The PS3 Scene defragmented!
I am a new member here, but have been following the scene since 2007/2008. I started hacking and modding PCs; game consoles since the Sega Master System, DreamCast, Sega Saturn and modded the PS1, PS2 and lately the PS3. I perceive modding as an art form, which differs from piracy. I admit playing "backups" myself; however for me personally the challenge was breaking in and challenging myself rather than supporting piracy.
I have been researching intensively on the PS3's current state and I must admit that I clearly seem that there are developers, whom are derailing others on purpose. I am not here to judge upon those who have decided to make these dongles on the bases of other peoples' work. This thread is about what I am seeing from my perspective and I strive to be objective! Let me give you some examples of the latter (remember these are just my thoughts on the matter for now):
True Blue & Cobra: The same team is behind both Dongles and they have on purpose divided the capabilities of the dongles into two parts. By the latter I mean that they could have made e.g. one dongle that could do both, but by making two they are maximizing their profits. It’s obvious that these dongles are being made by people that are/were actually part of the scene, but decided to cash in on the free information that was present. In a way, who can blame them? They saw an opportunity and decided to cash in on it. These are also the developers that are sabotaging other developers and doing what they can in order to keep things at a standstill, so they can keep making money. It is obvious that Math is a part of the above, but who can blame him? He "hacked" the lvl0 last year and showed us the evidence on twitter and soon after True Blue arrived. Since then he has been deluding other developers in the wrong direction on purpose, but why? Simply, because he only has his own interest at heart. The same can be said about other PS3 developers, whom have been submitting false information to derail and delude others. They only have their own interest at heart and are not "evil", but want to protect their investment. They are also behind the latest BluRay emulation hack.
JB-King: The second group of PS3 developers that saw a golden opportunity and digged in. They cracked the TB and instead of releasing the information they wanted a big part of the prize money. Nor TB or JB-King is going to release any information regarding the hack or payload, because they would be killing a good money making opportunity. They do not have the necessary information to hack the games themselves, but they have the information to crack open TB.
Paradox: The good old Danish warez and cracking group! They have been releasing a lot and are best in their field, but how are they tied into all this? Team Paradox are experts at cracking dongles and other security hardware! Of course they would know how to secure a dongle and supply with the newest games (warez). I am guessing, but I believe Paradox is behind the cracking and supplying part, whereas PS3 developers are behind the features and improvements of the TB dongle. We finally see the scene collaborating, but at the expense of the end user.
What will I do? Well, I am a scholar with double masters' degrees and have studied software development at University; however this was not my major. I just love working with electronics and customizing things to my likings. I perceive things from a holistic point and deduct what is logical and possible from what seems utterly wrong (misconceptions). My aim is to provide with usable theoretical knowledge in regards to in which direction to investigate in and where the possible clues are hidden in order to unmask and jailbreak the PS3 for good :flowers:
