7200RPM Vs. 5400rpm e3 sata station

Hey guys,

I just received my e3 flasher and I have just one question. I'm planning to dual boot 4.25OFW and 3.55CFW rebug, so I need another hdd. I've been looking around but couldn't find an answer. I'm stuck between three 3.5 hdds.

Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 2 TB 64mb cache(~$110)
Western Digital 2 TB WD Green variable 5400rpm 64mb cache(~$100)
Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB 7200rpm 64mb cache(~$170)

I've read that using a 7200rpm as an internal could cause YLOD because of heat. However, using the e-sata station, it would be treated as internal, but it's outside the PS3. I'm leaning towards the 7200rpm for the increase in speed:)

So would that cause any problems?

In terms of the pricing and decent performance, I would get that
Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 2 TB 64mb cache(~$110).

I would avoid the WD Green series, it actually boost of a variable RPM between 5400 - 7200 by some algorithm which is likely unstable. This means bad.

Ultimately just ensure that the dimensions of the HDDs fits your esata station.
If your afraid of heat issues, I recommend you get a PS3 cooler/fan extension.

Like the above post said WD isn't the best quality brand out of the two also. So I would recommend using the Seagate

Thanks guys. But I wouldn't have to worry about the heat issues right? because the hdd wouldn't be inside the ps3

Yeah but I'd go with the Seagate because of quality

Cannot use >1TB as internal, not even in externalised tray

Out of curiosity, even though a hdd can be used internally but still not in the PS3 you will still have to keep each on them well ventilated or utilize cooling system to prevent any heat issues for example RSOD, YLOD, and GLOD.

@R3QU13M Good airflow is the key of sucess. (So yes, you can add some extra coolers)
