Dont want to brick PS3!
Hi All, old school xbox modder here new to the ps3 scene as my kids were after a ps3 not the new xbox360...
Just got a new PS3 with a unknown CFW 3.55 it has multiman on it 2.00 older version and i wanted to upgrade to the new version.. is there any do's / don'ts to how its installed? delete old first then install new or just install new over the top? BTW any advice to what i should do about my CFW would be great... should i revert back to OFW 3.55 then install kmeaw 3.55?? and which is the best 3.55 cfw to install? there are quite a few but haven't found a thread explaining differences. Also is it a good idea to run team rebugs spoofer? is there anything i need to know about the spoofers??? thanks again for everyones input i really appreciate it! |

You should be able to install a new update of multiMAN over another without any problems. If think your kids might update your PS3, then it is best to install the latest spoof (4.00). You can find one here: http://rebug.me/?p=1324 |

now what i am saying it probably an isolated incident, but it was an incident that made me have to wire a nor flasher to my ps3 to unbrick it. but here is my story.
I receieved a slim ps3 with an unknown 3.55 CFW on it, i wanted to install OtherOS++ so i proceeded to create an OtherOS++ compatible cfw in ps3mfw. I flashed it in recovery menu and BOOM, my ps3 bricked. I was extremely pissed. I had no idea what happened, ps3mfw has never had a confirmed brick with tested tasks so I was wondering WTF happened. Well, I wired up a Teensy++ (no evidence of a previous nor flasher being installed) and dumped the flash and patched it with the downgrader patches available, wrote the image, and my ps3 booted right up.. I had saved it. So now i proceeded to install OFW 3.55 to make sure my mfw was the culprit or not. It bricked again. So then i went to irc and euss suggested i install one of the downgrader cfw pup's, i did so and it booted right up. So in summary and a tl;dr version, my ps3 had been hardware downgraded before, i didn't know, and i unknowningly installed a firmware that did not have the proper checks disabled for my ps3 to boot up in a 3.55 firmware. it bricked. So my advice to you is to install QA flag from rebug, because if that is installed it disables the checks automatically for any firmware and you do not have to patch lv1. source here (http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?...rnative_QA_way) but i doubt your ps3 was actually hardware downgraded and you probably have nothing to worry about, but you never know! i would QA flag it just to make sure. |
What Playstation 3 model are you?
