PS3Hax member, aldostools, responsible for creation of various other tools, has released PS3 FTP client v1.0.

    To quote:

I have made a new toy… these are the features:

    - It rips files (dummies, languages, update, etc) stored on the PS3 HDD/USB via FTP.
    - New simulation mode (shows the results of a rip)
    - If you have a folder with PS3 covers in your PC (eg. MCLUB jpgs), the cover is displayed when a remote folder that matches the titleid is selected (eg. BLES80608)
    - Displays a column with the description of the game (based on the title id)
    - It is a “full” ftp client based on wininet

Download: PS3 FTP Client 1.0 (WIP) 118 KB

It may require the ComCtl32.ocx and VB5 Runtime DLL.

It is still experimental, some features are not complete, but at least the ps3 rip should work…

Final note: Use with care!! Remember that it touches the internal files in the HDD of your PS3.. The PS3RIP is safer.

Some nice news from a ‘real’ developer as opposed to some random text editors.

PS3 Homebrew game developer ThatOtherDev has released a Homebrew game called Neo Trail, here is a quote from the source:

In Neo Trail you control a ship that is constantly moving forward. Once you pass over a square on the grid it will begin to raise up. If you get pushed up onto the top of a fully raised block then the game will reset.

The high score is displayed but not saved.

I’m not sure if it’s similar enough to be considered a clone (although that is what it was originally going to be) but it’s obviously inspired by that movie. You know the one.

Later I might add split screen multiplayer and/or an NPC to play against.

Im sure you all know of the popular text edit mistake, discovered by DeViL303, that resulted in XMB Filemanager, well he got together with a bunch of other text editors over at PS3Crunch.

Anyhow, these guys, which includes work from developer aldostool, have released XMB Manager Plus, here is a quote from the source:

XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+) is a new XMB category based off of REBUG’s “Package Manager”, which is a modded version of the official (debug/Jailbreak) “Install Package Files” XMB option.

This will replace the “Install Package Files” option or for REBUG CFW “Package Manager”.

XMB Manager Plus allows the entire PS3 filesystem to be browsed and/or deleted (all file types supported), We have added functions to REBUG’s
“Package Manager” and renamed it to “Package Manager Plus”, it consists of all previous features plus it now includes new Homebrew Category that has
options to download a selection of popular PS3 homebrew packages. We have also added a new “Game Data Manager” that contains all games data type
tools, like saves, backups, etc. There are plenty more options also available in this new update, see the changelog below.

    Main Features in XMBM+ v0.10

    Package Manager Plus
Allows homebrew/packages to be easily downloaded, installed and deleted.

    File Manager Plus
Browse and Delete files from all locations such as hdd, usb, etc.

    Game Data Manager
Includes all the game data tools from main XMB plus some more additions. Things like Gamedata, Savedata, Backups and trophys are contained here.

    Multi-Media Manager
Browse, Copy, Rename and Play all your PS3′s internal hdds media from one location. All options from the normal XMB categories are available in
    one new combined category.

    Web Links
This section includes links to some popular websites for easier access.

    About
Contains XMBM+ info, links to TBCrunch release thread, updater option, etc.

LV2 Loader is a tool for devs to allow the quick testing of modified lv2_kernel.self by launching it from the root of dev_flash without the risk of bricking the PS3 or need for a flasher if the new kernel does not work.

The app will run on any 3.15, 3.41, 3.55 CEX or DEX firmware that has lv1 mmap and lv2 peek and poke patches. It also has udp_printf support which will return the offset of the lv2 boot path in lv1 and a little bit of info about what it is doing.

It works by searching lv1 memory for the lv2_kernel.self boot path then modifying it to point to the root of dev_flash instead. After it finishes searching and patching the path LV2 Loader will reboot lv2 gameos without rebooting lv1.

If the app has already been ran once and the user attempts to run it again before rebooting lv1 or the current lv2 kernel does not have peek and poke it will return you to the XMB.

    PREPARATION:

Using FTP or multiMAN/file manager place your modified lv2_kernel.self into the root of dev_flash on your PS3.

    HOW TO USE:

    1: Install lv2_loader.pkg
2: Run LV2 Loader from XMB
3: PS3 will beep and reboot. (If you do not hear a beep it has not worked)

    NOTE:

As long as you do not reboot lv1 you can continue to use the new path and change the lv2_kernel.self each time if you wish.

    F.A.Q:

    Q: Can LV2 Loader boot DEX lv2_kernel.self?

A: YES. It will require your PS3 to be QA flagged. Don’t be fooled though. Just because you can boot the DEX lv2 kernel does not mean it will magically function like a DEX. For that to happen it will require more patching but this certainly makes the road easier to figuring it out.

Q: Can LV2 Loader boot lv2_kernel.self from a higher firmware?

A: In testing, booting a 3.56 lv2 kernel resigned for 3.55 worked without any problems. Keep in mind that amongst other things, the ps3 is still using the lower firmware’s appldr so there is no real advantage to doing this at the moment.

Q: Can this brick my PS3?

A: NO, NO, NO. The whole point of LV2 Loader is to prevent this from happening during your development of lv2 patches.

Q: Isn’t the offset for the lv2 boot path the same for all PS3?

A: NO. In testing on five different PS3 we came across seven dramaticly different offsets. Infact one of the PS3 at one stage or another in testing used four of the same offsets as the others and has now returned to the original offset from when we started.

Q: How do I reboot the PS3 without rebooting lv1 hypervisor?

A: Using glevend’s Reboot app will let you reboot the PS3 and maintain the modified lv2 boot path. As a bonus for REBUG users when changing modes with Rebug Selector the PS3 will reboot from the new path as well.

Q:As a user of REBUG firmware, if I boot the DEX lv2 kernel does that mean I am running DEX firmware on a retail PS3?

A: YES. REBUG uses the entire DEX firmware apart from 3 or 4 sprx (to allow QA flag support mainly) and uses the CEX lv2_kernel.self. Booting the DEX lv2_kernel.self will in effect, complete the set.

    Enjoy.

    Codename: REBUG

    Credit and Thanks:

As always to graf and glevend for the hypervisor work.
Big thanks to Dean for the handy memory mapping tip and adding support for LV2 Loader into multiMAN at the last minute.

Today, the developer here by the name of PsDev brings everyone an update to the famous PS3 ToolsGUI Edition style; all of the tools together in a neat little package I like to call PsDev’s “GUI Edition ” PS3 Tools, now making the process easier than ever before! And now, without any further ago, on to the release…

    FEATURES:

    • Can unpack any “PS3″ Firmware up to date. Gets really fast after first or second use.
    • a console is built into the program showing you the exact log a cmd would.
    • Can Decrypt PS3/PSP retail PKG files (Signed by sony installable via OFW).
    • Can readself of, Appldr, lv0, lv1ldr, lv2ldr, isoldr, EBOOT.BIN or if any of the things that you want to read are not listed on a button you can run a custom command to do it, for example: aim_spu_module.self just type that in where it says input and it will read it. So any file that is possible to use via readself, can be done in a fast manor 1-2 sec.
    • A full featured .Conf editor. view .Conf files edit them then hit save button when finished.
    • A awesome Core_os_package tool that can decrypt, extract and encrypt the Core_os_package.pkg all in about 1-2 sec.
    • Sign pkg for 3.55 or 3.41
    • UnSELF a file.
    • Build SELF a file.
    • Whenever a tar file is modified, it’s permissions need to be set, this tool can do that for you. fix the tar file for the following FW. retail fw up to 3.72, debug fw up to 3.72 and retail and debug fw 4.0.

So some where around 20+ total things this multi ps3 tool can do

in to a ps3 file type of some sort in a faster time than any other program around, faster than the cmd line tools.

And the best thing is it’s really simple, 12 year old kids could do it.

    HOW TO USE:

Lets use a example: If you want to unpack a ps3 update just get the PS3UPDAT.PUP

(Don’t change the name of any file in ps3 FW keep original) and put in tool folder, run

my program click unpack and it will unpack it.

so like if you want to fix tar make sure the update_files.tar stays the same name and put in the main folder where program is located. same for anyfile keep the original name. So it’s pretty simpe just drag the file that you want the tool to do something with and keep the original name.

Here is a video I made (I am pretty bad a videos) to help it’ a tutorial that covers everything. If some one else could make a better one that would be awesome

PS3Tools GUI Edition Tutorial. – YouTube

    NOTES:

PS3Tools GUI Edition will create two new files for the Core_os_package. “decrypted_core_os” and “CORE_OS_PACKAGE_ENCRYPTED.pkg” don’t change the name of the decrypted one or else you won’t be able to encrypt it

    BETA TESTER THOUGHTS:

    Tested by jhax78

all those command line tools that takes loads of time

and sometimes commands that you need to understand will be replaced by this 1 click tool

even a trained monkey could extract repack sign with this now

it’s taking literally 3 seconds to extract a pup resign or whatever you need to do

im no dev but like to poke around in stuff and i think more ppl think like this

with this tool all that is just peanuts now

PS3Hax member aldostools has released a nice homebrew tool he is calling: CreatePS3EXTRA

What does it do? To quote:

It scans for the PKG, MP4 and P3T files copied to each game folder or its PS3_UPDATE folder, and store them under a PS3_EXTRA structure. When a game is mounted with multiMAN, there will be 2 BD icons on the XMB: one disc for the game itself and another with PKGs, MP4 and P3T. It should make it easier to install the game patches, DLC, fixes, and related videos.

PS3HaX Developer DeViL303 has updated XMB File Manager(XMBFM), he has two versions and they are both included in the download.

D = Works on Debug Rebug Menu
R = Works on 3.55 OFW/Kmeaw and Retail Rebug Menu

Here is a quote from the thread:

I have updated the release to XMBFM Beta v0.03D and XMBFM Beta v0.03R (with D suffix for 3.55 Debug XMBs and R suffix for 3.55 Retail XMBs)

Gonna Change the suffix next time a its confussing because “R” could be for Rebug but it not, it should work on any 3.55 retail xmb, 3.55 kmeaw , 3.55 Official FW, rebug 3.55 retail xmb(in rebug mode) etc.

Download XMBFM Beta v0.03D and XMBFM Beta v0.03R

PS3HaX member DeViL303 has released an XMB Filemanager, which allows you to browse the entire PS3 filesystem, straight from the XMB, here is a quote from the developer:

I have made a little XMB mod for Rebug 3.55.2 that I call XMB File Manager (XMBFM). It is a modded version of Rebug’s package manager that allows the entire ps3 filesystem to be browsed and also any files types can be seen and deleted. Im hoping to add things like copy function etc but would like to get feedback and help if anyones game?
This wont work on standard CFW for now , only on Rebug , but i will release a standard version in next few days if anyone thinks I should bother. Please like this post as it will encourage me

This is a beta version for anyone who might be interested in helping me test it or improve on it.

Install instructions: It requires you to switch 2 files from dev_flash. heres a quick tut:
    - I use multiman , go to settings near the bottom of menu.
    - select the mount dev_flash to dev_blind option. click enable
    - next go to multiman file manager
    - copy over the 2 files to thier different locations
    - category_game.xml goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/
    - explore_plugin_full.rco goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/
    - next disable dev_blind option in multiman
    - then exit multiman to see your new XMB File Manager

This is perfectly safe and I have even tested deleting most of dev_flash before and its easy reinstall FW through recovery menu so dont worry, just make sure you are on Rebug 3.55.2, It migtht cause a error on normal 3.55CFW

Have fun and let me know if you have an ideas on how I could expand it by adding things like copy function etc. Im not the best at this so any help is much appreciated?

Big Thanks to Cyberskunk and Evilsperm (Team Rebug) for the package manager which this is based on. And also for Rebug CFW.. its my favourite!

Please before anyone flames that this is crap I did only start properly making it last night so give me a little time and maybe it will become cool. (I discovered the “exploit” that allows this back in 2010 but didnt get around to doing anything with it until now)

If anyone wants to explain an easy way of making this into a pkg file I would be delighted to hear or get some help, Im sure its not very difficult but I havnt time to figure out everything and would like this to become even more of a collaboration if anyones interested?

deroad a PS3HaX member, developer and MAJOR contributor to both PS3 Dev Wiki and Vita Dev Wiki, has released a snazzy little home brew app, which he calls Buzzer Player, here is a quote from the thread and readme:

i wrote it for naruse and euss since we was talking on the irc about the buzzer.

maybe someone will find it funny xD

    this is a simple player
it reads two var (var1 and Var2) from a file.

the file must be called buzzer.txt and placed in the main folder of a USB an example:
    on Windows:
My USB is j so, i will put this file here: j:/buzzer.txt

on OSX: My USB is 8GB so,
i will put this file here: /Volumes/8GB/buzzer.txt

on LINUX: My USB is 8GB so,
i will put this file here: /media/8GB/buzzer.txt

    ======Beeps=======
    Var1 Var2 DESCRIPTION
    4 6 Makes a short single beep
    10 438 Makes a double beep
    7 54 End
    10 4095 Makes a continuous beep

PS3 Developer KaKaRoTo has given a status update regarding his work on getting homebrew running on 3.56 PS3′s, there are quite a few revelations, none of which are a shock, so here is a quote from KaKaRoTo’s blog:

Here’s a “quick” status update on the 4.00 HEN (Homebrew ENabler) for PS3.

Following my clarifications from almost 2 months ago here, there has been a lot of progress. We have not been slacking off, we’re a group of about 10 developers working together for the last 2 months, for sometimes 15 hours everyday in order to bring back homebrew support to the latest version of the PS3.

There are three major parts to the HEN, first, getting the packages to install on the PS3, that part is done, completed, tested, debugged, etc.. the second part is to get the apps to run, that one still has major issues… the last part is something I will not discuss for now (it’s a surprise) but it’s about 60% to 70% done (and it has nothing to do with peek&poke and has nothing to do with backup managers or anything like that. This is and will stay a piracy-free solution for the PS3).

Now, running apps is the biggest challenge that we’ve been working on for the past 2 months. As some of you know, if you’ve been following me on Twitter, we originally had hoped for Mathieulh to give us the “npdrm hash algorithm” that was necessary to run the apps, but he was reluctant, he kept doing his usual whore so people would kiss his feet (or something else) so he’d feel good about himself. But in the end, he said that he refuses to give us the needed “npdrm hash algorithm” to make it work… So what I initially thought would be “this will be released next week” ended up taking a lot more time than expected, and we’re still nowhere near ready to make it work.

Mathieulh kept tossing his usual “riddles” which he thinks are “very helpful for those who have a brain”, and which pisses off anyone who actually does… so he told us that the solution to all our problems was to look in appldr of the 3.56 firmware.. and that it was something lv1 was sending appldr which made the “hash check” verified or not… so we spent one month and a lot of sweat and after killing a few of our brain cells out of exhaustion, we finally concluded that it was all bullshit. After one month of reading assembly code and checking and double-checking our results, we finally were able to confirm that that hash algorithm was NOT in the 3.56 firmware like he told us (at all).

He said that it was an AES OMAC hash, but after tracking all the uses of the OMAC functions in appldr, we found that it was not used for the “hash”… he then said “oh, I meant HMAC“, so we do that again and again come up with the same conclusion, then we’re sure it’s not in appldr, and then he says “ah no, it’s in lv1“.. have a look for yourself to what he decided to write : http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=Talk:KaKaRoTo_Kind_of_%C2%B4Jailbreak%C2%B4

That happened after the huge twitter fight I had with him for being his usual arrogant ass and claiming that he “shared” something (For your information, the code that he shared was not his own, I have proof of that too (can’t show you the proof because even if I don’t respect him, I gave him my word to not share what he gave me, and I respect my word) since he forgot to remove the name of the original developer from one of the files… also it was completely useless and was not used at all, just made me waste a day reading the crappy undocumented code. So why is he still trying to force his “advice” through these riddles even after we had that fight? Well to sabotage us and make us lose all those months of hard work!

PSP Dev Wololo is working away on the PS Vita, here is a list of Homebrew Applications he has managed to get running on the PS Vita, using HBL on the the PSP Emulator:

    • snes9xTYL
    • Bookr
    • CSPSP
    • T.O.M.E.
    • EmuMaster
    • Zombie Crisis
    • Wagic
    • cavestory
    • Picodrive
    • Spider solitaire
    • ScummVM
    • Daedalus
    • FCEU-PSP

Here is a quote from the source:

I got major homebrews to work, and now I’ll focus on reporting this to the EU and US version, which both need to be brought up to speed with these latest changes.

From what I could see, syscall estimation basically doesn’t work (which is what JJS discovered a while ago when porting HBL to 6.60), which will limit the amount of homebrews that can be played with this exploit, but as you can see on the video, I got a few good ones to run already
