We never post PSP News, but this one is quite interesting, developer Sonywiz has updated his PSP Emulator for Windows, here is a quote from the source:

    This version has major improvements:

    • Module loading (this allow more games to run, including some software like PRX Decrypter or LUA Player)
    • Automatical EBOOT decryption. It will decrypt EBOOTs on the fly. This will allow lots and lots of new games to start running. (But still requires some work to get most of them ingame).
    • Note: with those improvements I have noticed lots of games start running, and some more starting like: Princess Crown and Ys The Ark of Napishtim.

    Minor improvements:

    • Now you can drag & drop executable files on the emulator window
    • Implemented bltzal/bltzall required for some games
    • Implemented DXT1
    • Fixed DX3 RB
    • Added lots of new APIs and fixed some of them.
    • Added a new versioning system. Releases now are denoted by the date eg: 20120407, git revision: 959572e63973662303c2dfd80f6fb60eaebb4072, and now also a count revision r256. This is an incremental number that indicates the number of commits to the repository.

I wasn’t going to bother posting about Venix Autopatcher, but then a PS3HaX member made a thread asking about it, so here is a quote from the link that Euss posted.

Some portuguese dude (somehow venix name reminds me of a fake bricker CFW and highly hyped and never released manager long time ago) apparently never found ps3devwiki guides or used flowrebuilder/winskeet autopatcher or hexeditor with autopatch scripts.

Tests where done on the software:

Conclusion : USELESS, brickdumps will still show as ‘valid’ and corrupt patch files will be generated, not preventing the user from permabricking.

Recommendation: Validate flash dumps first and use Flowrebuilder or Winskeet with autopatcher instead.

So this is just a friendly warning to PS3HaX members, to not use this tool and remember if you are unsure about something, check the PS3Dev Wiki.

Last September, Sony made a controversial change to their T.O.S, implementing an Individual Binding Arbitration, which meant, that once you agreed to those T.O.S, you could no longer take Sony to court, over any wrong doing or mistake caused by them on the PSN service.

On November last year, a PS3 owner filled a lawsuit against Sony, stating that the company engaged in unfair and tortious conduct when they required PS3 owners to agree to a new T.O.S, here is a small quote from the court document:

The imposition of the Agreement was unfair, plaintiff argues, because without
any consideration the Agreement altered the parties’ contractual relationship and imposed for the first
time requirements that PSN users agree to submit disputes between the user and Sony to arbitration and
waive their right to resolve disputes through a class action. Id. Users had to accept the terms of the
Agreement in order to continue accessing the PSN. Id., ¶ 2. Users were able to opt out of the arbitration
clause and class action waiver provisions, after they agreed to the Agreement. Id., ¶ 18. However,
plaintiff alleges that defendants put up barriers and discouraged users from opting out by imposing
onerous requirements, including requiring opt outs to be submitted in a written notice by mail. Id.
Defendants move to dismiss the complaint, arguing that plaintiff does not have standing under
the UCL – which requires a showing that plaintiff lost “money or property” as “a result” of defendants’
conduct – and because no cause of action for tortious breach of the implied covenant of good faith and
fair dealing exists under California law outside of insurance coverage disputes. Plaintiff opposes that
motion and the matter is now before the Court.

Now im sure you wont be surprised that the court dismissed this case, just like they dismissed the OtherOS lawsuit, so it seems that Sony are allowed to do what ever they want, you spend hundreds of pounds on PSN content, only to be told that you have to get rid of OtherOS in order to keep access to all that content you bought, only for a year year later you must go through the same type of decision again.

A few days we posted here, regarding information Kotaku had received concerning the PlayStation 4, since then gaming website IGN have revived some information regarding the PS4 or PS Orbis, here are a few of the details:

The PlayStation 4, reportedly codenamed Orbis, may utilize custom chips based on AMD’s A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, sources have told IGN, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

According to the official product specs, the A8-3850 packs a quad-core 2.9GHz processor with an integrated graphics chip. The APU will work in tandem with the system’s dedicated GPU, the HD 7670, a DirectX 11-enabled card clocked to 1GHz with up to 1GB of dedicated VRAM.

Remember, this is all rumour and has yet to be confirmed or denied by Sony.

The government and it seems to be mainly the US government wants to spy on and censor everything we do, for the internet they try and enforce such things as P.I.P.A and A.C.T.A, not content in trying to stop us enjoying the internet we use, the US government, specifically the Department of Homeland Security, want tools to basically “hack” into our games consoles and check to see if we are terrorist’s or paedophiles, here are a few snippets from the source:

Government researchers say that hacking into consoles will allow police to catch pedophiles and terrorists.

At the cutting edge of this development is Obscure Technologies, a small San Francisco-based company that performs computer forensics and which has just been awarded a $177,237 sole-source research contract to develop “hardware and software tools that can be used for extracting data from video game systems,” and “a collection of data (disk images; flash memory dumps; configuration settings) extracted from new video game systems and used game systems purchased on the secondary market,” according to the contract award from the U.S. Navy.

Thing about it: Your Nintendo Wii might tell government investigators when you were connected to the Internet, who you were talking to, what you were saying, and what you were playing. “Taken in context, it could end up revealing more than you expect,” Higgins warns.

Many people have varied opinions on how the “scene” should support TB2, and generally there has been 2 groups: those that love the dongle for their work, and those that despise it for plaguing the scene. However, new news over from the TB2 website giving basically a threat to all TB2 cloners:

A warning to those considering or having already purchased a True Blue clone: we have previously implemented special anti-clone technology in the True Blue firmware which accurately detects clones and when such a clone is detected, will activate one of several effects at random intervals, such as erasing the internal PS3 HDD. The recent JBKing 2.5 software update is especially affected by these measures; anyone using this clone will be subject to data loss as a result of random HDD erasure as well as other effects. Other anti-clone measures are now being developed and will be deployed shortly.

Clones of True Blue will be blocked and future EBOOT’s will not function with such devices. It is therefore important that users, in the interests of enjoyment and to avoid wasting money on trivially detectable clones, should purchase only original True Blue devices

Clearly quite an “asshole” move by them. Is this a sign that TB2 is about to get cracked and are moving to panic mode? Or is this threat just a bluff? Let us know via comments below.

Please refrain from flaming…we all know everyones stance on the DRM dongles here.

Benjamin Grobler a South African inventor, along with his attorneys Christopher Banys and Richard C. Lin from the The Lanier Law Firm, have filled a lawsuite against both Sony and Apple for infringing patent laws, here is a quote from the source for a better understanding than i can explain:

The inventor of technology used in data vending systems such as the iTunes and Playstation Network systems has sued Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc. (NYSE: APPL) and Foster City, Calif.-based Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (NYSE: SNE) for patent infringement.

Inventor Benjamin Grobler is represented by intellectual property attorneys Christopher Banys and Richard C. Lin from the Palo Alto, Calif., office of The Lanier Law Firm. The lawsuits filed March on 27, 2012, allege that Apple and Sony are infringing U.S. Patent No. 6,799,084.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued the ‘084 patent to Mr. Grobler in 2004. The patent covers data vending systems that allow users to store and manage digital music, video, software and other items on a variety of electronic devices.

According to the lawsuit, Apple and Sony have infringed the patent by making and offering infringing data vending systems such as iTunes and the Playstation Network, and that the companies are inducing their customers’ infringement by using these systems.

“You would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t listened to music or watched a video through iTunes or the Playstation Network,” says Mr. Banys, head of the nationwide intellectual property practice at The Lanier Law Firm. “Tech giants can’t just take an inventor’s work and use it as their own. This lawsuit represents our client’s effort to bring some accountability to the system.”

The cases are Benjamin Grobler v. Apple Inc., No. CV-12-1534, and Benjamin Grobler v. Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC, No. CV-12-1526. Both are pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Im wondering why it has taken this inventor so long to take action against both these companies.

OK so before i make any kind of write up or post, im going to make this one statement, to the Twitter/IRC b*tches that like running their mouth when i make a mistake, take a notice of the double RUMOUR tags, so keep your statements and anti PS3 crap to each others rectums.

Now to the loyal PS3HaX members and those of you following the PS3 scene with passion and the hope of something happening, for the hope of a 4.11 MFW/CFW, waiting on KaKaRoTo making a breakthrough with his work, you guys may be in for an awesome surprise or a very huge let down.

It started a few days ago when an unknown person, named Nodex stated that he was going to “pwn” lv0, here is a quote from his thread:

Hi i’m Nodex. Nobody knows me, let it be. Just look to the topic name

First lv0 then a bootldr. Here lv0 dump but one side. More pastes coming.

    ..pastes..
    lv0 dump (one side) - http://pastebin.com/p6a9rmpB (firmware 3.73).
    lv0 stuff http://pastebin.com/FikAQPcE
chain of trust/bootldr? last things maybe keys? http://pastebin.com/kn9pDQDJ

try to hook loaders induced from the bootldr, only acces to lv1  - experimental, bad idea.
    http://pastebin.com/93H8ZBpE

lv0 access, some keys disclosed! (last things) - http://pastebin.com/zWt4tcYW

    No twitters.
    No contact.
    Just this topic.

    Question & Answers
    Who are you?
Is that you really care? I will say more in the future.

Why u do it on FW 3.73?
I tested few FWs, and some things just won’t work.
example: on FW 4.10 i’m not allowed to dump. Need another exploit/road.

    No twitter, contact why?
Not yet, why? lot of people will start to ask. No time for answers.

    What equipment do you have?
Programmers, adapters, diagnostic devices. Yes UART too

    Can you explain your knowledge?
I could but it’s not that simple. This is much
    1. Describe the way to exploit in order to obtain the necessary dumps.
    2. Describe the operation and use of equipment.
    So not yet.

The thread can be found here.

Then last night well known PS3HaX member zadow28 posted this thread:

got this info in a PM

the *.a files from the sdk is actuelly elf files packed.

you can rename all *.a files from the sdk to elf, and then run readelf on them.

you would see where all the elf files write.

have been looking at the libsecure and found out where all the crypto is reading/writing.

these are the elf that sony uses to encrypt/decrypt all there elf/bin/sprx

if you look at the libsecure there are 2 kind of *.a file normal and _d in the ending

i thing one encrypt one decrypt.

So i tryed it and it worked

Full information can be read here.

So today Nodex claims to have created a 4.11 MFW using zadow28′s information, here is a quote from that thread:

Hi it’s Nodex  After do my job http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=36046, I gathered a few things that allowed me to modify the firmware. So I used too a method given by the zadow to decrypt some things http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=36112. And so I made this I do not recommended to install it without E3 Flasher (During the flash may have problems). But in my phat operation was a success.

    Completed things
-can be install from OFW 4.11!
    -added install package files/app_home categories
    -lv2 kernel patched sucessfully

    Not fixed/patched
    -no homebrew yet
    -lv1 hypervisor is not patched

It’s no for Debug Consoles only for Retail

    To install
    1.Rename nodex.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP
2.Put the update file in PS3/UPDATE/ on pendrive
    3.You are ready to update!

    Thread and download here.

Now either all of a sudden the scene has come alive and we have a new CFW, or as my suspicious mind tells me, we are being trolled to celebrate April Fools, now regardless, DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT install this MFW, just read the threads and enjoy, wait for confirmation from well known devs and remember this news story is a rumour, so treat it as such….

In case you didn’t quite understand the above message, ill write it in red as i know that catches your eye :p

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT INSTALL THIS MFW
