Playing Backing PS3 games
 

Hey everyone I'm new to the ps3 scene, I'm planning to go to a local gamestop to buy a refurbished ps3 for $199.

I'd like to know if it's possible to play backup games, like burning it on a disc, i have a jailbroken ps2 and that's how playing games that I don't physically have a disk work(legally owning one). For the ps3 it could be just downloading it on the ps3 harddrive, but what I meant is, is that is there anyway to download ps3 games from pc>and bam put it in the ps3 somehow and play it? And how do I do that? with all the jailbreaking procedures, what version and what custom programs do i need and etc, or a link to such article telling me what to do will do, thank you very much.


Sorry for not using search button but I'd like to start a new thread, and sorry if there's already a big sticky thread somewhere but I'd want to be specific.

they do not condone piracy here so know one will tell you how to play downloaded games. but they have a tut here that will tell you how to backup the games that you own and play them. just look around the site you will find something.

every thing you will need to get you going is in my tutorial in my signature. also before you buy the ps3 make sure it is on firmware 3.55 or below. any firmware above 3.55 will not work.

thank you very much for the reply, when I buy it, how do I make sure what version it is without opening it up at home? do I ask the gamestop employee(do they even know?)?

well they are selling used consoles at game stop so they can power it up right there and look for you. they will do it if they want to make the sale bad enough. tell them you are only going to buy it if its on 3.55 or below.

What about brand new consoles? Do they come out of the box, post 3.55?( I checked the gamestop site, there's this one shop that's 0.9 miles from my house... I can just walk there in 5 minutes, and the only PS3 that seems to be in it is a new PS3 160gb for $249.99.)

call them and ask what they have used. if you buy new then your problibly going to get a firmware past 3.55.

well it depends one the model the console is, but i think almost all of the consoles running pre 3.55 have been sold out by now, it's been a while since 3.56 has come out... there is a way to know what FW the ps3 you are buying is on, you have to check on the box the console model like CECHC04 (this is for a fat console, but for slims should look almost like that) and then give a check here http://ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=SKU_Models to know what FW it runs

What do you mean by calling them and asking what they have used??

If that's the case I'll take my chances with refurnished/pre-owned, don't really care which game stop, i can go to em all lol ^_^ but since it's pre owned/refurbished ill definitely ask them for the version, sand say i wont buy unless it's pre 3.55. Or I can also check the new boxes for the model to find out the version it comes with?

There's time, i only have 70 usd right now and i think i might get around 60 today at work, 3-4 more days til i have enough.


p.s. http://ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=SKU_Models i noticed that ps3 fat don't come out of the box post 3.55, at most they go up to 2.70 it's the slims after CECH-251.B that comes 3.60, so does that mean if a buy a new fat=problem solved?


@ itskamel : if I want to transfer files to ps3( X gbs),(in the past when i didnt have a usb cord i would use a program and host music files, and have my psp download it from it, it would seem that that was a "server" type of program) would i use the client version or server version?( installed the client, alrdy got the installer for server ready too )
