[UPDATE] Home Renamer v0.1 Released
Oct 23, 2008 - 7:03 PM - by Pirate
H3R3T1C, has whipped up a quick application called Home Renamer v0.1. What this program does is that is basically renames the files in the decrypted home beta into the correct format. It saves a huge amount of time if you are going through the files, as you don't have to view the hex file for each file to determine what the correct extension is.

The instructions are simple, to use it just place one of the EXE files in one of the extracted folders that contains the numbered home files (i.e. place the exe in USRDIR-NPBOOT folder for example... [Read More]

HOME Beta 0.86 fully unpacked & decrypted
Oct 22, 2008 - 7:35 PM - by Pirate

StreetskaterFU is at it again, this time he has managed to fully unpack & decrypted Home Beta 0.86. There are about 9000 unencrypted files, other devs now can take a look at those files which also include java binaries, shader files, lua scripts and more interesting in-game executables. These files can help us better understand PS3 games and the PS3 network structure.

So where are the "exploits"? PS3 games run still in a sandbox and don't have direct access to kernel modules and other high level access but since the... [Read More]

PS3 Recovery Menu Discovered!
Oct 17, 2008 - 11:30 AM - by Pirate
JordanBlack68 has found something interesting on the latest 2.50 firmware update. Apparently Sony has snuck in a PS3 recovery menu with the latest update.

To go into this mode you need at least firmware 2.50 and do the following:
  • Place your PS3 in STANDBY mode
  • Hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps.
  • If it goes into the video reset setting then you messed up, and do it again till you hear a double beep.
Here is a video of this... [Read More]

Sony blocks BD-J Homebrew on FW 2.50
Oct 16, 2008 - 9:33 AM - by Pirate
Sony has blocked BD-J homebrew support on the newest 2.50 PS3 firmware update. We believe that it was blocked due to the releases of BD-J emulators (thus why it was not blocked in past few firmware updates).

Definetly bad news for those who ran BD-J homebrew on PS3.

PS3 Flash ECC Algorithm Reversed!
Sep 25, 2008 - 6:10 PM - by Pirate
Hackers have managed to reverse the code on the ECC protection on the PS3. What is the ECC Protection? The ECC protection basically kept the PS3 from booting with a custom flashed rom, with the ECC now claimed to be reversed, we can now generate custom ones to allow the rom to boot! The hackers have also claimed that through the reversing of the ECC they have found where the encypted keys are stored for SELF's, PKG's etc.

They also report that they were able to recover a "bricked" PS3 through this (bad flash recovery).
