Iron plate with RSX chip was left on the radiator

Help me please, yesterday a friend brought his PS3, change the thermal grease. When it is opened. Iron plate with RSX chip was left on the radiator during disassembly. How could she fall off it?? The first time I saw this. A little after reading, I put the plate on the grease. When On PS3, it runs quietly, but the indicator HDD(lights up and goes out) does not work and gamepad too does not work.
The screen is black, Blue Ray drive is working (disk takes and gives)

what could happen?

well, to put it nicely, IF the RSX came off with the heatsink, i think you're fukked properly

if you pulled the RSX in it's entirety , maybe a reball could help you out, but if you pulled the Heatspreader off you RSX, damaging the silicon in the process, see above
Since the bluray drive receives power, it will always give and take a disc, same as a internal optical for a pc would when put under power.

was only the cover of the rsx removed and the internal chips remained on the motherboard ?

can you upload a picture ?

i am more worried about the black screen than of what your chip looks like, i am not sure the black screen is caused directly because you opened the plate .

there are 2 possibilities in my opinion

A)to look at things in an optimistic way your ps3 might not worked because it recognized the plate was off ,there was no thermal paste between it and the 5 chips, you missed something when you reassembled your ps3,ribbon cabale, connectors etc . .
B)to look at it in the worse way possible, you dissoldered or cracked your rsx when you pulled off the sinks

if you assume its B) sell it on ebay,if A) you could try the following

check if your rsx isn't loose when you try touching it (i don't think it is) but check it just to make sure

this is what you have to do:

1)clean well the inside of the chips the five of them,if the old paste wont go off use alcohol +paper towel ,if its still there scratch it with a credit card or gently with your nails,DO NOT USE A KNIFE or anything made of metal for doing that
2)apply thermal diamond 7 paste with the credit card method to spread it really thin ,do not use electrical conductive paste, after you applied a thin layer ,apply on the thin layer you just made a pea quantity on each of the 5 chips
check youtube there is a couple of vids on that
3)clean well the inside and outside of the rsx plate as well as you did in step 1) (use alcohol ) and put it back pressing it gently, remember to put the plates exactly the way they were,so if the writing rsx was down when you faced the board put it back as it was
4)sounds unbelievable but it would be a lot better if you apply the steps above even on the cell chip (the one behind),check youtube on how to remove the plate, again do not use electrical conductive paste !!
5)once you placed the plates ,take again your diamond 7 paste and apply it this time over the plate/s with the credit card method, don't apply any pea this time

6)remove and clean all the paste that spread around rsx and cell, use alcohol and a toothbrush if necessary ,but move it very gently
7)time to put the sinks and the fan over the plates, clean very well the sinks as step 1),careful when you mount it not to move the plates as if you do air bubbles may go inside the paste

reassemble your ps3 and double check that everything is connected properly ,if this ps3 never had an ylod or the rsx and cell were not screwed when you pulled off the sinks the first time it should work even better than the first day you bought it

RSX chip has overheated so IHS is then removed himself, to a black screen will be refllow or reball GPU-RSX chip

he said that he had the black screen after taking off the rsx plate (IHS), if the black screen was there even before that, it would not had sense to write about it again after the plate was removed

Look at the picture and you will see that the chip in the middle of black color, this means that the overheated, black screen means that the RSX chip has a cracked solder ball under the chip (overheating)

of what color you expect the chip to be ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...0D3AM7AO4&NR=1

chip is gray when it have paste on it and back when you remove it

this is how to remove the chip
Playstation 3 YLOD REMOVE RSX HEATSPREADER ( HS ) ( IHS ) - YouTube

@Intern regard the first video i would put 1/4 pea of the quantity he applied in the center and half to third of it on the side chips and get some thermal glue as well for the plate/s
