Verbatim Discs and Lightscribe

Ok, I was wondering about Verbatim DVD-R DL discs and whether or not they are all Lightscribe compatible. I found these two variants of the discs (here and here) and wondered if they would both be safe? Probably not, but better to have confirmation than just a guess.

That being said, would the Lightscribes even be as reliable as the regular ones for creating backups? It would be nice to be able to put a label on them that easily.

The 20 pack spindle is non-lightscribe.

The chemicals used to create the recording layer should be identical, lightscribe or not. Make sure you get the discs that are made in Singapore. Elsewhere their quality drops drastically.

Huh... Is that the case with all discs, rather than just Verbatim? I really didn't even think about the place of manufacture being an issue.

from my experience, lightscribe discs use poorer quality dye by comparison to non lightscribe. maybe its down to costs, i dunno. maybe its the burning of the non data side that causes a problem.

how about printing to the discs as an alternative. it looks better too with printed vs burned

if you want to go that route order a sample and run it through a media checker to get the dye type and place of manufacture before commiting to a batch

place of manufacture do indeed cause a big issue. i have had 100% fail rate with a batch of verbatims
MKM-001-00 = good
MKM-003-00 = hit and miss
