Well its going to be a lovely Xmas this year, just back from work where I was given a really thought out gift.. it looked like this:

Yep thats right 3 days before we celebrate the birth of some dude in a barn, I got fired :)

First my PS3's go wrong and now this...

2011 has been such an "epic" year lol

Same happened to me five years ago( @chris tmas). Things tend to work out for the better, and I hope they do for you

Just make sure you get straight onto the benefits etc and make sure they give you ALL you are entitled to.

I was in same position not that long ago and I had to find out everything for myself. They do not want to help people who are out of work through no fault of their own, just the spongers and wastes of space, so make sure that even whilst you are looking for a new job and even if you get offers, that you keep on asking them for any and all help you are owed.

If you have a mortgage they will help with that and other things but you need to push them (politely) as they will not tell you.

Hope 2012 goes better for you mate and even with the crap, still have a great XMass!!!
