Cobra Dongle Help

Hey guys

I just got my Cobra USB dongle in the mail.

Trying to figure out how to make it work. I can't seem to find any links or guides that still work.

I managed to use 4Shared to download the firmware updater and Cobra firmware v5.0 which appears to be the newest version. Updated it in PC mode (yes, I got the drivers to install on my own - on a virtual Windows XP machine)

But when I plug it in my PS3, it says "Unknown USB device inserted" and MultiMAN doesn't seem to do anything different than usual. I still can't copy an inserted PS2 disc using MultiMAN.

I tried installing the Cobra v1.0 .pkg file (also got via a third party since Cobra USB's site is dead) and it just gives "This program was unable to start" with an error and won't actually open.

I am on 3.55 custom firmware. Not the official Cobra one, but one I made using PS3MFW Builder.

Anyone know how to make this thing work? All I want to do is backup my PS2 games and play the backups. I was told I need a Cobra dongle to do it. I have a first-generation CECHA01 PS3.

You have to use Cobra CFW. Simple as.

Does Cobra CFW allow PSN access? (Using a spoofer etc)

I just don't get how their CFW would be any different than the myriads of other 3.55 ones...

The dongle is just to enforce their DRM. The patches are in their CFW. And no, PSN doesn't work on it.

Does ****PSN work with Cobra CFW?

DEFAULTDNB 06-28-2012 03:03 AM

Yes it does. Fu*kpsn works with any CFW.

I thought PSN was working on all CFW/MFW in 1 form or another, thanks DEFAULTDNB

It does but Cobra CFW and TB CFW is a little different to the other CFWs...

OK so, I downloaded what I thought was the Cobra CFW and it still does the same thing.

"An error has occurred during the start operation. (80010009)"

And it says unknown USB device. I tried all 4 ports.

So what's going on? Do I have the wrong firmware? Can someone link me to the right one? With cobra-usb.com being dead it's really hard to find this stuff anymore...

Here you have a couple of informative links that should solve all your problems =), my recommendation is to organize everything before starting to install anything to your PS3, check file hashes, etc.

-> CobraUSB F.A.Q.
-> CobraUSB Installation Guide

Edit: Btw, latest official CobraUSB firmware is v5.0 ( http://www.cobra-usb.com/download.html ), I recommend to use their dongle update utility so you don't have to update it using a PC ( http://www.cobra-usb.com/downloads/C...dater_v1_0.rar ), simply install the PKG, then while having the CobraUSB connected to your PS3 run the utility (remember to connect a USB storage device with the "Cobra-USB_Firmware_v5.0.cba" on it).

Edit 2: Another thing, make sure that the CobraUSB dongle has the side switch to "PC", it should turn a 'Red' flashing light when you turn your PS3 on, and then it will eventually turn 'Green' (indicating everything went ok). If the led is 'Blue' then something went wrong, the most basic cause of this is not having the "Cobra CFW 3.55", you can download it here ( http://www.mediafire.com/?8acc7ry9xa0h4cd ), the safest way to install it is from the PS3 Recovery Menu.

Hope it helps! SeeYa!
