Dutch copyright mafia Buma/Stemra

Today in the Dutch news:

About 5 years ago the Dutch Copyright organization Buma/Stemra (http://www2.bumastemra.nl/en-US/Over...a/Organisatie/) ordered a music part from Melchior Rietveldt for their Anti-piracy campaign in 2006. He only allowed it to be used for that campaign but he learned Buma/Stemra used it all the years after the campaign on Dvd's and in film theaters. They pirate his music and refuse to pay... Now that sounds a bit criminal and disgusting for a copyright organization but not real mafia, so here comes the second part...

Melchior Rietveldt is fighting against Buma/Stemra for his rights for some years now but it is getting nowhere because of the power Buma/Stemra has in this. One of the Buma/Stemra board members (Jochem Gerritsen) owns a music distribution company himself and offered to put the music part in his companies collection, this way the case would be solved in 2 weeks when he uses his power.... Jochem Gerritsen wants 33.3% of the compensation for doing this. Estimated compensation is above the 1 million euro's. So this dude that has to protect someone his copyrights only wants to defend it if the victim sells his rights to him otherwise the case won't be discussed with the Buma/Stemra board.... :secruity:Now that is what I call extreme corruption and this kind of corrupt behavior is the reason I still support Occupy...

Christ, so hypocritical! Serious abuse of power there, which seems all too common these days. I hope he gets what he's owed, although I doubt he will..

P.S. : Guess what my bro's getting for christmas : LINK - Our original one was dumped years ago, he's gonna love it!

Guess who is representing $ony if it comes to music copyrights ... Author rights society : Buma/Stemra

Lol, you found a Speak Math (somehow I forget the & character everytime ;) ) on Ebay :)
I would go for the boxed one and keep the box because with the box it will be worth more in the future: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Speak-Math-El...item2316bc9741

Nice read and some sound samples: http://datamath.org/Story/CircuitBending.htm

Corruption by people in a position of power? Nooooo.

Instead of being permitted to simply resign, these people need to be made examples of by the authority they allegedly uphold

Yes, and people who support torture of uncharged detainees should be tortured, but how likely is that to happen?

Funny thing is everybody talks about the money Jochem Gerritsen demanded for any help with the problem and in some way that is correct because it is like a fireman who only wants to help to stop the fire if he gets a big amount of money...

but the big problem I also have with this is the fact it is a copyright organization doing an illegal thing they tell everybody not to do... "Do not steal music/video (...) but pay for it" is their motto. And while they tell us this every time they do it themselves. So a company with very much power (a kind of a state within a state if it comes to legal power) do pirate to benefit themselves and even refuse to take their responsibility.

Thank you for changing my view on piracy Buma/Stemra.... because that has changed with this kind of news :hello:

I thought that was the definition of the word power?

Then we would probably not have any judges left...

They should loose their right to act in that type of business again for working against the cause of the business; personal and company -wise.
