Newbie Needs Someone To Set Him On The Right Path!
 

Hey guys, I'm new here (obv) and wanted to get into the ps3 hacking zone so I could play legal backups on my PS3 (and enable OtherOS). I have a PS3 slim 120gb that I bought 1.5 years ago which is currently on 3.70. Of what I've read so far (I may not be right, so please do correct me) there is no available jailbreak for 3.70 (yet? o_0). So the only other option is to downgrade to 3.55 using Progskeet (which is now solderless?) or E3-Flasher (which is also solderless?). Is there any other option to jailbreak other than what I listed? And is there anyone working on a 3.70 jailbreak currently? And is using Progskeet or E3 flasher easy (and why are they so expensive...)? And is it worth downgrading or should I wait for a new jailbreak for 3.70?

your correct. the e3 will allow dual booting. but as far as how hard it is i cant say. as i have never used a flasher. but from what i hear is progskeet has great support. and as far as anyone working on a 3.7 jailbreak. i dont think there is unless they are and havnt announced it.

You can always pay someone to do it for you if you not willing to do it yourself and you don't want to mess up your machine Midwest Console Repair is grat for such a thing or anything having to do with any console. I've personally used his services and would suggest him to anybody new to this.

I'm good hardware, I've built and reassembled my PC multiple times without too much difficulty. As long as there's no soldering involved I'm good.

You might be better off picking up a used PS3 that is still on 3.55 from your local game shop or Craigslist, and selling your current PS3. No issues to worry about then!

Can someone confirm for me that progskeet is solderless? Do I have to buy something else along with progskeet 1.1 to be able to do everything solderless?

Yes. I would just buy E3 flasher because everything you need comes with it.

Pay? I would just find a good friend who has experience with it and ask him to do it free of charge. :)

@Yoyoatw : Yes you do.. Have a look at their site's product page HERE.

EDIT: I just saw you have a slim, so to be 100% solderless for now, you need to have an E3 flasher. If progskeet release a NOR clip, then you could get that.

For 100% solderless compatability, use the following:
Progskeet = NAND models only CECHA - CECHG (old phat models)
E3 Flasher = NOR models only CECHH - Everything else.. (new phats + all slims)

This is because neither work 100% solderless with all PS3's for now. It seems like E3 will have NAND support before Progskeet supports NOR (only for solderless, if you can solder they both do them all).
