****THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR PS2 GAMES.****

It seems a German ps3 Dev named ScHeVeNs has found a way to play PS1 burned backups using multiMAN.

    hi there,

    I am ScHeVeNs a German PS3 Developer,

I have found a way, to boot any burned PS1 Backup Game, its not very hard to make…

    Requirements:

    PS3 with 3.55CFW

(maybe also a 3.41 machine, but not tested in moment!) ( I use Rebug 3.55.2 for that )

    multiMAN latest version!

    PS1 Backup on burned Disk

    ……
    Start your PS3,

    Insert your burned PS1 Copy,

    start multiMAN,

    go to filemanager mode,

    search for:

    dev_flashps1emu,

    Press X on ps1_emu.self

Tada, your Ps1 Backup will now boot and you see the PSLogo Bootscreen.

maybe this works also on PS2 Games Backups but i have a PS3 slim….and can not test this!

    Have fun with this….

And give $ony a slap in her ….. face.
    greetings ScHeVeNs

    this is living!!!

First the Duplex thing now this…wow the scene can take a turn for the better all in a matter of one day…plus the progress of the n64 emu…Looking good

    UPDATE 1:

Tons of new updates on this news story over the past several hours.

First off, deank has updated multiMAN to version 02.07.06, this new update allows PSX discs appear in XMMB Game column allowing you to boot PS1 games from there. You can grab the download HERE.

Second, SAVE GAME FILES ARE NOT CURRENTLY WORKING.

There also is a compatibility list out there, I am mirrioring the tested ones here but honestly most of the games will work with this method and there may be a very small percent that don’t.

And here are some videos showing the PSX booting in action:

Stay tuned for more developments with us @PS3Hax.

    UPDATE 2

PS3Hax member CaptainCPS-X has posted more information on how to get SAVE GAME to work, to quote:

    - Turn on you PS3 console
    - DONT open multiMAN
    - In the GAME column look for “Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)”
    - Create a PS1 memory card
    - Set it to Slot 1 (Press Triangle while selecting the Memory Card, then Assign it)
    - Now, run multiMAN
    - Insert your backup disc
    - Load it
    - Play
    - Memory Card is in Slot 1, no need to mess with it anymore.

    UPDATE 3:

Another multiMAN update by deank brining version to 02.07.07.

    To quote:

    multiMAN ver 02.07.07 UPDATE (20110928-161900).pkg (1.75 MB)

In this update about PSX games (FW 3.55 only):

    * Proper management for Memory Card 1 and Memory Card 2 (thanks to moogie and squarepusher for the emulator debug log)
    * The name of the memory card may be anything you wish
    * Setting “Screen Mode” to “Full”
    * Setting “Smoothing” to “On”
    * Detecting PSX discs with Audio tracks (now all PSX discs detected properly)

If you want “Saves” and “Memory Cards” to work, make sure that your CREATE at least one memory card in XMB/Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2).

Have in mind that EVEN if you don’t assign a slot for a memory card from XMB, multiMAN will search for your memory cards and will assign all of them in the emulator. Do not use the “Assign Slots” menu in the emulator – it will freeze. The cards will be already assigned.

For all this to work you must launch the game from the PSX black disc icon in XMMB Game column and not the emulator self!

uTorrent is now supporting iPhone, iPad, PS3, Xbox 360 and Android integration with its software. Currently uTorrent allows users to easily and quickly sync downloaded content to these devices. They plan to implement video/audio to compataible formats soon. (ofcourse Vuze has already done this for a while now))

The first PS3 game requiring firmware 3.7x is now out known as Child of Eden. We may have gotten lucky over the last few with a few games, but it looks like the window of games playable 3.55 CFW is getting very narrow, and the need for 3.7x CFW is getting greater. For those interested in the current public state of “new CFW”, should check out this post related to PNM Project.

And for those interested here is a snipped of what this game is about via IGN:

We all know deank is probably the most dedicated PS3 Developer there is on the PS3 Scene, whether it be big updates, or minor updates, he is always working on multiMAN, today he releases version 02.07.00 which is a huge update, here is a quote from the change log:

    * Added: LV2 access rights to use LV1 Storage Manager (syscall 864)
    * Added: LV1 patch for user access to sys_storage functions (syscalls 600 to 623)

    * The above two for regular users mean:

    * Thanks to graf_chokolo and the SACD-Ripper guys!

    * -> Access to all types of optical discs inside multiMAN (file/folder mode):
    * -> Copy/Backup of Blu-ray Movie Discs (decryption may be required on PC) (previously possible only via OtherOS)
    * -> Copy/Backup of DVD-Video discs (decryption may be required on PC)
    * -> Copy/Backup of PSX and Playstation 2 Discs
    * -> Access to AACSMKB_RO.inf on a Blu-ray movie disc to restore lost DRL1/DRL2
    * -> Direct playback of movies/music (avi, mkv, etc) from BD-R/BD-RE/DVD-R/DVD-RW via Showtime for multiMAN

That’s about it. In short it means that you can now access and copy files/folders from any optical disc (be it to rip a blu-ray movie or transfer a backup of PS3 game from DVD or BDR to your ps3, watch videos in Showtime, etc)

The download is yet not available, but will be released later today.

Deank as always, is working hard on bringing improvements to his awesome piece of Homebrew, this minor update, removes the old FTP sever and implements jjolano’s OpenPS3FTP, here is a quote from the source:

    * Changed: Implemented OpenPS3FTP by jjolano and removed the old buggy FTP server (faster transfer speeds and no path/file length limitations)

This should clear most of the FTP problems multiMAN had. Transfer speed is now faster, you can use 8-16 simultaneous file transfers, and the problem with long path and file names is gone now.

The implementation of openps3ftp is based on older version from jjolano, but still is much much better than what multiMAN had until now, so big thanks to him!

Remember this? Condorstrike has updated his awesome screensaver with added support for FTP and MP3 Playback.

Well guys, by popular demand here’s Solar v2.0.

This is a multiMAN edition and stand-alone. The app would need to be spawned by multiMAN, so it’s up to Dean. But the stand-alone will spawn multiMAN. FTP works really well, and it’s very fast, but sadly only one session…lol, so use it wisely. I will fix in the future. Will add more stuff in future releases, but 1st I have to fix my setup…lol which caused my delay.
Hope you guys enjoy it, CAW!

    Usage:

    SELECT pauses the music.

    START resumes it.

    X starts the FTP.

And all the other buttons will launch multiMAN

    Changelog:

    - FTP

    - Particles effects.

    - Light effects

    - Added Text

    - Major memory fixes

    - Some resolutions and cosmetic changes

    - Fixed Sound loop bug

Here’s what we can except in the future:

    - Fix some minor bugs.

    - More screens.

    - More Dynamic effects.

    - More MP3 stuff

    EDIT:
Version 2.0.1 released, which fixes some graphical bugs.

More updates from deank on the latest multiMAN:

    Update version 02.06.02:

multiMAN versions 01.10.00-02.06.00 ran in VSYNC mode (it caused barely-noticed tearing because of the double refresh rate). Latest update compensates the speed by lowering multiMAN performance in XMMB mode, while keeping the outlook. It means no tearing (unless you really want it – switch with SELECT+SQUARE)..

Opening a SIDE menu will make current entry icon zoom 8x and visible enough in 480p/576p modes. Looks pretty in photo, music, game/fave/retro columns.

“Key Repeat Delay” for some reason was ignored when changing it… Now fixed.

    Update is available online, too.

The COBRA MANAGER itself didnt look very appealing to pretty much anyone. it also has a lot of complaints about it too, “comes with a slick UI” ..yeah..well it does now

After some FTPING [VIA ETHNET] into the COBRA directory, I found that the manager itself is just comprised of PNG files,[will explain more in a minute we have ALOT to cover]

Everything you’ll need will be in a RAR file.

What me and fffrage have accomplished we revamped the dull cobra manager to any skin you guys would like. fffrage created the templates, which you see, so please give him thanks. He did all the hard work. XD

    BEFORE:

    AFTER:

    Now, for the tutorial.

    PART 1:

To make things easier please make sure that the following programs are installed before hand.

The pictures MUST be in 1920×1080 for this to work. A quick google will bring up aload of images in that resolution. If you have a picture that isnt in 1920×1080 you can create it with Infan View.

1: Once you have the picture you want, load up Watermark Image, this is where you’ll be able to layer on top of the current image. Anyway, upload the picture you have chosen, untick “Resize Images” and “Use 3D depth map.”

Where it says Output Format make put it up to 100, then change the output format to PNG.

Click “File”, you’ll then be asked to upload the picture. Now click “Select Preview Image” This will bring up an image of the picture you have chosen.

    IMPORTANT:

If the picture is of the wrong resolution and not [1920x1080] the teplate will turn your picture black.

Now, where it says “Image used for watermarking”.

It is best to keep everything in one directory so you know where it is. On your computer navigate to the “Templates” directory, select “Template 1″ and use that. So now you should have your chosen photo overlayed with the template youve just selected.

Once you’ve created the templates, you will need to rename them as

    “back1.PNG”

    “back2.PNG”

    “back3.PNG”

    Then FTP them into /dev_hdd0/game/CBUM01234/USRDIR/

    Overwrite the exsisting files.

Below is an explaination of whateach of the templates do.

    Templates Explained:

    Template 1:

    Load

    Change mode [Games3 Blu-Ray DVD PSX PS2]

    Copy

    Delete

    Template 2:

    OK Cancel

    Copys Disks To HDD

    Template 3:

    OK Cancel

    Settings

As i am a very avid fan of Final Fantasy VII and to show my apperication, ive decided to go with a FFVII Based Skin.
You can use your own images, but they need to be 1920×1080 also in full colour.

[its due to the manager itself the wording doesnt show up properly if you use a white or light based background ] We havnt found a way to change the fonts, or the colours used yet, but once we/ i have, this will be updated to reflect these changes.

PART 2: MAKING BACKGROUND And ICON

These 2 must be in PNG format, the Background should be in 1920×1080, which should be named PIC1

Any Icon can be used but it has to be name as ICON0

PART 3: MAKING THE BACKGROUND MUSIC And MAKING IT LOOP.

Now open up Audicity select the audio you would like to use [MP3]
and drag the little finger icon across to where you’d like your music to finish.
Go to “Edit” “Delete” so you are now left with a part you wish to use as your background music.

If you would like your music to fade out select the end, 3 seconds will do, and then go to effects and select fade out.
Now go to “File” and “Export As MP3″ you will need to install the lame_enc.dll file, which also be included in the pack.

    Once this is done

Fire up Goldwave, go to File and select “Save As” and select WAV. then scroll down and select ATRAC3 66kbs. Now click save.

Finally click on to GWAT.exe, drag and drop the pre-made X.wav file into it. Press “Goldwave” it will then say “X.wav looped” but it will save it as “Looped X.at3″

PART 4: USING PS3SFO EDIT TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE MANAGER.

Fire up FTP on your PS3 and whatever program you use, to FTP into it.

Go to the following directory /dev_hdd0/game/CBUM01234. (im not joking that is the cobra directory >_<) Now copy the PARAM.SFO to your computer. Load up PS3SFO.

It will complain about not being finished, ignore that. Load up the PRAMSFO file you’ve just ftp’d from your PS3.

Once this has loaded, it will display “COBRA MANGER” you can edit this to whatever you’d like. Putting / wont work though.

    PART 5: THE FINAL PART.

Keep FTP open and have your PS3 connected. Navigate to /dev_hdd0/game/CBUM01234. Open this folder and replace the SFO file, add PIC1, also ICON0, SND0.AT3

    Now go into USRDIR

You will see a list of:
EBOOT.BIN <- PROGRAM WHICH RUNS ON THE PS3

    dvd.PNG <- DVD ICON

bd.PNG <- SAME AS THE DVD ICON BUT IN BLUE (yeah COBRA got lazy)

back1.PNG <- It has the box with those buttons which i explained up above

back2.png <- A box which displays where to copy your “digital goods” to.

    back.3.PNG <- Settings

    SOFTWARE USED

Watermark Image – for the image layering.

Goldwave to make the SND0.AT3 file [background music]

    Sony ATRAC Codec

GWAT – to make the sound loop.

Audicity – to added fade out, and to cut parts out. (Thanks to linuxx for making the tune, and teaching me how to make proper SND0.AT3 files)

PS3SFO EDIT- to change the name of the loader.

Infan View – to change the resolution of photos.

    FILEZILLA -FTP Program

    PS3 ITEMS:

ICON0: this is the icon which displays on the XMB

PIC1: Adds a background to the program your about to run

SND0: Its the background music which plays in some games, you can add your own though.

    LIST OF CHANGES:

The COBRA ICON to a more fitting one.

Added a background when the “Manager” is highlighted & audio which loops too. – these can all be changed to your liking.
    (currently SHINRA BUILDING TUNE)

Changed the name of the manager.

Removed the normal to glassy versions.

This wouldn’t of been possible without you guys XD

More updates from deank on his latest multiMAN, bringing the version to an UPDATED version 02.04.00. The update adds a feature quite a few people have been asking for…wallpaper support!

    Changelog:

    * “Set as Wallpaper” and “Restore Wallpaper” options when you press [TRIANGLE] in photo column.
    * UPDATE (Showtime) when “Start Showtime” is selected in VIDEO column (initiates download of SHOWTIME.SELF)
    * REFRESH: to refresh content for PHOTO, MUSIC and RETRO columns
    * FILE MANAGER: to open the folder of the selected entry (picture, music, video, rom) in File Manager

The update is available online (to update from your PS3 in multiMAN DEBUG mode – by holding L2+R2 at startup -> UPDATE)

A few weeks ago we held a new multiMAN logo competition. Well deank is back from his vacation, has chosen a winner and is back to updating your favorite backup manager.

Below is the new multiMAN logo, created by TheForce:

And here is the changelog posted by deank (Version 02.04.00)

    Version 02.04.00:

    * Added: Display of embedded JPEG images in MP3 files for XMMB Music column
    * Added: Pulsing of selected entry/title in XMMB display mode
    * Added: Czech, Hungarian, Catalan, Galician and Indonesian languages
    * Added: Other various tweaks and changes
    * multiMAN LOGO Contest Winner: TheForce
    * Cover server updated with latest 2644 game covers
    * Changed “Download Themes” server back to my primary one

Update is available online and BASE/FULL packages may be available later. There are no major changes in this version, because most of the program is now stable enough (for my beliefs).

We all know that the US version of Catherine is 3.60 encrypted and hence is not playable on CFW, but the Japanese version is (3.55 encrypted). The obvious language difference has kept many users from playing the jap version, but various members from the PS3 scene community have managed to make a English fix for the game. They did this by playing with the US/JAP eBoots to create a “hybrid” eBoot playable on CFW.

Although its proper to call this still a beta phase, it is mostly functional and you should be able to figure your way out of many of the untranslated things. They are asking for testers so if your interested you can try the method below.

    To quote:

Contrary to what you wrote, I don’t feel that way about the files at all.

I hacked together some pretty terrible shortform responses in order to fit the space limitations in the Japanese MailData and MTFL. They’re far from perfect, full of grammar and other mistakes, and frankly I’m embarrassed about them. But in order to fix those problems, I need testers. However, torrents on such sites like BitGamer, have not linked the issue page, nor have any of the DDL files. So while people are able to play the game, it’s far from perfect and not only are they likely to be disappointed, their disappointment won’t reach my ears.

With that being said, I’d rather no credit be given to me for my terrible job (however I do give credit to Wilson-PSG for providing the upperscore free english subtitles).

For those wondering what the current status of the project is, we’re still working on it – but trying to edit the Japanese EBOOT so we can get a real, proper, release. But in the meantime, I’m working on fixing up the shortened versions of the cellphone messages and replies, and the rope answers for the worst case scenario of us not being able to fix the EBOOT.

If you wish to test and actually give feedback, the files have been freely available and I linked them multiple times. But for those that wish to not read back through the forums, here is a handy guide on how to set things up.

    1. Ensure that you have either the Japanese or North American of Catherine available.
    2. Download the required tools to make the modifications to your game from : http://www.mediafire.com/?bfjnaruk41cr1oy.
    3. Download the other required modifications to ‘partially’ put your game into English : http://www.mediafire.com/?6klv96qcmc47ylj.
    4. Extract both archives.
    5. From the tools archive, open the quickbms folder and open up ‘quickbms.exe’.
    6. A file selection dialog will appear, asking you to select the BMS script or plugin to use, go to the extracted quickbms folder and select ‘cpk.bms’.
    7. Another file selection dialog will appear, asking for the input archive. Now browse to your copy of the Japanese or North American version of Catherine (BLJM60215 or BLUS30428) and from the PS3_GAMEUSDIR folder within it, select ‘data.cpk’.
    8. The last file selection dialog will appear, and you can choose the output folder of your choice, I suggest you create a new one called ‘data’.
    9. After several minutes, the files will be extracted to the folder you specified. Now copy the folders from the mod.rar archive that you extracted earlier, and paste and merge them in the output folder from quickbms that you selected. Allow them to overwrite the folders.
    10. From the tools archive, open the ‘CRI Packed File Maker-ElPocho96′ folder, and go into the ‘crifilesystem’ directory. Open the application named ‘CriPackedFileMaker.exe’.
    11. Next to the ‘Base Directory’ bar at the the top of the application, click the folder icon with an arrow. From the folder selection dialog, choose the output folder from quickbms for the contents of your now-modified data.cpk.
    12. Allow a few moments for the application to load all the files, and press the ‘Build CPK file…’ button in the bottom of the application.
    13. In the settings box, change the ‘Data Align’ slider to 2048, and change the ‘File Mode’ dropdown to ‘Filename’. Also uncheck ‘Try Compression’ if it happens to be checked.
    14. Hit the ‘Start to Build’ button and be prepared to wait 7-15 minutes for data.cpk to be rebuilt.
    15. Once it finishes, backup your old data.cpk in the PS3_GAMEUSDIR folder of your game (for preparation of future patches), and place your new, modified data.cpk in its place.
    16. Transfer the files over to your PS3, and load the game in your backup manager of choice – please ensure that all previous game data the update for the japanese game are deleted prior to starting the game with your new data.cpk.
    17. The last, most important step is to please report any bugs you may find, translation issues, or other things you have a problem with at the project issues page at http://code.google.com/p/cathyeng/issues/list

For those using the North American release as a base, please be warned that the rapunzel.pac is not included in the mod.rar as we don’t officially support the NA release quite yet. For both releases, Babel seems to crash and we’re still investigating those problems. Circle is accept/confirm and Cross is cancel, because of the Japanese EBOOT. When everything is fixed, we will release the full game already modified for those who don’t wish to fool around with patching (and probably offer the patch method anyways for all of you that have already downloaded the game).

Any further questions can be answered by one of the users or ‘staff’ at the Catherine IRC channel, #catherine @ irc.rizon.net

Hope this posts clarifies the intentions, and clears up confusion some of you may have been experiencing.
