Getting 3.55 CFW on Brand New PS3
 

You see, I am planning to buy a brand new, unopened PS3 120GB Slim Model, but I don't know what firmware those have preset in them when Sony used to make them in the factory.

So, I wanted to ask if any of you could please tell me which firmware the PS3 would come with?

Here is the PS3 that I intend to get in the SKU Model List, The one that is boxed around by the orange marker.

Just update to OFW 3.55. Then install cfw. :)

You know for sure what 120GB model it is an if it has never been taken out of the box and played?

I would say if it is new in box, then it probably has firmware lower than 3.55.

I have owned 3 2101's.

The first one was new and it had 3.21 and could be downgraded to 3.20.

The other two were used and could be downgraded to 3.20.

According to that list even the newest 210x can be downgraded to 3.40 so if you get a truly new in box 210x then the highest firmware it will possibly have is 3.55.

My 2101 is only downgradable to 3.50 you lucky bastard I want real linux

3.15 was the last firmware you could run real linux on and that's only if you have a phat.

3.21 was they didn't completly remove it and we re gained it through a pup with the help of geohot

I did not know that. It worked on slims too?


Edit: Just did some research, apparently geohot never released this 3.21 pup, guess that explains why it was never on the wiki.

wierd, sony stopped to make those models long time ago.. i wonder who is selling you this..
if its really unopened, it will be under 3.55 and you will need to update to 3.55 OFW and you choose what CFW to install..

new ones are updated past 3.55 even if they are packaged.
