    Developer Zecoxao was able to get running various BD-J homebrew on PS4. Most assumed that it should work but nobody was sure 100%. Yes we can now run some homebrew on PS4 but don’t expect this as a major breakthrough. This was also done on PS3 prior to its first jailbreak.

    I have reached out to the developer of the original PS3 Minimal BDJ SDK to see if he could update it, so that it accommodates the PS4 control pad, also Blu Ray Java and Java in general should be more advanced now than it was back on the PS3 and with more power on the PS4, perhaps we could now implement sound and perhaps have better homebrew.

    Here are some facts:
    This is NOT a hack.
    This is NOT anything major and will not lead to anything major.
    This will NOT let you run PS4 “backups”.
    This will NOT give you any access to the PS4’s OS system files.
    This is NOT illegal.
    This does NOT void your warranty.
    This will NOT let you run PC games on your PS4.
    This will ONLY let you run Java software.
    We all know that this isn’t any type of break through, it is using a system that is already in place, to run something that we have created ourselves, it runs from disc and does not touch any part of the PS4’s operating system, so do not expect anything huge from this.

    If anything comes from this and the SDK is updated, do expect some fun homebrew and app’s that we can use on our PS4’s.

    This method will also work on the PS3 and should work on the Xbox One, not sure about the Wii U, but we won’t know until it is tested.

    This tool can be used to load webMAN with PS3 ISO support on non-Cobra CFW.

    The tool is based on IRISMAN. It simply loads the CFW payloads & patches, installs the mamba payload in memory and starts the VSH PRX loader with webMAN-MOD.

    Here is the update!

    This is an “unofficial” version of Iris Manager 2.93 by Estwald/D-Skywalk. This version includes all the new Cobra/Mamba payload and ISO features added by Estwald. The changes that I made are mainly related to the user interface (buttons layout are more XMB-like, quick access to File Manager, progress bar when game list is scanned or file permissions are applied, colors, 16 gui modes, etc.). It also includes the Payloads from Rancid-O’s PS3ITA Manager, Joonie and Habib. The most notable feature is that unlike the official version, it scans GAMES/GAMEZ on the external drives.

    New mamba payloads for 3.55 / 3.55D / 4.21 / 4.21D /4.30 / 4.31 / 4.40 / 4.41 / 4.41D / 4.46 / 4.46D /4.50 / 4.50D / 4.53 / 4.53D / 4.55 / 4.55D / 4.60 / 4.65. Now PS3 ISOs are playable on all these CFW without need of Cobra support.

    IMPORTANT: If you use webMAN on Cobra CFW, unmount any mounted game before launch IRISMAN.

    Brunolee The developer has released a small mod for Cobra/Rogero Custom Firmware  that allows us to easily install  Webman v1.7.

    I do not know to what extent it can be convenient because the plugin is constantly being updated, but you will also find comfort in being able to set the ScreenShot InGame or temporarily disable the call from the XMB “★ / app_home/PS3_GAME /”.

    You can also  change the “avatar smiley” with new images, new colourful waves on the XMB, and new coldboot gameboot and the replacement of the classic “★ Install Package Files /” with “★ Package Manager”.

    The Italian dev Alexander has released an update to his homebrew Fan Control Utility.  The new version 1.11 is also the custom icon as well as support for new custom firmware 4.50. Alexander has released an update to fix several bugs present in version 1.10 Fan Control Utility.

    In addition, the dev  Alexander makes us aware that the tool can also be used on Custom Firmware Dex 4:41 and 4:46 thanks to Reiza72 and Rancid-0 (author of the Custom Firmware Dex PS3ITA).

    Firstly, i hate the word jailbreak, but as so many people call hacking the PS3, jailbreaking, that is what i will call it for this guide.
    Secondly, the old guides are outdated and need refreshed.

    (A) Hacking your PS3, gives you so many new option’s, you will be able to use emulators, homebrew apps and game backups as well as being able to use Linux, after Sony removed the function in firmware 3.21.

    (A) CFW/MFW is the way to go, dongles are dead and you should not be using them.

    Homebrew/Backups

    (A) In the game section, you will see “Install Package Files”, you will be able to install all your homebrew and backup managers from there, just a note though, the PKG files that you are installing, need to be on the root of your FAT32 formatted thumbdrive/external HDD.

    (Q) I need a backup manager, what should i use

    Storage Options

    (Q) What are my storage options for backing up games(This really 0nly applies to Fat PS3′s) ?

    (A.1) You can backups certain games to CD/DVD/BD disc’s, read here for more information.
    (A.2) You can install games on the PS3′s internal HDD or use an External USB HDD, which needs to be formatted to FAT32, you can also use a FAT32 USB Thumb Drive, note that with FAT32 you are limited to games with single files under 4GB, if you prefer all your games to be on the internal HDD, you can get up to 1TB 2.5? HDD, or you can use the Xecuter PS3 HDXT method and have your internal HDD on the outside of the machine, the benefit of this, is that you can use 3.5? Sata and IDE HDD’s as internal storage.

    - maximum height is 9,5mm (many 2.5? drives above 640GB are too high too fit inside)
    - maximum PS3 filesystem is 1TB (512KB block size)
    - maximum FAT32 theoretical size is 8TB, practical limit on the PS3 is 2TB
    - 7200rpm can be used, as well as Flashdrives (although the 1/5th lower loadingtime of GTA5 can be considered too low to justify the higher pricetag of SATA Flashdrives.
    - SATAII-300 can be used, although it will work on SATA1-150 speed interface.
    - If using external 3.5? drives hooked up to the internal SATA, you’ll need an external powersupply (some drivebays include them).
    - If on low budget or you like DIY: use a normal extension (male to female) SATA cable (and make sure it doesn’t get loose) and recycle the case + powersupply of an external USB harddisk (without using the USB connection/conversion).
    - Don’t use RAID or SAN drives with (e)SATA interface, just a plain single drive with a bare SATA connector (many controllers don’t work without drivers/software).
    - Games can be hardcoded for BluRay speeds (9MB/s) so sticking a 85~220MB/s harddrive inside will not speedup everything/allways (but most do).
    - If you plan on exchanging the drive, download the full PUP of your FW you are using and put it on an USB Mass Storage Device formatted with FAT32 in PS3UPDATEPS3UPDAT.PUP and disconnect the LAN before re powering the PS3 (or you’ll bound to end up with the latest (3.55 now) unjailbreakable/undowngradable version).
    - Use a good fitting X screwdriver, the screws fitted to the HD<>tray are made of very soft aluminum.

    (Q) As stated above, 3K and 4K consoles cannot be jailbroken, so am i out of luck as far as Homebrew and Backups are concerned ?
    (A) No, there are a a few devices that will help you play backups and homebrew, they are called ODDE’s, the name of these ODDE’s are E3, 3K3Y and Cobra, you can find information here:

    A: open config.txt, change “spoof_idps=0″ to “spoof_idps=1″ and set “idps=” to the idps you want to use

    Q: Where does it look for config.txt?
    A: It looks for config.txt in the following places and uses the first it is able to open:
    1. /app_home/config.txt
    2. /dev_usb000/psnope/config.txt
    3. /dev_hdd0/game/BLES08890/USRDIR/config.txt

    Q: I spoofed my idps and and activated some content. Why doesn’t it work?

    A: Because your idps is part of the decryption algo. Please set “use_spoofed_idps” to “1″ to fix it.

    Q: Whats a “.klic” file?

    A: Its a decrypted “.rap” file. PSNope supports these as well.

    Q: How can i disable certain System Calls that may be detected?

    A: remove_cfw_syscalls=1

    Q: Will PSNope work on future CFWs?

    A: It should work as is, because there are no version specific offsets being used (unlike the others).

    Q: Is there any chance my console could get bricked by PSNope?
    A: Nope  no changes are being made to your console’s flash.

    Q: Can I use the source code or parts of it in my own projects?
    A: Sure, as long as your project is open source.

    The german developer Iceman2012, author of many homebrew made ​​for the Playstation 3, is back with his latest work, Infoboot Remover.

    A new MAME port for the PS3 has been released by the same guy who ported the E-UAE Amiga Emulator and CDG Player. Below is the readme and a short video.

    MAME 0125 for PS3 release 1

    - compiled by using psl1ght v.2 sdk
    - The full uae documentation is stored in the ‘docs’ subdirectory, here
    you are reading the ps3 port info.

    Features:
    - full set of games, although only older / smaller games are playable
    - simple selection of games (no rescanning or installation, just select the
    game zip file and off you go!)
    - TATE mode switch in the initial menu
    - HW rendering using arcade shader
    - sonfigurable scanlines (off, 10 - 100 % intensity)
    - TV set switch: 16/9 or 4/3
    - 2 player support
    - configurable button layout for individual player
    - sound in 48000 kHz

    Requires:
    - ps3 ready to boot homebrew programs

    Controls:
    In the launch menu:
    - L1 - go to options
    - TRIANGLE - toggle Tate mode
    - SQUARE exit

    In the game:
    - R3 or L1+L2+R1+R2 - display mame menu (to select new game)
    - Left analog and digital - joystick

    The ScummVM emulator for the PS3 has been updated. Read the quoted text below for more information.

    ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed.
    ScummVM supports many adventure games, including LucasArts SCUMM games (such as Monkey Island 1-3, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, …), many of Sierra’s AGI and SCI games (such as King’s Quest 1-6, Space Quest 1-5, …), Discworld 1 and 2, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins 1-3, The Legend of Kyrandia 1-3, many of Humongous Entertainment’s children’s SCUMM games (including Freddi Fish and Putt Putt games) and many more.

    [Update] CEX version released

     
    Libretro has updated Retroarch to V0.9.9 for a variety of systems (Android, GC and Wii) today including PS3 for DEX users:

    PS3 Related Changelog:

    * (PS3) Optimize PS3 video driver extensively - should result in a big latency reduction.
    * (PS3) Totally remove the ‘old’ fixed 2-pass shader system and replace it with a new, forward-compatible with PC 8-pass shader stacking system. RGUI/RMenu makes CGP files dynamically as you set new shader stacks.
    * (Wii/PlayStation3/Xbox 1/Xbox 360) thanks to many code alterations. Performance
    is also much improved on the platforms which could already play them, such as
    Android and PC.
