Debug Fake Updates the real future.

Okay Guys,

i want to talk about a thing i am thinking about. many people also got this idea, and i am 100% sure this is the real future of the ps3, not cfw.

the only thing what is missing atm for people with a Debug Console are updates.
atm the newest FW is 4.21 on Debug. there are tools who can increate the ammount of games on the debug hdd. (i have 10 games atm on my hdd)
there are tools who can change the mounted game over prDG without have to remove the hdd from the ps3.

why no dev is working on a solution for fake updates?
i decrypted a eboot from an old game and checked whats the difference, i was able to figure out that the main problem is that the update eboot.bin have a information regarding to the update.pkg.

do you think fake updates are possible? and if yes, why nobody is working on it?

I agree with you that fake updates (or something similar) might be the (a) solution.

However, I disagree with you that nobody is working on it.
Devs like aldostools, andbey0nd, FreePlay and DeanK are all working to make new programs for DEX systems.
I'm pretty sure they thought of some way to incorporate it.
However, they (or others) are unsuccessful as of yet.

The fact that you don't read about it, doesn't mean nobody is working on it.
Same with the remote DEX mounter, nobody was talking about it but suddenly it was there.

I'm expecting that at least someone is working on it but you won't hear about it until it's (nearly) finished.

AStools is working at it (fake updates) according to nicholas...

i thought about this a long time ago, but was told that we would need the source code to make a fake update to a game.

Source code for what? If you have the decrypted eboot, why couldn't you just sign it for NPDRM? (granted, it's not 100% success rate, like back in the GH 3.55 patch days but still).

Obviously we don't have the decrypted eboot, if we did we don't need to fake the update.. But is there not more to the whole: BDEMU needs an update, yet a legit disk doesn't? Has anyone tried burning a backup instead of just via USB?

Warrorar 09-07-2012 05:49 PM

if ASTools would find a way this would be awesome.

to be true, i dislike this cfw 3.55.... i refuse to use a firmware whos so old if there is a 4.21 :-/
i will give this devs there time, i know how hard this is. im pretty sure that they will find a way :-)

And with the increase of isos on the hdd and the remote mounter, this will be the future of us :-)

you would need the source code to the game to create a update to it. you would not have a decrypted eboot. i could be wrong but when i asked that is what @moogie told me.

If i remember correctly retail eboots have some checks that require an original disk in order to play while npdrm ones(updates) don't have those checks.

Mistawes 09-07-2012 06:08 PM

True, noticed a few games that seem to have that check alright. But if we burn to disk, doesn't that negate that side effect?

Just curious, because it'd hardly give that error if it's reading from disk, or would it end up as a signing error because it only expects Fself's to be on there? Gonna see if any of the lads have a BR burner to test it out (I presume I'm wrong and it's already been tried 100 times, but better than nothing).

Well, without going all technical, i will just say that there are some things inside the disk itself that makes a retail game disk different from a burned blu ray disk.
You are free to try, just be sure to use a rewritable disk. ;)
