PC to PS3 FTP Question

Hi everyone,

i am using FTP now for a long time between my PC and my PS3 to transfer games from one to other and vice versa.

The problem is that i never get more then 11.300 KiB/s

No matter how i try, no matter what i do, tried with other PC-s and still the same.

I am using a normal ethernet cable, my pc and PS3 are on the same network (2 routers), i tried it without the routers too, connecting just my PC and PS3 together but still the same, it is now slow when it goes by that speed, but still if the games are bigger 20-30 GB then it is slow :/

Is there anything i can do about that ? because i have read that the speeds have to be much faster ....

And BTW, what's up with ps3hax.net, the last 2 months i have problems, let's say i am on the homepage, and i want to go on the forums, i click above on the forums link but instead of taking me to the forums it just download me a file called forums.php, and i need to try it 5-6 times till it goes there instead of everytime downloading this php, and it's not just for the forums so, let's say i see an interesting article on, i click on the read more and the same happens, it downloads some php file -.-

This happens just on ps3hax.net

Make sure that the fastest speed supported on your computer is selected on the PS3 when connect through direct connection, and make sure you select Full Duplex. Setting a static IP is what I always do.

Also if you are using a 3rd party program to connect to the PS3 make sure its not capping anything.

@carldenning

yeah i've read and tried that, still same.

@TizzyT

I am using winSCP on my PC and blackbox on my PS3. forgot to mention that, the network adapted in my PC is a built in one, and it says that it is a "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet"

The duplex speed was at auto, now i selected 100MB full, will try it now and tell if it made some changes.

BTW what do you mean by this "Make sure that the fastest speed supported on your computer is selected on the PS3 when connect through direct connection"

and where to check and select that ?

Thanks

You stated that your computer has a NetXtreme Gigabit, if that is so then from the name you support 1000Mb Ethernet, so on the PS3 instead of setting it to 100Mb set it to 1000Mb (full duplex).

Thanks for your answers, like i said before on the PC it has 100 MB full duplex and 10 MB full duplex, no 1000MB so i set it to 100MB full duplex, i didn't changed anything on the PS3, didn't even know that the PS3 has the duplex settings too, but just to mention, after changing my network adapter from "Auto" to 100MB full duplex, the speed went down, and the max speed was 8,080 KiB/s :S i changed it again back to auto and it was again 11,300 KiB/s

But i will try now to change first the settings on my PS3 and then on my PC

@TizzyT

Tried setting it both on PC and PS3 to 100 MB full duplex but max speed was 10,060 KiB/s :/

When i tried to use 1000MB full duplex on my ps3 then it wouldn't get the IP adress ......

Any other recomendations ?

And btw what is "WOL speed" in my network adapter properties ?

Hmm that is weird as your PC has gigabit which implies it has 1000Mb capabilities. By default the PC should be on auto speeds and at full duplex. Only change the Settings on the PS3.

On the PS3 follow this(shows how to setup 1000Mbps).
settings,
network settings,
internet connection settings,
custom,
wired connection,
manual,
1000base-T full-duplex (change this to 100Base full duplex if you really don't have 1000),
automatic,
do not set,
automatic,
automatic,
no not set,
enable.

On the PC set the following if you configure before (if you never touched it leave it be or follow to set it manually). For Win7 because thats what I got.

Start,
computer,
on left pane click on network,
network sharing center,
change adapter settings,
right click on your adapter,
properties,
configure,
advance,
if you have auto disable gigabit option - set value to disable,
Speed & Duplex option - 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex (unless you only have 100 then set it to 100Mbps Full Duplex and on PS3 also set to 100).
Click OK.

Now remember this is if you are directly connected to the PS3, and not through a router or switch. If you are through a router or switch the chance of this working is still there (if they are Gigabit router or switch) but if not then the switch or router is not 1000Mbps capable, in which case set on both PC and PS3 to use 100Mbps.

EDIT: WOL is wake on lan, it basically lets a remote connection wake your computer up if it is in standby/sleep mode, not an option that we need to mess with.

I wrote my previous post a little weird heh My PS3 (Slim) has 1000 MB full duplex, but when directly connected to my pc and using that it won't get a IP adres, but my PC has just 100 MB full duplex, i googled a bit, and it seems that my network card should have 1000 mb but mine is just showing 100MB, maybe i should change the drivers, because i use win7 too and it installed them automaticly.

Back to your post, i did it so :

Connected PS3 and PC with one ethernet cable, nothing between them, setup the IP-s and everything like it should be, on both the PC and PS3.

On my PC used 100 MB full duplex, on my PS3 used 100 MB full duplex.

Still the same about 10,000 KiB/s, it seems no matter what i do i can't get over 11,000, i get 11,300 when i use auto settings on PC and auto settings on PS3 when they are both connected to my network (2 tp-link routers,2 switches, 8 computers and the PS3), weird .

Thanks anyway for your answers and help :)

I think it might be the software you are using......
try this:
make a shortcut on desktop and set the location as
"C:\Windows\explorer.exe ftp://IP-ADDRESS-OF-PS3/"

Triet that, but it doesn't shows me the transfer speed, but i went to "Task manager" and i saw that it transfers about 80%-90% of 100 Mb, and i think i know where the problem is, when i go to task manager and then on "Networking", i see down there The local area connection that i am using, and the "Link speed" is 100 Mbps (megabits, about 12.5 MB) and there i see a percentage of how much it uses in that moment, so that means that it is limited to only 100 Mbps, but why ? why isn't it 100 MBps ?

That is the reason it doesn't goes faster, now i need to get information how to change that

Oh, found the problem, the problem is my network card :/ i didn't watched good enough, it doesn't have 100 MB full duplex full speed, it actually has just 100 Mb full duplex full speed :/
