Dead Island and Deus Ex running from external hdd and no package installation

Hey guys, I was messing arround with Dead Island BLUS30790 and Deus Ex Human Revolution BLES01150, because they just wouldn't load and kept giving me black screens, and I found a method to run them using the eboot.bin from the update package but without the need to install it.

What you need:
PS3 PKGView
SceTool with SceToolGui
PARAM.SFO Editor
PS3 Game Updater

Here it goes:

1. Download the update package for the game with Ps3 Game Updater.
2. Extract the package with pkgview
3. copy EBOOT.BIN from extracted USRDIR folder to scetool folder
4. open scetoolgui and decrypt EBOOT.BIN (EBOOT.BIN.elf will be created)
5. enable encrypt and on the left column change Self Type to APP and Key Revision to 0A (3.55) or 04 (3.41)
6. Select EBOOT.BIN.elf and encrypt (EBOOT.BIN.elf.self will be created)
7. exit scetoolgui and on scetool folder rename EBOOT.BIN.elf.self to EBOOT.BIN
8. copy EBOOT.BIN from scetool folder to USRDIR of your game backup folder (not the extracted from the package, and make sure you make a backup of the original EBOOT.BIN)
9. open PARAM.SFO from your game backup folder with PARAM.SFO editor, change PS3 Version to 3.55 or 3.41 and save
10. open multiman on PS3 and on your game settings enable BD Emulator and External (or simply load the game by pressing SELECT + X)
11. load the game from XMB

That's it, it worked for me on both Dead Island and Deus Ex Human Revolution from external hdd. For those who want to try this method with other games please post here if it worked or not.

P.S. For those who find this too hard, here are the files already re-encrypted to just copy to your game folder

Dead Island

Deus Ex Human Revolution

Here is the test patch for Deus EX: Human Revolution (BLUS30476) :) , if anyone try this, please let me know if this actually worked, thanks.

The game "should" work by just installing this update PKG, there should be no need to edit the original backup files, but I haven't tested, so until someone confirms, this is just theory.

Download -> FIX_341_UP0082-BLUS30476_00-DXHRPATCH0000001.pkg (40.24 MB)

PS: I know I posted this in another thread but I really want someone to test this out xD, thanks!

SeeYa!

That's good, you were lucky, mine wouldn't even run on internal :(
But after this it now works on both internal and external :)
