Ads are getting even more annoying
I know my post count is pretty low, but I've been a lurker here for a long time. In fact, I've clicked a few ads on the main page a few times in the past.
Like others, I found the full screen ads to be a little irksome, so I used a little magic in my browser to specifically block those ads from showing. I'm pro ad, I believe sites need ads to make money, so I don't use any ad blocking software or plugins. However, today I was greeted with an "alert" box telling me I had the chance to win an iPhone 4S and to click "OK" if I wanted to proceed. The super annoying thing is that alert boxes only have OK buttons, they don't have cancel buttons. Closing the dialog without clicking the OK button results in the same action, because alert boxes have no return value. So next I was greeted with an even more annoying box asking me if I was sure I wanted to leave the page. That box came up again when I navigated to the forums. People shouldn't have to jump through this many hoops just to dismiss ads. Even pop under ads aren't this annoying, at least they have some subtlety. Once again, I'm pro ad, I click on ads that look interesting to me. But ads that block my ability to interact with the site are just frustrating and will encourage users to look for another site. |
Nobody is forced to view the ads.
@Pirate could quite easily put a system in place that would refuse access if ad blocking software is detected but he doesn't. I use adblock myself and have had no issues whatsoever with rogue ads like you described. I'm sure if you report specifically which ones block access then pirate will look into it. If he doesn't know, he can't do anything about it. Certain Ads have been removed in the past when issues arrised |
The site makes money off those ads...apparently enough to justify them even if they result in 90% of the community blocking all ads from then on...so install adblock and let the noobs worry about a virus that claims to be a free iPhone. If you still want ads, the new version of adblock defaults to allowing "less intrusive" ads.

Just login to the forums (ad it to your Favorites in your explorer menu) and not to the frontpage ;)

Now im sure Pirate would prefer that members didn't use AdBlock+, but he permits it because he isn't a Nazi. These ad's are a vital part of the forum, running a website isn't free and revenue has to come from somewhere and we have very little ad's compared to the majority of sites out there. Look at sites like QJ, PSX-Scene, PS3Crunch, they have more ad's than forum content, so unless you are willing to pay the entire server cost's, i suggest you stop complaining about a couple of ad's. |
Adblock is the reason I said "not forced"
Some sites restrict access altogether if it detects blocking My shortcut is "new posts" so I rarely see the main page |
Allot of good points & the adds are not a big deal .I stay signed in & click forums right away & never see them unless, i go to front page .You will only see the front page add 1 time per visit .. Not so bad ;)

i dont understand why people dont use adblock +.
i turn it off from time to time on here to let some ads show up but other then that i dont see any ads on any website |
I love PS#Hax but it is honestly the worst site i ahve ever been to in regards to ads. Whenever i load a page the page wont even load, i usually have to refresh a few times just to get it to work and have been infected with spyware on 2 occasions, i was able to easily fix though
