How can i play mkv files on PS3 ?
I even tried showtime to play them nut it gives an error that file cannot be played.

Try running it at a lower resolution. The PS3 sucks at doing true HD. Lower res usually works through showtime though iirc.

showtime should play them fine are u sure the file isnt corrupt

Yeah, Showtime plays MKV files great on my PS3. And full hd 1080p.

I backed up all my new 1080p Star Wars saga, and it plays them great.

Make sure u have the latest Showtime. The old ones had problems with 1080p.

But I bet your file is corrupt, like psyki said.

but the same file is playable on my PC so i dont think its corrupt

i still use PlayStationmediaSever soft on my pc to transcvode on the fly ma MKV files on PS3 :)

PC's are much better at playing files. The two cannot be compared. The PC can play corrupt files for the most part. If you can re-encode with direct stream copy(I know its not really re-encoding), you might be able to "fix" a corrupt video. If not and you "have to have it" on your ps3, spend the >20 mins. re-encoding to a ps3 friendly format
