Two days ago, hacking group “NullCrew” announced on their twitter that they have hacked into Sony’s owned website sonymobile.com, and that they have gained control of a total of 8 servers operated by Sony. The initial announcement by NullCrew, “Interested in buying database access for one of Sony’s sites? Email me:…“ was quickly followed by a “Sony hacked” message as well as a link to a pastebin showing what the hackers say are a series of usernames and passwords stored in the sonymobile platform.

The information has been relayed by enough trusted people that this does not seem to be a fake (unlike some similar announcement made a few weeks ago), however the reasons behind the hack are quite unclear. Hacking group Nullcrew were involved in several hacking operations related to the arrest of one of the PirateBay’s admins recently, but the Sony hack does not really seem related. Rather, the hackers seemed to imply that this is just some form of punishment because of Sony’s lack of concern for the security of their servers. Quoting:

“Sony, we are dearly dissapointed in your security. This is just one of eight sony servers that we hve control of. Maybe, just maybe considering IP addresses are avaliable. Maybe, just maybe it’s the fact that not even your customers can trust you. Or maybe, just maybe the fact that you can not do anything correct technologically.”

It is not really surprising that Sony is the target of many hackers. Not only, as a global engineering company, are they a “high class” target, they also made lots of enemies a year and a half ago, when they decided to sue George Hotz for his jailbreak of the PS3. That led to them being massively hacked last year, leaking private information about millions of their customers.

What’s surprising, on the other hand, is that they still have heavily vulnerable websites lying around (according to some of NullCrew’s members, the hack was not “that difficult”), despite the bad hack that happened last year. In a way, it seems to be the main reason these hackers went after Sony, to show publicly that this company does not seem to care at all about their customers’ privacy, even after being so dramatically reminded of the importance of securing their systems, last year.

Always make sure that if you commit a crime to minutes after post all over the internet taking full responsibility for the crime...........better yet, video yourself while commiting the crime and then leave the camera with your fingerprints all over it and the video showing your face so later they can easily convict you.

WTF is wrong with people?

Sony will hunt these kids down and F@ck them like Ron Jeremy vs ICarly

Interesting read. That just shows people how worthy Sony's customers are to them.

I am not good at typing up stories, so if this is important/front paged, perhaps the moderator can think of something.

Thanks for the news :)

But they (wololo) really should learn their facts, with what $ony did to graf they created much more hacking enemies as with the "coward" Geohot ...

Those whitehat pussies are prolly just butt hurt since they can't figure out how to use the database themselves. Woo real 1337 guys go after a website that wasn't even compromised then complain about how a different website (which actually was 1337) owned by the same MULTI NATIONAL corporation was hacked. I'm sure every major corporation in the U.S. has a vulnerability that could be exploited via a hack very similar to this one. Also true hackers don't go about the net trying to get fame like whores. Why do I say they are trying to get fame? Simple they are publicly posting where the database is from. Anyone trying to truly monetize something of this nature will not divulge their source.
If you guys are so badass take PSN down like it was before.
EDIT: And one more friggin thing, I would bet a large sum of money if a person were to look hard enough into Sony servers they would be able to find systems that use default usernames and passwords for root.

Good thing I faked all my data on my PSN (or SEN or what the hell it's called now) account, so I don't really need to worry if it gets stolen, it only has free stuff downloaded from the store.

Not really. The egohot case was a precedent. It showed that a court found hacking a console wrong. This precedent is why Sony went after graf, it was proof that Sony was right, it was proof that hackers were wrong, and it was proof that Sony could win.

This is the reason many hate egohot. He opened the gates for Sony to be able to sue anyone.

How did they set precedent with graf? He did the same as geohot.
