantpune, zecoxao and Deroad for having supported the project to date.

Estwald has updated Iris Manager to v2.80. The update comes with many new features including ISO name generation via PARAM.SFO. It also brings new support for PSX Cobra/Mamba

    Changelog:

    - The ISOs now will take the title name from PARAM.SFO (so far took the file name)
and also will show the background image of the game in the Options dialog.

    - New support for PSX Cobra / Mamba from “Disc-Less Payload” : works with the same versatility
as the old, but adding PSX support PSX for NTFS/EXTx units, thanks to the new plugin that allows
you to change up to 8 ISOs of PSX ( unplugging / replugging the device NTFS / EXTx in the latter
    case to change iso)

Changes for PSX in Cobra / Mamba “Disc-Less Payload” mode with respect to the old are:

    1) All Games now use the plugin by default. The games stored in /dev_hdd0 and /dev_usb00x
can use the old emulation (PSX payload) selecting “old_emu” or “old_netemu”.

    2) To eject/insert a disc, the changes are as follows (remember that only from the Cobra/Mamba
plugin in “Disc-Less Payload” mode) :

    - If the game is in NTFS / EXTx, you must unplug / plug the USB device.

    - If the game is stored in /dev_hdd0 or /dev_usb00x, it will use the first device found with a FAT
partition (device ‘/dev_usb’ ) and if this fails, then it will use the first non-FAT USB device
connected (NTFS / EXTx for example) .

    - Remember that unpluging the LED will flash

    3) If the ps1_rom.bin is used and L2 button is held down on the pad when the game is launched,
it is also possible to run the rom from NTFS / EXTx without a CD to copy/delete the data from
the memory card that is using the game (this is useful for handling Internal_MC.VM1).
You must exit from the emulator after finishing, as the old PSX payload used.

    4) Leaving the PSX emulator it is possible to launch the game from the disc, but in doing so,
the video will be set to PAL/NTSC depending on the region of your system, and you must select
the memory card from the emulator and keep in mind that if the game does not belong to your
    region, it will freeze.

Firstly, i hate the word jailbreak, but as so many people call hacking the PS3, jailbreaking, that is what i will call it for this guide.
Secondly, the old guides are outdated and need refreshed.

     photo dogkihjodiughjoidhgjdotghgjkodgfhj_zpsd075b837.png

    (Q) Why Would I Hack/Jailbreak My PS3 ?
    (A) Hacking your PS3, gives you so many new option’s, you will be able to use emulators, homebrew apps and game backups as well as being able to use Linux, after Sony removed the function in firmware 3.21.

    CFW(Custom Firmware)/MFW(Modified Firmware)

    (Q) CFW/MFW Or Dongle ?
    (A) CFW/MFW is the way to go, dongles are dead and you should not be using them.

    (Q) Which PS3 Consoles Can Be Jailbroken
(A)here is a list taken from the PS3 Dev Wiki
    SKU Models

or you can take a look at this image:
     photo x4i6shO_zps9f4b8062.jpg

    (Q) Which PS3 Consoles cannot be Jailbroken
    (A) 3K and 4K consoles(Some Slim and all Super Slim)

    (Q) Is there a firmware my PS3 should be on ?
    (A) The most recent Rebug or Rogero seems to be the most desired

    (Q) What Firmwares cannot be hacked yet ?
    (A) Firmwares from 3.56 upwards are un-jailbreakable at the moment, perhaps it will remain that way, or perhaps we will see a break through in the future, only time will tell.

    (Q) How do i install the latest 4xx CFW/MFW
    (A) You should follow these guides:
[TUT] How to install the latest 4.XX CFW’s
Nicolas’ MiralaTijera CFW 4.40 NooB Tutorial
[Video Tutorial] How To Install 4.30 PS3 CFW (From 3.55 CFW)

    (Q) I have found some CFW/MFW on the internet, how do i know it is real ?

    Downgrading

    (Q) When i bought my PS3, the firmware was above 3.55/My family member updated my console when i was out :( , how can i have jailbreak my console ?
    (A) You need to downgrade your PS3, this is rather a tedious process, involving soldering several wires to your PS3, but in the future we will have solderless models of these products, for information on how to downgrade, check these threads:
Ultimate Fool Proof Guide: Ps3 Hardware Downgrading
[Tutorial] E3 Flasher: Fast Swap Dual Guide For All OFW/CFW

Q.) Can 4.xx CFW be installed on 4.xx OFW ?
A.) NO, NO and NO, you need to DOWNGRADE to a 3.55 Firmware.

    Q.) Can i Software Downgrade from 4.xx OFW ?
A.) NO, at the moment you MUST, use a Hardware Flasher, like Progskeet or E3, if you are comfortable with soldering, then Progskeet is the recommended device.

    Q.) Can i brick my PS3 installing a 4.xx CFW ?
A.) Yes, as with all OFW’s or CFW’s you have a chance of bricking, with CFW’s your chances of bricking become a lot higher, when you dont read.

    Q.) Can i brick my PS3 by downgrading ?
A.) Of course you can, but most bricks occur due to user error.

Q.) Who is to blame for any bricks ?
A.) You as the user are, most bricks are down to user error, take your time to read, take your time to understand, take all the time possible and have some patience, it will pay off and be rewarding in the end.

Q.) I want to downgrade my PS3, but im either too afraid or i have zero soldering skills, can someone do it for me ?
A.) Well doing something yourself, is always rewarding, but if you don’t have the confidence, you don’t have the confidence, so you can ask anyone from the trusted downgraders thread:
    Trusted PS3 Downgrade Providers

    Future Software Methods

Q.) Will there ever be a method to upgrade from straight from 4.xx OFW to 4.xx CFW ?
A.) We are but mere mortals, we are not psychic, the only advice that one can give you is, be patient and wait until the PlayStation 4 is released.

Q.) Will there ever be a method to Software Downgrade from 4.xx ?
A.) We are but mere mortals, we are not psychic, the only advice that one can give you is, be patient and wait until the PlayStation 4 is released.

    Homebrew/Backups

    (Q) Ok so i have CFW installed, how do i run homebrew ?
    (A) In the game section, you will see “Install Package Files”, you will be able to install all your homebrew and backup managers from there, just a note though, the PKG files that you are installing, need to be on the root of your FAT32 formatted thumbdrive/external HDD.

    (Q) I need a backup manager, what should i use
    (A)
    Iris Manager
    multiMAN

    Storage Options

    (Q) What are my storage options for backing up games(This really 0nly applies to Fat PS3′s) ?

(A.1) You can backups certain games to CD/DVD/BD disc’s, read here for more information.
(A.2) You can install games on the PS3′s internal HDD or use an External USB HDD, which needs to be formatted to FAT32, you can also use a FAT32 USB Thumb Drive, note that with FAT32 you are limited to games with single files under 4GB, if you prefer all your games to be on the internal HDD, you can get up to 1TB 2.5? HDD, or you can use the Xecuter PS3 HDXT method and have your internal HDD on the outside of the machine, the benefit of this, is that you can use 3.5? Sata and IDE HDD’s as internal storage.

Some more PS3 HDD Information submitted by ieder-zijn-meis(Thanks again)
    - maximum height is 9,5mm (many 2.5? drives above 640GB are too high too fit inside)
    - maximum PS3 filesystem is 1TB (512KB block size)
    - maximum FAT32 theoretical size is 8TB, practical limit on the PS3 is 2TB
    - 7200rpm can be used, as well as Flashdrives (although the 1/5th lower loadingtime of GTA5 can be considered too low to justify the higher pricetag of SATA Flashdrives.
    - SATAII-300 can be used, although it will work on SATA1-150 speed interface.
    - If using external 3.5? drives hooked up to the internal SATA, you’ll need an external powersupply (some drivebays include them).
    - If on low budget or you like DIY: use a normal extension (male to female) SATA cable (and make sure it doesn’t get loose) and recycle the case + powersupply of an external USB harddisk (without using the USB connection/conversion).
    - Don’t use RAID or SAN drives with (e)SATA interface, just a plain single drive with a bare SATA connector (many controllers don’t work without drivers/software).
    - Games can be hardcoded for BluRay speeds (9MB/s) so sticking a 85~220MB/s harddrive inside will not speedup everything/allways (but most do).
    - If you plan on exchanging the drive, download the full PUP of your FW you are using and put it on an USB Mass Storage Device formatted with FAT32 in PS3UPDATEPS3UPDAT.PUP and disconnect the LAN before re powering the PS3 (or you’ll bound to end up with the latest (3.55 now) unjailbreakable/undowngradable version).
    - Use a good fitting X screwdriver, the screws fitted to the HD<>tray are made of very soft aluminum.

Here is a tutorial, by forum member Invi, on how to an External IDE HDD Case and use it as Internal Storage:
HowTo: Use an external IDE HDD Case to connect an Internal 3,5″ Sata HDD as PS3 HDD.

An image of the Xecuter PS3 HDXT.

Videos of different HDD expansion options.

    ODDE’s

    (Q) As stated above, 3K and 4K consoles cannot be jailbroken, so am i out of luck as far as Homebrew and Backups are concerned ?
    (A) No, there are a a few devices that will help you play backups and homebrew, they are called ODDE’s, the name of these ODDE’s are E3, 3K3Y and Cobra, you can find information here:
3K3Y ODDE all you need to know: Info/links/etc

My advise is to find a machine that you can downgrade, spend your money on this before wasting money on an ODDE

I was sitting on holiday a couple of weeks ago, thinking about the day PS Jailbreak was revealed, i knew that its birthday was coming up and thought id write an article about it, but when the time came, it totally slipped my mind, until today.

Anyhow, three years ago on the 18th of August 2010 news broke on PSX Scene that a device was about to be released that would let us play backups on our PS3′s, here is the very first video of said device:

To read the original article, check this thread:
    PS Jailbreak

PS Jailbreak was released at an extremely high price, but was soon reversed, leading to PSGroove and PSFreedom, open source alternatives.

As most of you know, i dislike dongles, but if it hadn’t of been for PS Jailbreak, the machine still might not be hacked, so thank you Sony for giving people the inspiration to release a hacking device for the PS3.

    Google translate

We are delighted to announce the first public release of our backup manager: Ps3ita Manager.

Ps3ita Manager was not created from scratch, on the contrary, is a simple fork of Iris Manager, initially for fun and then by the need to include some essential functions (fix for the error 0 × 80010009) for our cfw (and not only ..)

Gradually, the project has caught on, other changes were made to the manager, until the meat to the fire was enough to justify a first release ..

It was not created anything revolutionary .. but we think that some additions can be enjoyed by more people..

    Changelog:

    v1.0, 12/05/13
    ————-

    Based on Iris Manager 2.40

    New Features:

    - Added Payload 4.41 CEX (CFW Rebug 4.41.2 & Rogero 4.41 are now supported).
    - “Control fan” now also supports the CFW 3.55 DEX, 4.21 DEX, 4.30 DEX and 4.41 CEX.
    - Added function that automatically fixed the error 0×80010009 in games and updates.
    - Added Menu “Setup Video” and options “Grid 6×4/4×3″. This last one allows you to choose if display 24 or 12 games on one page screen.
    - The manager on first boot detects the language setting in the PS3 and if the language is present in Ps3ita Manager set it as default.
    - Added option “Fix fw version in psn/update games” in the menu “Tools”.
This fixex the error 0×80010009 in ALL PSN Games and Update installed.
Note: The option for obvious reasons is displayed only if you use a cfw from version 4.21 to 4.40.

    Problem fixed:

    - Fixed bug in payload 3.55 DEX and 4.21 DEX (wrong offset in the functions lv2_unpatch_storage & lv2_patch_storage).
    - Fixed “bug” in the payload 4.30 DEX (was not present the “patch” to remove the lv2 memory protection).
This was causing shutdown of the ps3 if you used the CFW Rebug 4.30.2 with target id set to DEX.

Estwald updated Iris Manager to version 2.40.

    Quote from the source

    Lo nuevo: en versión 2.40

    1) Actualizado lenguaje Italiano (gracias AcidBuRn1)

    Google translation:

    New: version 2.40

    1) Updated Italian language (thanks AcidBuRn1)

    2) Fixed error in the definition of a variable in the FTP which made the console will turn off when not using the remote, but was transferring files

    3) Further improvement for PSX emulator that eliminates the need to modify usleep () changing it to a method that allows syscalls redial as often as desired [****y] (and thus be able to step calls conflicted by enter the syscall loop to change the turning point)

    4) Added in the menu “Tools” tool “Fan & USB Wakeup Control”.

    - Allows control of satellite payload temperatures, System Manager (sm.self) in Miralatijera 4.40 CFW + Core 3.3.0, by the SYSCON or speed set by the user (option “By User and speed in” User / Shutdown Speed ”.

    - Displays real time information of the temperatures, fan speed mode and current.

    - Allows you to set the behavior of the Payload / S. Manager adjusting speed / temperature to suit the user and reset defaults and remember the values set (“Set Settings” and record the values fixed)

    - From System Manager (sm.self) to set a time (or disable) in steps of 10 seconds for the utility writes a file on the USB device in use and avoid “sleep” for lack of activity

Estwald has updated Iris Manager to version 2.3.6

Here are the changes in both 2.3.5 and 2.3.6

    2.35

What’s new on Iris Manager 2.35

-Ported all console presentation to support UTF8 instead of ANSI

    - Added improvements to “Archive Manager”: ability to edit LV2, RAM, select a piece of code, copy it (max 1MB), paste it on other place(file/memory), use it to find matches (max 512 bytes) or create a new file with that content.

    - Added procedure Write HTAB (thanks to Miralatijera for the assembly code) to make LV2 executable and other stuff [+ laughs]

    - Added Disc-less mode that runs games from a simulated disc in XMB, using BD EMU, patched explore_plugin and patched libfs, has successfully launched all the games I’ve tried, without addressing /APP_HOME in CFW 4.40 Miralatijera .

This mode doesn’t work for those who have a broken BD-Drive or don’t have a working lector

    Requirements:

    - Modules explore_plugin and libfs must be patched.

    - A USB flash drive, memory card or USB storage device connected (recommended method)

    - On Iris Manager, press START to “Global Options”, go to “Tools” and select where it says ” With/Without BDVD Controller” the “Disc - Less payload” option.

    - Restart Iris Manager and select a game: to have a better compatibility, use BD EMU with patched libfs.sprx or patched explore_plugin.sprx.

    Virtual mounting system

There are three ways to get the disc mounted:

    - On Iris Manager or XMB, insert a USB flash drive, USB storage device, or memory card, and then launch the game.

    - Before to run Iris Manager, insert a USB flash drive, USB storage device or memory card, then run Iris Manager, select a game and the disc will be mounted on XMB automatically.

    - Without a USB device or memory card: Run Iris Manager, select a game and on XMB, run another application, such as “Homelaunc1″, that get in and get out quickly. With that, the game will be mounted on XMB.

    Notes:

This has been tested in CFW 4.40 Miralatijera: in theory, It should work on other CFW, since the code was created considering the portability (ability to locate the code on any place and re-define the necessary calls).

Notice again that there is no support for those who have a broken BD-Drive or simply do not have a working lector. (I’m really sorry, but I have no technical resources to find out what’s wrong and it’s an achievement that I have made this in that way [+ laughs])

Obviously, this is a full disc-less mode: you can’t pretend to insert a real disc with the syscalls simulating another, so you must restart the PS3. It’s compatible with the PSX ISOS from Iris Manager.

    2.3.6

Fixed an issue that occurs when copying files, because the bookstore Tiny3D forms a polygon packet too long hanging GPU console from TTF.

Fixed color interposing (background color) with another texture (TTF character colored) so that breaks the list, forcing shader change (as happened with the old printing routines characters)

PS: Yes, it is a rare problem that copying files , pete la GPU XD

PS3 Dev CaptainCPS-X has updated his PS2 Classics Manager to version 1.02 and taken it out of beta, here is a quote from his release thread:

Updated main thread with this release to avoid having multiple release threads with same instructions.

    Notes:

    - Before updating you need to have PS2CM v1.01 installed.
    - This is mostly a bug fix release, please let me know if you find more.
    - More features will come for future updates (Ex. Themes, Auto Import+Encrypt, etc…)

    Changelog:

    PS2CM v1.02 (April 11, 2013)

    - Added shadow effect to all displayed text, this will allow @opium2k and others to design clear themes for PS2CM.
    - Fixed reported issues with Memory Cards.
    - Fixed a problem when assigning Memory Cards, if both slots were deactivated it would make PS2CM freeze.
    - Fixed small bug on the Title ID parsing code, only affected titles that had “[" and "]” characters at the end.
    - Added some missing titles to the “ps2titleid.txt” database, thanks to those who reported them.

Thanks @bubba for your collaboration with covers , I updated the main thread with the latest links, I will upload “M” pack #2 soon to the SkyDrive, when I have the complete collection I will start making the PKGs and upload them so people can easily install them on their PS3.
