MY PS3 has no power

Well, I tried to use E3 flasher limited (that's with the clip-on, no soldering) to downgrade my PS3 (CECH-2001B). After reassembling the unit, I had the P3 working, but E3 flasher board wasn't lighting up. Annoyed, I took apart my PS3 again, took out the E3 Flasher, and reassembled the PS3, putting back in my hard drive. Now, I get no power in my PS3 (no red light at all when plugged in.

What I'd like to know is where did I go wrong? What part of my PS3 is possibly broken, needing me to buy a replacement if possible, or if I simply rewired it wrong. I have tried my extra power cable to make sure my cable wasn't the issue, and still had no reaction from my PS3.

Any suggestions other than buy a new one?

Assuming you didn't short something out you probably just forgot to attach a cable. I can't remember for sure but I think there are two cables that attach to the power supply. One in the back and one in the front. http://www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/dis...F0436thumb.jpg

If you did short something out you can always look at the PSU, but I would look at the above post first. I had a PS3 that after repair would overheat within 30 seconds.....I forgot to put the heatsink clamps back on.

Another thing to make sure that the ribbon for the power/eject button is in right and not damaged. Had one the same way and had to cut a little off the end of the ribbion to get it to work. Thanks

Well, I went through my PS3, disassembling and reassembling the entire system, making sure to connect everything in the correct way based off the many guides I have read, including the PSU and the ribbon for the front buttons. I still have no power in the PS3.

If it is the PSU, how can I be 100% sure? I don't have another one to test against it.

You could be in trouble just like me...... One of my phats also gets no power at all... I thought it was the psu . and so did a repair guy from gametek
anyways i got anouther messed up ps3 same model for 30$ . when i turn it on it goes green and makes a wierd sound and then goes red turns off all in a split second .......
took the psu out of that one... put it in the other and then took the old one that was apperently fried and got the same thing so it was like i never swapped anything at all... and that both psu's where in working order...

so i thought maybe its the little eject/power light board On the ps3 that wont turn on .... swapped those... No luck

thought it might be the main hard power switch... swapped those no luck...

meh i cant seem to figure out mine . anyone got any ideas on fixing either one ?

You can also try unplugging ribbon cable for bluray drive from MB. I had one that exhibited no power and it turned out to be a short in that cable.

It's unlikely (but not impossible) that the PSU would be 'fried' after a reassembly only. Double check your CMOS battery connection is OK. I had the same problem after a re-assembly but it was this connection to the board was at fault. If the CMOS battery is knackered or the connection isn't made properly you'll get no lights at all. It'll look dead.

If that is true, then you just have saved my phat ps3's life :O
If so, thanks :) I'll report that to the eletronics shop to see if that is the case

I would ask them to check if the clamps are making sufficient contact. I have repaired A LOT of these consoles, especially Phats and 9 times out of 10, if the PS3 freezes/shuts down or starts showing green squares etc. after 30 seconds it's because the cr@ppy early clamps are not pressing down correctly, or hard enough to ensure enough pressure on the GPU/CPU. To be honest, any console repair shop should know this already but i'm still surprised at the 'butchered' consoles that get sent to me.

You can check this by applying decent thermal paste as normal, tighten the clamps properly onto the heatsink, then take it apart again. If they're not pressing down evenly, you'll see this when you remove the heatsink. There will be gaps in the 'spread' of the thermal paste. It's like nothing was pressed down on the paste at all.

Sony tried to fix this problem by introducing clamp screws with longer threads on them to tighten everything up even harder. These were only available on the CECHL to CECHQ models, these YLOD a lot less. You can buy these on eBay if you're lucky like these here. They have saved loads of my consoles and work a million times better than adding washers or bending the clamps.
