Ps3 HDD problem [Need Help]

What model number is your PS3?

ps3 slim
What firmware is your PS3 on?

4.11
Is it a hardware problem?

possibly
Is it a software problem?

possibly
If it is a software problem, have you made sure that you have downloaded the latest version of this software?
yes

Are you running CFW?

no
What CFW are you running?

no
Is your console bricked?

not that I know of.
If so, do you know why it's bricked?

Have you ever downgraded your console with hardware flashers? (Teensy, ProgSkeet, E3 Flasher, etc...)

I tried.
Have you tried searching the forum for someone experiencing the same problem before posting?

Yes, people have similar but not the same.
Describe your problem:

Well, I plugged in my hard drive into my eSATA station a while back to see if I could downgrade using my E3 Flasher. Once I turned it on, it started to smoke (from under the HDD) I took the HDD out immediately and wasn't sure If I busted it...

I'm assuming I ****ed the HDD up, and now I'm getting "Cannot Start. The correct hard disk was not found." I can't even enter recovery mode, which I thought I could enter even without a HDD.

I have a PS3 120GB Slim.

My main question is, Did I **** my whole Ps3 up? Why can't I enter Recovery if it's only my HDD?

What have you tried to do to resolve this issue yourself:

Well, I tried entering recovery. got the same "Cannot start. The correct Hard disk was not found."

So then I tried my old computers HDD, (Same as Ps3) and got the same message.

maybe ps3's hdd port is messed up well its the first time i read about such thing happening

I'm not sure why the Port would be screwing up. When my HDD started to smoke it was in the External eSATA station.

I mean I guess it generally could have broken.

No long have an sata station, threw at wall while angry like king kong.

I might see If I can get a friends ps3 for a night and try to see if my HDD works in it. and if not see if his HDD works in mine (as long as he doesn't mind it formatting)

I tried putting a friends HDD in but it didn't fit. Still unable to figure it out, I might buy a new HDD and see if that fixes it. I did however confirm that Recovery will NOT run without a HDD. I took my friends out and couldn't get it, but when I put it back in recovery ran normal.

So at this point it very well could be the HDD and not the Ps3.

If you have any SATA ports on your pc's mobo, you can connect the hdd like that. Then go to disc management and try to format it.

I don't have any SATA ports anymore, I had an external SATA station but that's done for (Started to smoke) And if I bought a HDD that would end up costing me less then buying a new station then a new HDD.

And I have another Ps3 3.55 coming in the mail so if that HDD fits I may just try using that.

You burned the controller port of the PS3/laptop drive. The PS3 itself is still fine, but the data on that disc (including savegames) is lost, until you replace that controllerboard for an exact same one.

Perhaps best to move on, and just replace the drive. When you do, you will be asked by the ps3 to let it format again, and it will ask for the firmware to install on it.

The thing is, with most HDD problems I've seen, They still have the wave in the background. Mine doesn't, Mine is a black screen with those words.
