PS3MediaServer, is probably the most popular media server for the PS3, the only other real options are WMP11 or Tversity, well now we have a new media server for the PS3, it is created by Roberto Bender and is in early alpha stages, here is a quote from the author:

NJ (Not Java) Media Server is, by the way, a media server :) . It’s built in C# and targets the Playstation 3 system.

PSX Scene member zembor0 has released an awesome app, that will let create your own Dynamic Themes with ease, he has also added a tutorial to aid you in creating those themes, on top of that, he has also released a tutorial on how to create your own colour/color boot animations, here they are:

How to create a custom dynamic theme

    You will need:
    1. Dynamic theme editor
    2. Photoshop
    3. Photoshop dds plugin Available here

In this guide I will show you how to make this:

    Guide:

Run Dynamic theme editor and select Price of Persia

Select “open” under step 2. This will show you the folder of images that you can edit. In this guide I will edit “CircularSmoke_01.gtf_1” and “SOT_Theme_BackGround.gtf_1” and “TrilogyLogo.gtf_1”. Simple open photoshop, open each image in turn and copy and paste the provided images bellow into each dds file. You need to past it on the RGB layer and the alpha layer.

    TrilogyLogo.gtf_1
    SOT_Theme_BackGround.gtf_1
    CircularSmoke_01.gtf_1

If you want to change the icons in the xmb click the open button next to step 3. You can then edit the png files. Don’t change the resolution for format of the image.

Now click the theme details button and change them as you like.

Click the browser button and select where you want to save your theme.
The Prince of Persia theme that we are editing has lots of other pictures that we have not edited, so we don’t want to show them. This is where we ick which effects we want to remove. Tick them as shown:

Finally press start, you should see a black bock pop up at the bottom of that it will say “press enter”. So press enter when prompted. Now you should have your theme in you save destination.

An unknown developer, has created a handy little script, which will extract the unique license code embedded in retail and debug PKG’s, here is a quote from the source:

An anonymous developer has released a K_License Extractor for use on retail and debug PKGs. The k_license is a unique license string generated and embedded in PSN and other PKG files. The script will retrieve and display this k_license when ran. Please note the app is in the form of a python script and meant for experienced devs.

emersons35 is an up and coming PS3 dev, he is responsible for the awesome PS3 ToolKit, now he has released a homebrew app, that lets one customize and clean up their rco files, here is a quote from the source:

Homebrew train is on its way.
    BACKGROUND
RCOs are a bunch of xml files encrypted together,
you can mod these with RCOMage and make custom strings on your xmb.
RAFs are Video files. the only one that is a raf is coldboot.raf, which is the boot logo. Can be made with ColdBoot Maker. Tutorial Here.
AC3s are of course audio files, which is the boot sound.

I might make a tutorial on modding RCOs for noobs if i receive some positive feedback.

    CUSTOMIZE

    To Customize
    1. put flash drive into computer and make the folder structure of customize/modz(example F:/customize/modz)
    2. put all your customized files in that folder.
    3. make sure all the names of the files are the same as the orginal(case sesitive)
    4. copy ES35′s Customize v0.1.geohot.pkg to the root of your flash drive (example F:/)
    5. put that flash drive into the ps3, and go to install pkg files.
    6. install ES35′s Customize v0.1.geohot.pkg
    7. scroll down to ES35′s Customize v0.1
    8. observe the great graphics of the icon and background image, and remember to donate.
    9. open it, and click install.
    10. quit.

    To Clean up
    1. Open it, press the up and down dpad buttons to scroll to clean it up.
    2. press X.
    3. quit.

2615863 now using the name TeamSOS, has released a huge update to his PKG Downloader, it now has full game downloads and 60 minute time trials, it dosnt yet have European content, but 2615863 is working on it, here is a quote from the change log:

    Changelog:
-Switched Latest Update Host (Fileden, Still sucks)
    -Adds Full Games
    -Adds 60 Min Trials (Ps+)
    -Adds new splash screen
    -Adds new about page
    -New logo
    -Adds new Icon
    -Took off donations

    Source PSGroove

NOTE THIS WILL ONLY WORK WITH GAMES YOU OWN AND THAT YOU PREVIOUSLY HAD INSTALLED ON YOUR PS3.

    EDIT
It seems i am having to post why this tool is very useful, because some people don’t understand, here is a quote from my forum post:

1.) You are on CFW, you used to have a game on your console, but you deleted that game because you need the space, then a week later you really want to play the game, but have no access to PSN, so you cant get it.

That is where this tool comes in handy, you can use this tool to download that game and because it already was on your console, it is already activated and as long as you never delete your activation data, you will be able to delete this game and install as many times as you want using this tool.

2.) Downloading with this tool is faster for some people than downloading via PSN.

A few days ago, PSGroove member 2615863 released an app, that gave users an easy way to download the DLC, they previously owned, but did not have any more, thye app was decent, but was on the untidy side, you can read about it here.

Today 2615863 has released v.2 of his app, it is not a lot tidier looking, though is still limited in the quantity of DLC it has access to, regardless, it is a decent app to have, here is the change log:

    Changelog v2.0.0.0
    -Completely new design
-Donate is now linked to a new form which is a webrowser

3.60 Version Spoofer V1.1 is out and it allows psn access. If you install this you don’t need to install the PS3ita CFW. It works online even now, here is a quote from the source:

***** THIS ALLOWS PSN ACCESS ***** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK *****

    ***** FOR 3.55 ONLY **** FOR 3.55 ONLY ***** FOR 3.55 ONLY *****

3.60 Version Spoofer is working for now. This allows PSN access but DOES NOT use the PS3ITA CFW patch. NO new CFW, F@ckPSN or PC needed.. Once the PS3 is spoofed it will stay spoofed until it is uninstalled.

Press CROSS to INSTALL 3.60 Version Spoof (the status will change after 15 – 45 seconds telling you to reboot)

Press CIRCLE to UNINSTALL 3.60 Version Spoof (the status will change after 15 – 45 seconds telling you to reboot)

If you have before today, downloaded a version 0.6 of f**ckPSN, then you have downloaded a version that reportedly doesn’t work well, drizzt has released his version of f**ckPSN, here is a quote from the source:

The official f**kPSN v0.6 is released.

That version does not send consoleid on PSN servers when you connect, so you are quite anonymous!
f**kPSN is a simple SSL proxy, used to spoof your PSN version and re-enable PSN access for your console.
Please do not download that version that is no official and it does not work.

    Prerequisite

    • CA27.cer, dev_blind.pkg, f**kPSN-v0.6.exe from here
    • OpenPS3FTP v1.3 or later, you can download 1.5 from here

    ChangeLog

v0.6: Use an empty consoleid. Warning: be sure to get my 0.6 version
v0.5: Add support for firmwares older than 3.55
    v0.4: Don’t use PS3DNS anymore
    Installation

    1. Install dev_blind.pkg and OpenPS3FTP on your PS3 (using FTP, external USB or what else)
    2. Launch dev_blind and make it mount the flash
    3. Open OpenPS3FTP
    4. Connect via FTP to PS3 (using username root and password openbox)
    5. Go to /dev_blind/data/cert
    6. Rename CA27.cer to CA27.cer.bak
    7. Put my CA27.cer as /dev_blind/data/cert/CA27.cer
    8. Set the PS3’s PRIMARY and SECONDARY DNS server to your PC’s IP address
    9. Reboot your PS3
    10. Start f**kPSN-v0.6.exe
    11. Enjoy with PSN

    Warnings

If you have followed the OLD guide you need to rename the original CA27.cer to CA27.cer.bak and (my) CA24.cer to CA27.cer and you have to restore the old CA24.cer, by renaming CA24.cer.bak to CA24.cer
This is needed since some games use the original CA24.cer
If you lost original cert, you can take it here
    FAQs

Q: f**kPSN does not start or prints “Address already in use” as error
A: Close anything that is using port 80 or 443, try also to close skype and to disable ICS if you are using it.

Remember a while back, due to Waninkoko’s inexperience with the PS3, his first attempt at CFW was a disaster and caused many consoles to be bricked, those of you that have a brick, you are in luck, Nesi_Tor from Team Hades has written a program to help you unbrick your PS3, here is what it does:

    - Check and analyze the dump correcting the flaws that have this and thus repairing the internal firmware of our PS3.
    - It can extract the various files that make up the core of our PS3 (read lv2_kernel.self, eurusfw.bin, etc …).
    - Lets look at both full NAND Dumps as desenciptados CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg packages provided to analyze your files.
    - Finds and extracts the User Profile (EID, bootloaders, etc) the dump interlaced with the flow rebuilder.

It has only been a couple of days since EmersonS35 released v1.60 of his toolkit, which he has just updated today, with some bug fix’s and GUI rearrangements, EmersonS35 also released a tutorial on how to use the application, here it is:

    Guide/Contents:
    01:UnPKG
    02:UnSelf
    03:EnSelf
    04:EnPKG
    05:ConVERT

    01:UnPKG
    Info:
    Decrypts/unpacks PKG files

    HowTo:
Simply Find a PKG you want to decrypt and drag it in the the textbox under unPKG. Then Click Decrypt.

    DeTails:
If it is a 3.55 (reatail) and a 3.41 (debug), if WILL decrypt
If it is a Firmware PKG, it will not decrypt, YET.

    02:UnSelf
    Info:
    Decrypts Debug .BINs/SELFs

    HowTo:
Find a DEBUG eboot.bin you want to decrypt and drag and drop it on to the textbox below UnSelf.
    Retails are NOT supported. YET.

    DeTails:
Once someone released a npdrm decrypter, will have a retail decrypter.
because we cannot decrypt retails we cannot convert it a retail to 3.41. so any dev that have a npdrm decrypter please message me.

    03:EnSelf
    Info:
    Encrypts .elfs into .SELFs

    HowTo:
Drag and drop your elf that you want to encrypt into the textbox.
Put in the content ID of what your eboot will be.

    DeTails:
It needs to match the PARAM.SFO and what the over all Content ID of the PKG will be.
So what i would do is, open your PARAM.SFO with the sfo editor included and look at the content ID There. copy and Paste it into the content ID textbox. If you are determining which content ID to use, match the content ID of the Eboot to The PARAM and match the PKG to the Eboot. That wayy all three have the same. and that is what you want.

    Notez:
The new eboot.bin will be 10x times smaller, because it was compressed defferently.

    Bugz:
Sometime it will refuse to copy the new .self file back to the directory it came from. It is in the folder where my program is located. sorry for the inconvenience and this will be patched in the next update.
To Fix this simply drag the .SELF back to the folder it came from delete the old .BIN and .ELF. Reaname it from “eboot.SELF” to “eboot.BIN”

    04:EnPKG
    Info:
Uses a PKG folder, a Conf, and a Content ID to Encrypt a retail PKG.

    HowTo:
First we need a conf. this show the encryptor how to encrypt the PKG. so click the “Make Conf” button and a toolbox appears. I recommend that you use advanced mode. Make the middle part the same as you put for you eboot and param and generate the conf.
Drag the conf into the conf textbox.
Drag in the folder of your PKG. More details on that on the “about PKG folder” button.
Now match the last ID to all the other ones you have put.

    DeTails:
Simple mode of the conf maker have been known for bugs.
again.. all of these must match.
    PARAM.SFO
    EBOOT.BIN
    your.conf
    PKG

    Bugz:
If this is not working properly, check the folder of the program for it.
i’ll fix it in the next update.
Please be patient, this is a free program.

    05:ConVERT
    Info:
This is the best part of my ToolKit.
lets say your on 3.55, and your making homebrew.
you compile you homebrew and it gives you a debug .PKG
well you on 3.55, how do you convert it to test it?
Well, Use this quick, easy, painless.

    HowTo:
drag the .PKG file you want to decryot in to the textbox
drag the conf file you want to use for it in to its textbox.
    (make one from conf maker)
put in the contentID like usual.
In this one i also need JUST the middle part.

    DeTails:
    Doesn’t Support the Log.
Gives you the contentID as the name, so you might wanna change it.
the file size is roughly 1/4th the size of original.

    Bugz:
    There are none. hell ya.
Easiest ever converter. works %100 perfect.

Many, many of you have been asking for NTFS support on the PS3, for several months now, well it appears that your wish has come true, ps3-hacks have posted Playstation File System Libraries, which lets you add NTFS support to your Homebrew app’s, multiMan with NTFS support may not be far off, here is a quote from the read me:

    == Introduction ==

Playstation File System is a set of libraries designed primarily to support new
filesystems. The main aim was to provide support for reading NTFS from Sony PS3
GameOS. At this moment writing is not supported and is not currently planned.

    Supported features:
    * Support for multiple simultaneously connected devices.
    * Hot swapping of devices.
    * Support for multiple partitions (with different FS).
    * NTFS support
    - Alternate data streams
    - Sparse files
    - File compression
    - B+ trees directory
    * FAT support
    - FAT12, FAT16, FAT32
    - Long file names (VFAT)

    Limitations:
    * Userland Mass Storage device driver is tested on a small set of devices.
    * Concurrent access to files on one disc is not supported.
    * It supports only the ASCII subset of Unicode (UTF-16).
    * Read only access.

    DOWNLOAD

    Source

    UPDATE

For those wondering how this works, don’t bother this is really for devs/homebrew devs. The libraries have to be implemented in future CFW’s which would give you the ability to play games with files 4gb+ (only works atm with HOMEBREW meaning while your playing a game this does not work). Hang tight, we will report to you on latest updates to your favorite firmwares/BMs.

Whilst a few of us have been adding our own custom boot sounds and more recently, custom boot logo’s, other’s have found it a bit daunting, though you need worry no more, Cyberskunk well known in the scene for his work on Rebug Me and recently xReg Plus v1.0, has released a useful homebrew app, that will let you backup your original Coldboot.raf/AC3 and replace it with a custom one of your own, here is a quote from his website:

Coldboot Installer is a small app to easily install your custom coldboot .raf and .ac3 files from USB000 (Slot furthest right).

You need to create a folder on the root of your USB stick called coldboot. This where you place your custom coldboot files.

Coldboot Installer can also back up you current coldboot files. It backs them up in the app’s USRDIR and to the root of USB000 if present with a .bak extention.

    ***** BACKUP/RESTORE COLDBOOT FILES *****
Press SELECT to BACKUP the CURRENT coldboot files
(This will overwrite your previous backup)
Press START to RESTORE coldboot files from BACKUP

****** INSTALL NEW COLDBOOT FILES ******
Press CROSS to INSTALL new coldboot.raf and AC3 files
Press SQUARE to INSTALL a new coldboot.raf
Press CIRCLE to INSTALL new coldboot AC3 files

Cyberskunk has released an app called xReg Plus v1.0 which can re-enable dlc that would otherwise require you to sign in to psn and activate it. This is suppose to be only for legal dlc you have purchased. Read the actual article below.

DISCLAMER: This software can be used to enable LEGALLY obtained DLC (downloaded content) if your console has become deactivated. It contains NO ‘Official SCE’ code and was made using open source SDK psl1ght. The responsibility IS on the end-user to use this software in accordance with his/her own country’s/region’s copyright laws.

xReg Plus is a simple app that will allow you to backup and restore your xRegistry.sys file to/from USB. Good for instantly restoring your settings and access to your save data again after a Service Mode install.

1: Press SELECT to BACKUP xRegistry.sys to root of USB000

2: Press START to RESTORE xRegistry.sys from root of USB000

    Also includes Activation Reviver.
You must have a backup of your act.dat file and the exdata folder must already exist in dev_hdd0/home/00000001/ (Currently that is the only address it copies to).

    How it works..

1: Place act.dat onto root of USB stick and place in USB000 (slot furthest right)

2: Press CIRCLE to TRANSFER act.dat to xReg Plus (XREG00001/USRDIR) from USB

3: Press CROSS to RESTORE act.dat to PS3 exdata directory
Once this is done you only have to use step 3 each time you reboot and want to play DLC.

    Enjoy.. Cyberskunk
