Bought ps3 off ebay need help identifying CFW
 

Hey guys newbie here,
i just bought a cech -e01 off ebay. guy said it wasnt reading discs so i figured hey easy fix. i popped in a new laser and it worked no prob.. to my amazement when i looked at firmware it was 3.55. my question is what is this folder above the game disc icon that has a star and says "install package files". ive heard of homebrew and minuteman and different stuff like that but never had any experience with any of that stuff..can anyone tell me what it is and how to make the most of it?? thanks for any help!!

I think everyone needs or wants a 3.55 ps3 these days. I actually just do repairs on bluu ray drives and have gotten lucky 4 times with firmware 1.98,3.42, 3.00, and now 3.55. if i understood how to install all the cfw im sure i could make triple my profit instead of just doubling it. id try intalling but im afraid to jack up the system and thus loosing the firmware

ok so from what im reading since i have the install packages files already it means theres already a CFW installed correct? how do i know which CFW i have installed if system info just says 3.55?

you could try the secret menu, Or you could Install 3.55 OFW and then install any other CFW, Its most likely Rogero or Kemew, it is geohot If you cannot play backups.

If it was me and it works fine on the cfw its on now i leave as it is and sell likeu want. U dont know the background of the ps3 and if it been downgrade via hardware flasher and if u dont take the right steps . U would bric kand need a flasher cos u never qaflag/dehased for the new cfw u would install.. it might never been downgraded and the above wont matter... its up to u what u do
