Remarry Questions - CECHG on 3.41 OFW

Hi,

I have a formerly bricked (during update) console. It has a missing BluRay drive as well.

Anyway I have managed to unbrick it, using FSM and basically doing it blind after lots of reading (since nothing was displaying on screen). It is now happily running BDB Modified OFW 3.41. It boots to XMB and with my old JB dongle I can install packages etc.

So now it is time to buy a BluRay drive and try to remarry it. I have a few questions before I start doing the remarry as I've never done it before:

1. Should I attempt to downgrade to 3.15 or lower BEFORE I install the replacement BD drive? ie using a BDB pup? Or just install the drive first then downgrade?

2. Should I attempt to downgrade using QA flag extra, as I have read that this may not work if the BD drive is missing/broken/not married?

So just basically wondering where exactly to start. I can follow the remarry guide on ps3devwiki but it doesn't make clear whether to install the BD first or what. So help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Look you need to plug it in first then downgrade then exit FSM and your good

Thanks for the replies. I made a BDB (Bluray Drive Bypass) PUP of fw 3.50 and managed to update it. 3.50fw is supported by the latest remmary files on ps3devwiki so hopefully the remarry process will go well.

Just waiting on a replacement bluray drive, should have it in a few days.

If anyone is wondering about the 'right way' to do it, I think JustThatDude is correct. Replace the bluray drive first then do the downgrade if needed then do the remarry.

I have a chechg01 I am about to remarry a drive on. I have a drive that I am not sure if the laser works or not. It says that you need to run a blue ray movie to restore the keys for blue ray playback. If I remarry this drive and the laser turns out that it doesn't work, how will I run a blue ray movie to restore the keys? If I do this will I loose bd playback for good?

Just replace the laser, then do the remarry again. And play a blu-ray movie.

I'm not sure if I have one that will work. I have a ton of checha01 drives laying around. Should I just try to remarry with one of those? Think they are compatible? I also have one from a chechL01 if that would be better.

Nevermind about the chechL01. It is totally different after looking at it.

Look here to see which drives will work. To get blu ray playback you will need to fix the drive. Not just marry a logic board to it.

I am actually not going to fix the drive. I am going to replace the whole drive and board with a new working one. I am trying to remarry a drive and board from a checha01, because they seem to be the same hookups. But I keep getting the pink NG. I have tried 2 drives so far. I have more, but I believe it is something else wrong, like the init pup or something. I am at a standstill.

If the CECHG logic board works, why not just swap it onto a working drive from the CECHA? Then no need to remarry. It's easy to do, so easy, in fact, my cat could do it. And I don't even *have* a cat!
