Possible Way Of Reactivating PSN games On Jailbroken PS3

A PSX-Scene member by the name of gundamwfan, has discovered a way of reactivating his PSN games, after a HDD swap, on a Jailbroken PS3, here is a quote from his thread:
Quote:

Good morning/afternoon everybody. Man I love this scene. I love comgenie's file manager most of all. And you want to know why? I'll tell you why.

Yesterday I switched out hard drives on my 160GB Drake model PS3. The one with only 16MB of flash. When you do that, even with the HDD backup and restore, it carts over your DLC but not the activation. The activation keys supposedly were stored in nand and blah blah blah...wrong! WRONG WRONG WRONG!

There's a little file in the exdata folder of the home directory called "act.dat" and it has all the activation info for all the dlc you've purchased. I noticed after comparing the new drive after backup with the files I copied over before I switched out and guess what...act.dat was missing. After I copied over the act.dat file, everything worked like a charm, INCLUDING all my rock band DLC that would've required reactivation and all my DLC Games! So share the news with your friends, for those that didn't know, that act.dat file is golden for DLC and could hopefully lead to bypassing activation at some point in the future. Pass it on!

Update: DLC is seen in Non JB'd mode, and won't run without activation. But IN JB mode, DLC runs without a hitch. perhaps with some editing, this could lead to running unlicensed DLC? I don't know.

EDIT
To stop any hassle, Cyberskunk also discovered this method a month ago here, im sure he has heard of coincidences.

Temporarily Reactivate Your PSN Content with a Backup of 'act.dat'

I've figured out you can temporarily reactivate your PSN Content and it is as simple as transferring your backup of..

'act.dat' or the entire 'exdata' folder (Depends on the situation)

to this folder on the PS3..

'dev_hdd0home0000001exdata'

It will be reactivated until you restart the PS3 again..

So go and backup the 'exdata' folder now if you haven't already!!..

Will this help Jailbroken PS3's to get back on PSN by any chance?

I don't think so, but i will open the possibility the reactivate your bought PSN games, so u don't need to be logged on with an JB'ed PS3 on the PSN.

And May be in the next few days, someone will edit the act.dat file so u can add as many DLC's as u want...

Probablt not. But what it does mean is more piracy. Not games you can download from torrent but from the psn.

If the codes can be extracted people may be able to create their own act.dat file, do if someone shares the installation file for add-ons etc along with the code noone else will have to pay for them. At least thats what I think this means.

Unfortunately, with all discoveries connected to the PS3/Game scene, there is always a lamer waiting to rip games off, i posted it hoping to help people how have lost their activation, not for some idiots to steal PSN games :(

I am guessing that the activation requires your ps3 public key (or such) for the activation to accepted

For example if I copied the act.dat from one of my ps3s to the other I am assuming that would definitely not work

you post in your article it could lead to running unlicensed DLC and then you call people lamers for wanting to do just that, kind of contradicting I think.

If you read properly, that is a quote from the original poster, not me, so no it isn't a contradiction.

Read this while looking for an act.dat file..

I don't think so. Just because you are working around DRM doesn't make you pirate. You should be able to use the content you BUY without checking with sony all the time to re-approve it.
When it gets taken a step further to redistribute the games illegally thats completely different
