Organizing Your PS3 APPs On The XMB

NZHawk and DarkHacker have made a small discovery regarding the PS3 organization of the XMB for jail broken PS3s.While they were experimenting with PARAM.SFO files they have discovered how place files/apps into various categories on the XMB screen. To achieve this all they needed to do was to change or a small modification to the category string in the PARAM.SFO except users and friend settings.Below NZHawk explains further.

Well I was talking to DarkHarker about param.sfo files and that. He asked me to try changing the CATAGORY string to 'HM' and see what it did.

It made the package install under the Playstation Network catagory on the XMB. DarkHacker and I then worked out the rest of the catagories that its possible to install and run hombrew applications to the xmb, and found them all except Users, Settings and Friends (which all seem to be filled with the xml files in the vsh flash folder).

String Category

HM Playstation Network
CB Network
HG Game
AV Video
AM Music
AP Photo
AT TV

I thought this was quite interesting, and would be great if we could add a Hombrew catagory to the xmb and make all hombrew apps install under it to make some hombrew standard, much like the wii has. (Also has anyone though about making a database of hombrew Title IDs to keep track?)

Oh, and its possible to change this location after install via application settings.

Ultimatehacker, just post a summary of what the news is and link source, you shouldnt just copy paste someone else's post. or, just dont post at all, and one of the mods will find it and post it.

okay just saving the trouble and i didn't entirely copy it just the quotes to be exact
the introduction/explanation is all mine.

madshaun1984 11-22-2010 08:17 AM

in future just explain it then, and link the original post, its good that your trying, but may upset the original source of the news. Unless its from that other site, that we dont care about ;)

Today NZHawk has revealed a small discovery, that he and DarkHacker have made. While experimenting with the PARAM.SFO settings file, they discovered how to place applications into various categories on the XMB. To achieve this, all that is needed, is a small modifcation to a CATAGORY string in the PARAM.SFO. By doing this, they found you could place applications into any XMB category, except Users, Settings and Friends. Below NZHawk explains further.

Whilst not directly the same, it is an almost clone, also in future when quoting, the tags are
[ quote]message[/quote](without the space at the start)
or just use the quote button.
You are new at doing this and i understand that some mistakes can be made and you did quote your source, which is a good thing.

Regarding this thread, you could have started by saying "PS3HaX members NZHawk and Darkhacker................", but you will know for next time.

Last thing, thanks for taking your time to post.
