E3 Downgrade dongle?? Cobra USB?

Hi, thanks to the forum, I was able to install, backup, then do the restore process using the E3 Flasher. I am following Khalkedon's tutorial for install on slim PS3 and I'm stuck at the USB Downgrade Dongle part. I have a Cobra USB, is this where I use it and how exactly do I do that...sorry to ask to be walked through but I've been spending at least 2-3 hours for the past week and have just been able to restore now...thanks again I will definitely contribute to the forum once I learn how to successfully do this myself...

After flashing "downgrade.bin" you need to restart your PS3.
A promt will show up, telling you do press the PS button of your controller.
At this point, turn off your PS3 by unplugging the power cable.

Now you need to enter service mode with any kind of USB dongle.
As far as i know, cobra USB works like this:

- simply plug it in
- start PS3 without any button combintation

If everthing works as it should, your Cobra dongle will flash red, followed by a blue light - after that the PS3 should shut down automaticly.

If this doesn't work, check out Cobra USB forum for a guide on how to enter servive mode (probably you need to update your files)

Thanks! I think I might have to dl something on the website but I'll see...is it as simple as just putting games on the hard drive after that?

Check out their website for further information or wait till someone with cobra experiance shows up in here.

Answer to your second question: personally i don't promote piracy but fu#k off, you'll find your answer anyways, thanks goes to google. :bird:

It's pretty much that simple. After you've installed Multiman, you can simply download games (find your favourite source over google) and either save them on an external USB drive or transfer them via FTP client over to your internal PS3 HDD (FTP feature is already implemented in Multiman)

If you can't get things running, be sure to check out the Multiman thread, you'll find pretty much every answer to any of your question.

A last thing you should know:
Don't even bother to download new releases like FIFA 12, Skyrim or anything like that - your CFW runs on 3.55, so you wont be able to play games, wich are supposed to run on 3.55+

There are some EBOOT fixes (patches to get newer games running on 3.55), but you won't find alot of them.

Thanks helped alot...I ordered True Blue that supposedly plays 3.6 games...can I use that after I already started using Cobra USB?

Nope you won't be able. So better cancel your order as long as you're able to.
TrueBlue needs it's own CFW to run - E3 flasher only allows you to install their own CFW and so you wont be able to install TB CFW (this is serious, you will brick your PS3 if you try to install another CFW than the one on e3.tech)

So you just learned a lesson, stop buying things just because of a nice description :hello:

If I just did the restore process but not the downgrade is it too late? Rather run the True Blue but can it be run off of 3.73 OFW?

lmao, of course you cant run trublue on OFW, as i said you need a custom firmware. if you want to use TB go for progskeet or tensy++ (since your able to install any desired CFW with those products)

If you just backed up your BIOS and restored your still on OFW. Otherwise do the whole downgrade process until you reach 3.55 CFW with E3, you can upgrade to OFW 4.00 regular via USB after that.

Please take some time on reading guides, the brick risk is simply too high. If you do not have any solderskills, dont buy progskeet or tensy, trust me.

1/ Cobra needs its own CFW to run too.
2/ After downgrading you're not forced to stay on E3 CFW, but if you install another CFW you MUST make sure it has lv1 hash checks patched/disabled or you WILL brick your console.

I'm not sure if TB and Cobra CFW have the lv1 hash checks patched, but you can always email cobra and request them to add that.

As far as i know, there isn't any confirmed case of someone running another CFW in combination with E3 flasher, or am i wrong?
