Bluray drive Logic board matching
Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a ps3 with a bad bluray drive, it has been opened before and more than half the screws are missing from the drive and the case looks like its been through a battle plus the drive sensor is missing to top it all off. Since there's so much changed my concern is if the drives logic board actually goes with the motherboard or not? So my question is, Is there anyway i can test this without buying a working bluray drive? i reconnected all the parts and pushed the laser upwards and it does move back into position and it ejects and accepts disks but that's it...no lights from the laser and the disk doesn't spin. Model is a CECHA01 and the logic board in question is an A3 thanks for the help ahead of time :) |
Mark Webber wrote a nice little breakdown:
If you have an unmarried board but working drive you will get: Disc can be inserted/ejected If a disc is inserted the disc icon will just spin An audio cd will eventually be detected but not able to be played Black screen when trying to launch anything from the XMB Can upgrade/downgrade firmware (it only checks a board is attached, not that it is married up) If you have a dead/dodgy board/cable/drive you will get: No way to load/eject a disc No way to downgrade without a bypass firmware Black screen when trying to launch anything from the XMB If you have a married board, but dead laser you will get: The ability to play/install homebrew Can play anything installed on the HDD providing it does not require a disc to be inserted (discless booting) Can upgrade/downgrade as normal per the guides |

That's right, if you can launch any application from XMB then it's married.
