The NOOBs guide to getting mulitman to work with your NTFS drive!

OK so I have seen this questions asked a lot since NTFS support was added into multiman and here is a step by step guide to getting your vendor ID and device ID.

First right click on "Computer" or "My Computer" depending on what version of windows you are using. Then select properties.

Second open the device manager this will also be different if you are not on windows 7. I believe the device manager is a button in windows XP.

Third expand the "Disk Drives" tree and right click on the USB hard drive you want to use with your PS3. Then select properties.

Fourth step is to click on the details tab.

Finally you will need to find "Parent" in the drop down selection and copy the circled numbers into the "USB.CFG". After this is done you need to copy the "USB.CFG" into "/dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR" on your PS3. The last bit after 0x0000:x0000:X Where X is the volume number so if you plug in your hard drive and it has 2 partitions like G: and F: the this needs to be 2 or however many partitions it has.

Start up multiman get to the file browser hit Start + /\ plug in your UBS hard drive wait a bit then hit continue.

That part of the new multiman was confusing so thanks for clearing that up. I still feel as though him adding write to NTFS as a proof of concept. Still it is good for storage. I am looking forward to when we can read from NTFS as well as play from NTFS.

does this mean if i formatt it to ntfs i can finally play uncharted 2, tekken 6, and red dead redemption off my external hard drive? or even killzone 3? please help thanks.

There is no parent option in windows xp. I went through the whole dropdown list and couldn't find any ID that looked anything like the one you gave as an example. :dontknow:

No. It is for file transfer only.

Cheers for the tutorial ([])

Ok, I have a question. I have a 2TB External HDD with one FAT32 partition and one NTFS partition.... I altered the USB.cfg file as instructed but I still can't see the NTFS partition of my external HDD. Am I doing something wrong, or does this not support both an NTFS and a FAT32 partition on the same HDD?

I am on the point where I have to press start and Triangle, connect my external, wait a bit, then press continue. After that it brings me back to the main multiman screen but everything is frozen and I do not see the NTFS drive.

Same problem as ipvoyager, i connect the external, and do as said, nothin happens. I checked and re-checked the USB.CFG file, still no use. Pls help.

I first attempted this today with the same result.. my wife is currently hogging the ps3 so i can't test it again right now, but I believe the tutorial is incorrect in its instruction to set he last character to the # of partitions on the drive. I'm thinking that number should be the partition number of the ntfs partition you wish to use. I was thinking that seemed odd when I first read it, but decided to follow what it said anyway, and it froze. My apologies to the author of the tutorial if I'm wrong about this, because as I said I haven't been able to test out this assumption, so I could be wrong. I'll post with my result as soon as I can test this.

BTW: I was wrong about this, so sorry to the author of the tutorial. It just seemed strange to have to put the # of partitions on the drive, (Or does it mean the# of NTFS partitions you want to mount?) Either way it still doesn't work for me, and I've looked around and found a few people with the same poroblem, and quite a few who posted the vendor and product id strings had the same as mine, which leads me to believe its a compatibility problem with the driver and this (Or maybe others also) particular HDD controller in my external drive.
Next step is to try ntfs on my 4gb flash drive, if that works then I'll try switching the HDD inside the external case, which I doubt will help, as the incompatibly is most likely going to be with the controller in the case and not the HDD. May also try a shorter USB cable, which I also doubt will help, but I've seen strange things happen from time to time because of USB cable length, i guess sometimes that extra fraction of a nano second can effect something. -especially experimental somethings.

P.S. : In case anyone is unaware, You can use a large FAT32 partition, if partition size limit of 32 GB is your main concern, Theres still the 4GB per file size limit to deal with, but its better than nothing. Not sure on how big you can make the FAT32, but mine is 100 GB, and it seemed like it was going to let me format my entire 300 GB drive with one, but I didn't actually try it. For some reason the FAT32 formatter windows util I found wouldn't work for me. It kept getting an error. However I was able to format it to a 100 GB FAT32 partition with no problem what-so-ever from linux. (I used GPARTED in linux) Hope this helps someone.
