Thanks to @LilTunechi25 for this one ;)

We don’t know full details on this update, yet but seems that some users (many users..) reported some weird problem with their PS3 after the update. Some experienced a dead PS3 ergo the PS3 will not turn on…(figures) maybe we are talking here about some random issue with PS3′S with 500 gb HDD’s drive but the official board of sony is almost on their knees due massive traffic of clueless users asking what to do if they are having some weird issue or some random freeze or just to ask if it’s safe to update to 4.45.

Best way to avoid a severe headache = DO NOT UPDATE for the time being. Until sony cames up with a solution. For the ones who are on OFW 4.45 already (like me) just stay cool.

    Will add this though:

Sony released firmware update 4.45 for the PlayStation 3 earlier today, but those of you who haven’t already done so should probably avoid the update for now.

A growing number of users are reporting on the PlayStation 3 support forums that since installing the update, their system will no longer turn on. To make matters worse, one user claims that not even a file restore was able to bring the system back to working order.

Fortunately for those of you who already have installed the update, the issue doesn’t appear to be universal – if you updated and your console appears to be working as it should, then you likely have nothing to worry about.

According to various user reports, the issue seems to apply to users who use their system’s original HDD and to those who use an external HDD alike. However, many of the users experiencing difficulties do appear to be using larger hard-drives above 500GB, as The Sixth Axis points out in their report.

Sony has yet to acknowledge the problem, so it isn’t known how soon an update can be deployed. Additionally, it isn’t clear whether or not those affected will have to reformat their hard-drives or not, as system functionality seems to vary from user to user.

PlayStation 3 firmware update 4.45 seemed simple enough; according to the changelog, the main addition was the ability to opt-out of notifications upon receiving a Trophy.

Unfortunately, we won’t know anything more until Sony issues a statement. We’ve reached out to Sony Computer Entertainment of America for comment, and will provide an update should we hear anything more.

In the meantime, those of you who haven’t updated are advised to wait.

Aldo has updated his tool, Bruteforce Edat to v1.2.1. This new version greatly increases the apps speed.

    To quote:

It’s a dev klicensee bruteforcer that can be used to find the klicensee used on edat files. It uses BuC‘s dev klicensee validator to test the potential keys. The tool works in a similar way as Scetool/Bruteforce tool used to find regular Klicensees.

New in 1.2.1: Integrated with JjKkYu’s EDAT dev_klic bruteforcer tool 1.2 for even more superfast speed.

One interesting finding is that dev klicensees usually are found in the sections aligned to 0×80, 0×40, 0×20 or 0×10. These sections usually are between sections 12-15 and next to the end of the eboot/self, and the devkey is usually found in an offset aligned to 4. However, in some less frequent cases the key can be aligned to 1 or 2.

Ocassionally the klicensee is found near the offset of “NPWR” (trophies id).

Special thanks to Catalinnc for his awesome contribution discovering the klicensees!

    Words from Rogero:

    Hi everybody,

I was away for a long while, a lot of work and real life projects to handle lately, I don’t even have time to follow the scene news but I still managed to pre-order a Launch Day Edition PS4 and a Day One Xbox One too

here’s my build of the CFW4.41 v1.00 ( it’s still v1.00 the very same PUP built initially ) and honestly this may be the last too, I may not have the time to work on all the reversing/patching/building of future firmware versions.

The CFW have all the basic patches needed as usual but ToolBox payload was not updated and not included this time so ToolBox won’t show on [app_home] (before anyone start asking about it).

    http://rapidgator.net/file/54703d30c…v1.00.PUP.html

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/nzznvm

This CFW was tested on most PS3 Models by different testers and no problems were encountered.
But as any CFW release you must install it with caution and by following proper instructions, No one will be held responsible for any damage caused.

    Rogero CFW4.41 v1.00

ReactPSN patch to work offline without the need to log into PSN at all.
noBD/noBT patches to allow installation on consoles with broken BluRay Drive or Bluetooth board.
This CFW can be installed fine from XMB Update over OFW3.55 or any CFW ver: 3.55/4.21/4.30/4.40/4.41
HDD can be swapped/changed and the CFW will re-install without any problem.
Patched LV1 to disable LV2 Protection.
Patched LV1 to add peek/poke support.
Patched LV1 Core OS Hash Check (to prevent Bricking on non-dehashed downgraded consoles)
Patched LV2 to add peek/poke support.
QA Flag enabled by default to allow for easier downgrading using Recovery Menu.
RSOD screen bypass patch for RSOD machines (it won’t fix the RSOD but allows the PS3 to boot fine into XMB)
PSN/SEN access is available but it’s not recommended.
It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.41 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed.
The CFW can be used directly for Downgrading with Hardware flashers using the new tool

@Rogero Good Luck all the best!!! Thank you for all your hard work.

What i can say about this?. Xbox-One is already “Scary” it’s crystal clear that they want “All connected” but i like Sony’s approach more..i think is more “discrete”.

    To quote:

A leaked promotional video for PlayStation 4 shows the system’s ‘connected’ user interface in action.

Upon start-up, you’ll see a list of horizontal squares, each containing games and other applications, and below that, a Facebook-like “What’s New” feed.

On the feed, you’ll see the latest updates from your friends and the network. Dragons and Cavalier (this is not a real game) might have just been added to the PlayStation Store. Or your friend Sarah might have just unlocked the Platinum trophy in Knack. You can “Thumps Up” her accomplishment, and from that same page, you can jump straight into the game.

If you’re having trouble getting past a certain area, you could put the game on hold and check out a friend’s video showing how they did it. Then, you can jump straight back in.

At one point in the video, a friend asks for help in Killzone: Shadow Fall. The user, who doesn’t own it, purchases it from the PlayStation Store, and is given the option to download the multiplayer or single-player mode first. He chooses the former to quickly assist his friend.

Multiplayer sessions are visible from the console’s user interface. The user sees three of his friends are in an open session of Killzone and joins the match straight from the OS.

Later in the video, a woman is shown watching a Killzone video a user uploaded from her phone, and sending a group message to her friends about it. From her phone, she then downloads Killzone: Shadow Fall to her PlayStation 4.

Promise i won’t say a word or voice my opinion on this one:

    To quote:

“It’s dead, it’s dead, it’s deep-sixed, it’s at the bottom of the Mariana Trench,” Electronic Arts’ President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau stated plainly yesterday about the company’s Online Pass program to Joystiq.

Following EA’s announcement in late May that it was eliminating the Online Pass program, gamers braced for “the twist.” That occurred last week when Microsoft finally announced the digital rights management (DRM) scheme for the Xbox One, which would have made an Online Pass program unnecessary. However, with Sony’s announcement the PlayStation 4 will follow the current model of game console DRM and used games, it was a question if Online Pass was back on the table at EA.

“We’re not crafting a strategy to bring [Online Pass] back, you will not input codes to unlock your game, it’s not going to happen,” said Gibeau. The executive then moved on to tell us the company’s decision to kill Online Pass and Microsoft’s Xbox One DRM plans weren’t linked at all, therefore PlayStation 4′s recent reveal wouldn’t have changed their decision on the program anyway. He called the Online Pass program “flat out dumb.”

The amount of money that we made, it didn’t replace the amount of frustration we put on our customers and it didn’t offset the reputation damage it caused the company. So we said ‘it’s not worth it,’ and so the idea was, look, ‘don’t do stuff like that anymore,’” said Gibeau, noting the company had the opportunity to wipe the slate clean under interim CEO Larry Probst.

The original theory behind Online Pass, also known as “Project Ten Dollar,” was to charge used games buyers a fee for using the company’s servers. Gibeau notes EA will make money in other ways through services.

“Do used game buyers of FIFA participate in Ultimate Team? Yeah. Is it possible they might buy DLC? Yeah. Frankly, we’re being more nuanced and sophisticated about it. Before we used a blunt instrument. Now we’re going to be like ‘Look, they own it, they bought the disc and it’s theirs. They have a legitimate right for not doing anything illegal.’” Gibeau continued, “If we want to be progressive about it, we will make online services available to them that if they want to buy they can, but they don’t have to. At least that way we participate in some monetization. The reputational damage [Online Pass] was causing us was in excess of the dollars we were making.”

Gibeau acknowledged the company’s reputation isn’t the best with gamers and that this tension creates inherent distrust, but he said there was no conspiracy with Microsoft and he had no idea what Sony would do. He concluded, “At the end of the day, we’re not going to replace [Online Pass]. It’s not coming back. It’s dead.”

The PS3 Scene should be proud of sites like PS3DevWiki and people like defyboy and euss, for both running and maintaining the Wiki.

The PS4 scene will also have a DevWiki, here is a quote from defyboy:

For those that don’t know me, I host and maintain the ps3devwiki.

I have started creating a wiki for the PS4, find this at http://wiki.ps4dev.net Unfortunately the domain ps4devwiki.com has been registered by someone else who is holding me to ransom for $100 to release it.

This is a free service that I will host and maintain for the benefit of everyone. I am doing what I can however my funding for this hobby is severely limited, since I have spent enough already so I would appreciate any donations you can offer.

I don’t need much, the hosting is not expensive but it would be nice to buy the domain back.

More info with video included about Sony new policy about used games:

    To quote:

Perhaps the biggest news post-console reveal here at Sony’s E3 presser: the PS4will play used games without any restrictions or authentication. In broader terms, that means that when you purchase physical media, that disc can then be traded-in at retailers like GameStop, lent / sold to friends or kept forever as part of your enduring library. What’s more, unlike Microsoft’s controversial Xbox One 24-hour offline gaming window, PS4 owners will not have to connect to the internet in order to continue playing games. Effectively, that makes the PS4 fully playable offline; it also arguably hands the E3 2013 crown to Sony. For a brief instructional (and intentionally cheeky) demo on how this used game process works, check out Sony’s homemade video after the break.
