well..if you post helpful, informative things, people will generally improve your reputation by click the [+rep] button located below the person's name.
You cannot give yourself reputation points, only others.

also, making nonsencical posts (ie great find! or thats cool lolz!) really hurts your rep.

Thats why you have a negative 8 rep

It tells you maybe you should watch what you post... :P

It does boil down to a popularity contest and being new is normally rough it seem.

It is a weird system, I +1 ya, then someone -1's ya. I've been at a steady fifty for a week or so. I've been down to -10. At least you are not Gurdk that guy can't stay above 0 lol but its easy to understand why ;)

I gave ya +1, i give almost every one a +1 if they post something decent. There is only one person I ever-1'ed hehe
