New developer. Noob question

Hi,

I've been a developer for almost 10 years ,mostly coding java, .net, and some assembler. I know my way around cryptology and other tech stuff, but when it comes to the ps3 I honestly don't know much, but I want to learn.

I have read a lot on the ps3 dev wiki, but I have very simple question:
My ps3 is @ OFW3.72. Do I need a 3.55 ps3 to find an exploit?

maybe start on a pc with a 3.72 firmware file and start disassembling with the availible tools. also a ps3 would help too
