I just bought this PS3 slim for cheap(now I know why) and for some reason, the disc wont automatically get sucked in. I have to manually push the disc all the way in, press eject, then quickly slide the disc out then back in and it will suck it in. It reads the discs fine and ejects fine, but just gets annoying after having to always do it. I usually leave a CD in the PS3 always, and when I eject it I can quickly insert another disc. Anyone know why this is happening?

I have here a CECHK 04 with the following symptom :
When I turn the rear switch there is no red light at all, checked manually the psu, I got the 5V for the standby and the 12V rail is working.
I have bypassed the ps3 on switch (by shorting the 2 white wires on psu), but the mobo doesn't turn ON, no fan, hdd etc.
Checked all fuses, nothing wrong, what could be the issue ?

Need a little Blu Ray help with CECHE01 http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=78567&goto=newpost Sat, 18 Oct 2014 19:45:53 GMT
So I have a ps3 that had YLOD problem. Took to a guy and he fixed it, however the damn thing sounds like it's going to take off or blow dry somebody's hair off. Just WAY TOO LOUD. He said he put some mod on the fan so that it would go faster and the repair would last longer. Well really, I'm just not that into it to have that super loud anoying fan going, so....

I found another same model ps3 40 bucks for by fluke that had no blue ray drive but was in working condition otherwise besides a hdd error, but that I figured out quickly was only because the drive wasn't seated correctly. So, I took my blueray out of my ps3 and hooked it up to the one that I just purchased. Seems to work fine but the blu ray does not even show up in the menu. At first I assumed that either I had installed it incorrectly somehow or that possibly somethign was fried on the mainboard.

After doing some reading it appears that it might instead very well be that I need to somehow marry the blue ray from my old system to the system I just purchased??? I have been looking for some info on how to do this and then also if it's model specific. I'm getting bogged down in too much information, and not finding what I'm looking for.

Can someone tell me first if it's even possible to do what I'm trying to do? And secondly if it is possible, where can I find the process to do this? My apologies if this is an easy task or if it's easy to find, but I have looked and I can't find specifics.

Thanks in advance!!!!

PS. I'm currently doing a system restore. I thought that it might fix the issue, but it's probably not.

Model: 2501b
Board rev: JSD-001
CFW: rogero 4.46 w/ cobra

Background: I'm an electrician with a AA in computers focus on hardware. 10 successful Xbox re-flows 2 successful re-ball on Xbox

The problem I'm having: Two weeks ago I received my E3 flasher. I flashed mine and a friends PS3. Three days ago I installed gran turismo 5. When I started the game, I was connected to WiFi (not PSN) and it automatically asked if i wanted to update the game. I said yes. It had 27 updates to install. I turned off the TV and left. When i got back, the PS3 had turned itself off. It was working great before that. Now, when I push the button the red standby light lit up. Pushed it again it turns green for 1 to 3 seconds then no lights at all. So for 3 days, I've been combing over ps3hax for posts that seem to know whats up. General consensus says its either, bad power supply, corrupt flash or re-flow/re-ball southbridge.

What I have tried: Swapped power supply with one from a 2001b (not same power supply), tristate to ground(no effect). checked the fuses, have not yet tried re-flow yet.

To me it feels like a power supply issue, but when I swapped it out no difference. When I try to find a good pin-out for my power supply there are inconstancy's (not all faq's are created equal). If i short the wrong ones, I cook the power supply, so I have not tried that. As for the tristate, I look at a lot of posts and pics. I think I got the right point. but gut feeling says I might not have. I have not yet tried re-flowing it because I'm not sure how similar the process and profile is to the Xbox.

My questions:
1) Can updating games online cause a firmware to get corrupted? (no PSN)
2) Can power supplies that are not the same be swapped out? (the 2501b comes with EADP-200DB)
3) What is the real pin out for this power supply?
4) Do I need to removed CPU/GPU heat shims before re-flowing?
5) Should I re-flow just the southbridge or the the CPU/GPU as well?
6) Should I try anything else before I re-flow it?
7) Is there a way to generate or retrieve error codes?

Note: This is my first post here, although I have skills repairing Xbox360, this is a new platform for me. I don't want to spend months searching through old and invalid crap just to find whats become a simple answer. So please don't hate. tutorial links are perfectly exceptable

Hi. I wired up a teensy and made a dump of the nand and verified it. I then went on to patch the nand and wrote it back onto the console. When I turn it on all i get is a green led with no video. I disconnected the teensy and realized that the F6 pad had lifted. I attempted to do a trace repair on the pad but it still doesn't work.

Here is a picture.

So I have an extra COK-001 board, where I once tried to downgrade it by taking off its NAND chips. It did not really go as planned since I ended up bending the pins all over the place, but before that happened I managed to secure a good valid dump from both nands. Both of them indicated no bad blocks.

Since I have some COK-002 boards and some SEM-001 boards laying around, would it be possible to use these NAND chips on the COK-001 board, and flash over the two nand dumps from it? The three main issues I hope to get answered:

1: Does anyone know the difference between the K9F1G08U0A-PIB0 and the K9F1G08U0B-PIB0? I have seen on the DevWiki that they stand for generation, and the datasheet seems to show only minor differences, no trivial differences.

2: Would it be possible to use the B-version for the COK-001? (It uses the A-version). And could you perhaps even mix them, so one A-version and one B-version?

3: Also, I assume the new replacement nands also need to have no bad blocks like the original nands, otherwise it won't work??

Cheers :)

Hi everyone. Im pretty new to the playstaion scene so please be forgiving if I sound misinformed. My friend found a fat playsation 3 years ago and its been sitting in his closet untouched. Just recently he gave it to me and he didnt even turn it on so he had no knowledge if it worked or not. Turns out that it has the YLOD. I did a brief google search on it and I identified that right away. When the playstation is powered on, the yellow light goes on and then powers off followed by blinking red lights. I decided I would try to resurrect it. I noticed that the warranty sticker was not removed so I know I was the first one to open it. I followed a youtube tutorial and I cleaned the 2 cores and heatsinks and applied arctic silver 5 thermal paste to them and put the playstation back together. The disassembly was pretty successful but putting it back together I ran into a problem. I had stripped the grounding screw but I managed to find another screw to use. I just added the washers and I managed to screw the grounding wire back.

Now the moment of truth! spent all morning working on this playstation 3 and when I went to turn it on, lo and behold the YLOD did not go away. But then I remembered, there was no hard drive in the playstation! So that brings me to my 2 questions.

1. Do I need a hard drive to turn the playstation 3 on?

2. If I dont need a hard drive, is there anything else I can do to salvage this fat ps3?

Hi everyone,

I have a favour to ask of anyone who might happen to be opening their PS3. There are a row of 6 IC chips near the front left of the board (as observed with the CPU/GPU faced up, outlined in red below), with the USB ports facing forward they are to their left and down from the little piezo speaker. They are in two groups of 3, separated by a component marked IR4 650S. Two of these came off, marked in blue (please see the picture).

IC chip layout.jpg

If someone could take a picture of their PS3 (mine is the European model as in the picture but I think this particular layout is the same for other fat models) with the markings/writing visible on those chips, I would really appreciate it as I am going to attempt to solder them back on after they came off after an oven reflow but want to be 100% sure of the orientations.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Brendan

Hey guys, so my bout 6 months ago my phat 60gb ps3 (BC) got YLOD eventually which i kinda expected because of the loud noises the fan was producing when i was playing my backed up games on the HDD. I've tried the "hairdryer trick" or whatever it's called and it never worked at all, but now I'm actually willing to spend money on things to ensure it is fixed properly, what tools would i need to fix it permanently, or is there no permanent fix?
